  • Evaluation of a Swedish version of the Watts Sexual Function Questionnaire (WSFQ) in persons with heart disease: A pilot study
  • 2010
  • Ingår i: European Journal of Cardiovascular Nursing. - Amsterdam : Elsevier. - 1474-5151 .- 1873-1953. ; 9:3, s. 168-174
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Background: As part of preparation for a Swedish multicentre study, exploring sexual and married life in patients with myocardial infarction and their partners, a Swedish validated instrument was required. Aims:The aim of this pilot study was to evaluate the validity and reliability of a Swedish version of the Watts Sexual Function Questionnaire (WSFQ) among persons with a heart disease. Methods:A convenience sample of 79 persons (47 men and 32 women) living with a heart disease was recruited from the members of the National Association of Heart and Lung Patients. They completed a Swedish version of the WSFQ on two occasions. Results:Two separate factor analyses each revealed a two-factor structure on both occasions: “Sexual appetite” and “Sexual expectations ”with gender-neutral questions and “Sexual sensitiveness” and “Sexual ability” with gender-specific questions. Cronbach's alpha coefficients ranged from 0.48 to 0.86 and test – retest values for all but one question exceeded 0.70.Conclusions:The Swedish version of the WSFQ showed good validity and stability and acceptable internal homogeneity. Extended evaluations of the questionnaire are recommended.

  • Validity and reliability of a Swedish version of the Relationship Assessment Scale (RAS) : a pilot study
  • 2010
  • Ingår i: Canadian journal of cardiovascular nursing. - Ottawa : Canadian Council of Cardiovascular Nurses. - 0843-6096. ; 20:1, s. 16-21
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • BACKGROUND: There is a need for a short and easily administered scale, in the Swedish language, for assessing partner relationships in the health care of persons with cardiac disease. PURPOSE: To establish the reliability and validity of the Swedish version of the Relationship Assessment Scale (RAS). DESIGN: The present pilot study has a methodological design. FINDINGS: Content validity has been tested for relevance, clarity and readability. The scale was tested for construct validity with explorative factor analysis. The reliability was tested by internal consistency and test-retest analysis. The result showed a two-factor solution, which does not correspond to the original proposed one-factor solution. The factor analyses revealed two quite distinct factors of RAS, labelled "Relationship built on expectations and satisfaction of needs" and "Relationship built on love and devotion". CONCLUSIONS: The scale has satisfactory psychometric properties in terms of content validity, construct validity, homogeneity and stability in a population of persons with cardiac disease. Wider evaluations of the RAS for other populations and settings are recommended.

  • Home sweet home? : Professionals' understanding of ‘home’ within residential care for unaccompanied youths in Sweden
  • 2016
  • Ingår i: Child & Family Social Work. - : Wiley-Blackwell. - 1356-7500 .- 1365-2206. ; 21:4, s. 591-599
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • The number of unaccompanied minors arriving in Sweden continues to rise. The majority are placed in residential care units. This qualitative study aims to increase the understanding given by the professionals to the concept of home' within the framework of residential care for unaccompanied young people. Data are based on participatory observations at two residential care units, followed up by individual interviews with staff. The findings confirm that the concept of home has a complex meaning involving both objective aspects such as physical buildings, and more subjective components that can be seen as state of mind. The staff's desire to offer an ordinary home' fails because of the surveillance, their dominant positions and especially due to the legal restrictions that were not initially meant for this target group. Unaccompanied young people have to be considered based on their own specific needs in order to make it possible for society to offer the most suitable care.

  • “In Sweden work is more important than the culture, actually!” : the care leaving process for unaccompanied youths from the perspective of social workers
  • 2015
  • Ingår i: Transnational Social Review. - : Taylor & Francis. - 2193-1674 .- 2196-145X. ; 5:3, s. 241-257
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • In 2014 about 7000 unaccompanied minors applied for asylum in Sweden and a great part of them were allowed to stay. Thus Sweden is one of the countries receiving the highest number of unaccompanied children in Europe. Previous research has shown that individuals with out-of-home care experiences belong to a vulnerable group. Besides that, young people with a migrant background sometimes experienced exclusion and discrimination. This study aims to explore social workers’ understanding of the unaccompanied youths’ minority backgrounds in relation to the process of leaving care. With a qualitative approach, data have been collected through focus groups at two residential care units. Within this kind of human service organizations (HSO), the staff struggle with meeting the perceived needs of the youths based on their minority background. Alongside, they are trying to teach what they consider as being good Swedish practices claimed to be necessary when facing life outside care. A transnational perspective prevents an understanding of the unaccompanied youths’ context as static, but rather promotes a way of relating to the youths in past and present times in order to be prepared for the future.

  • Chinese nurses´ethical concerns in a neurological ward
  • 2007
  • Ingår i: Nursing Ethics. - : SAGE Publications. - 0969-7330 .- 1477-0989. ; 14:6, s. 810-824
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Our aim was to describe Chinese nurses' experiences of workplace distress and ethical dilemmas on a neurological ward. Qualitative interviews were performed with 20 nurses. On using latent content analysis, themes emerged in four content areas: ethical dilemmas, workplace distress, quality of nursing and managing distress. The ethical dilemmas were: (1) conflicting views on optimal treatment and nursing; (2) treatment choice meeting with financial constraints; and (3) misalignment of nursing responsibilities, competence and available resources. The patients' relatives lacked respect for the nurses' skills. Other dilemmas could be traced to the transition from a planned to a market economy, resulting in an excessive workload and treatment withdrawal for financial reasons. Lack of resources was perceived as an obstacle to proper patient care in addition to hospital organization, decreasing the quality of nursing, and increasing moral and workplace distress. The nurses managed mainly by striving for competence, which gave them hope for the future.
