- Solid waste management is a challenge for the cities' authorities in developing countries mainly due to the increasing generation of waste, the burden posed on the municipal budget as a result of the high costs associated to its management, the lack of understanding over a diversity of factors that affect the different stages of waste management and linkages necessary to enable the entire handling system functioning. An analysis of literature on the work done and reported mainly in publications from 2005 to 2011, related to waste management in developing countries, showed that few articles give quantitative information. The analysis was conducted in two of the major scientific journals, Waste Management Journal and Waste Management and Research. The objective of this research was to determine the stakeholders' action/behavior that have a role in the waste management process and to analyze influential factors on the system, in more than thirty urban areas in 22 developing countries in 4 continents. A combination of methods was used in this study in order to assess the stakeholders and the factors influencing the performance of waste management in the cities. Data was collected from scientific literature, existing data bases, observations made during visits to urban areas, structured interviews with relevant professionals, exercises provided to participants in workshops and a questionnaire applied to stakeholders. Descriptive and inferential statistic methods were used to draw conclusions. The outcomes of the research are a comprehensive list of stakeholders that are relevant in the waste management systems and a set of factors that reveal the most important causes for the systems' failure. The information provided is very useful when planning, changing or implementing waste management systems in cities.

- A partir del año 2011, Cuba emprendió la actualización de su modelo económico, lo cual ha estado signado en conformar un nuevo escenario para el desempeño de las entidades económicas. La investigación que se presenta tiene el objetivo de identificar los elementos de la organización que son relevantes en la determinación del desempeño de las entidades cubanas en el escenario económico y social actual. Se han identificado 42 elementos relevantes de la organización, cuyo desarrollo es condición para que las mismas obtengan buenos desempeños en el escenario que se conforma con las transformaciones actuales y futuras del modelo económico. Se requiere que cada entidad, de acuerdo con sus características, emprenda un desarrollo al menos en los 42 elementos relevantes puestos de manifiesto en el presente estudio.

- Case studies and modeling of logistics systems are the basis for the formulation of the content and structure of a reference model for the organization and management of Value Networks as a higher stage of integrated development of supply chains. The definition of a mathematical model for the balance of the Value Network can reveal the characteristics and principles of organization and management of Value Networks.The instrument obtained enables supply chains to assess their level of development and identify the characteristics that should be developed to reach the concept of Value Network, which is based on knowledge development and environmental integration as supports of the same and its competitive position in the global market.Proper integration into the model of environmental factors ensures that Value Networks are inserted into the objectives of promoting sustainable development. The current concept of logistics flow is extended to incorporate within it the exchange of energy, resources and impacts to the environment.The research methods used were based on a combination of study and experimentation of cases and the conceptual and mathematical modeling of systems.

- This systematic literature review sought to identify methodologies and technical strategies emphasising healthcare services and outcomes when incorporating the concept of equity into Clinical Practice Guidelines (CPG). 940 references were identified, of which 20 fulfilling the inclusion criteria were selected. While no reports were found describing or evaluating an explicit methodology for incorporating considerations of equity into CPG, some studies revealed related strategies or processes, summarised as follows: 1. Target population involvement during all phases of designing, implementing and evaluating CPG; 2. "Cultural capacity" seen as being necessary in CPGs' "cultural translation" for interventions to have less disparity regarding their application and results; 3. Considering psycho-social factors which could affect implementing CPG, and; 4. Considering system inequities so that any health intervention would also confront risks and obstacles to health care due to socioeconomic status. It was concluded that CPGs could be a potential route for promoting more equitable healthcare effects by standardising health interventions if, by incorporating some of the processes described above, they actively seek to avoid unjust differences in access to and/or the quality of the interventions that they prescribe.

- La difusión residencial ha sido uno de los fenómenos característicos de las últimas décadas en la región metropolitana de Madrid. A lo largo de los años los procesos de desconcentración poblacional han llegado a territorios cada vez más alejados del centro urbano de la capital, sobrepasando incluso los límites administrativos de la Comunidad de Madrid. El área seleccionada como objeto de estudio está representada por un conjunto de núcleos urbanos situados en una franja de territorio, perteneciente a la comarca de la Sagra madrileña, comprendida entre la autovía A-42 y la autopista AP-41 que comunican Madrid con Toledo. Dentro de este conjunto, se ha identificado Cubas de la Sagra como municipio representativo. La etapa de mayor expansión de estos pueblos se puede ceñir a las últimas dos décadas, caracterizadas por la construcción de una serie de asentamientos de viviendas unifamiliares perimetrales a los antiguos cascos de origen rural, con una población de procedencia variable, acomunada generalmente por un nivel de renta medio o medio-bajo. La matriz rural aparece como un sustrato sobre el cual se han asentado muchos de los desarrollos residenciales edificados hasta la década de los noventa, siguiendo el trazado de los antiguos caminos o de la parcelación rústica preexistente.
