  • Branch cross-correlation in presence of spatially selective interference expressed in terms of the spherical vector wave expansion of the electromagnetic field
  • 2008
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • In this paper we present an analysis of the cross-correlation coe±cient between signals at two antennabranches (ports) in the presence of spatially selective interference and additive white gaussian noise. Morespeci¯cally, we look at a §45± slanted polarization diversity arrangement, which is rotated around the axisperpendicular to the plane containing the antennas. Results are provided as a function of the rotation angle. The analysis is based on the spherical vector wave multi-pole expansion of both the ¯eld impinging on theantennas and the antenna radiation properties.

  • On the mean effective gain expressed in terms of the spherical vector wave expansion of the electromagnetic field
  • 2008
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • The mode expansion o®ers a general framework for the analysis of the interaction between antennas andpropagation channels. In this paper, the Mean E®ective Gain (MEG) of an antenna is expressed in termsof the spherical vector wave expansion of the electromagnetic ¯eld. An explicit expression of the MEG isprovided as a function of the normalized average power of modes excited in the propagation channel andthe correlation between the channel modes due to the polarization and spatial selectivity of plane wavesimpinging at the antenna.

  • Sum rules and constraints on passive systems with applications in electromagnetics
  • 2010
  • Ingår i: [Host publication title missing]. ; , s. 33-36
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • A passive system is one that cannot produce energy, a property that naturally poses constraints on the system. In this paper there is a review of some results on linear, time translational invariant, continuous, causal and passive systems, where it turns out that Herglotz functions are related to the Fourier transform of the impulse response of such systems. Some well known facts of this function class is considered, and a set of integral identities and an outline of the proof of these are presented. The identities may be used to derive sum rules and constraints on various physical systems. The theory is illuminated with two examples from electromagnetics: the first revisits Fano’s matching equations, while the latter makes a link to the Kramers-Kronig relations and discusses physical limitations on metamaterials.

  • Summation rules and physical bounds for partial wave scattering in electromagnetics
  • 2009
  • Ingår i: [Host publication title missing]. ; , s. 206-207
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • A general approach to derive summation rules in electromagnetics using Herglotz functions is presented in this paper. This approach is then used to obtain summation rules and bounds on partial wave scattering, which are illustrated numerically by the scattering of a Drude sphere.

  • The environmental sub-model of the Swedish Winter Model : updated algorithms for the description of salt damage to roadside environment
  • 2010
  • Ingår i: Sustainable winter service for road users. - Paris : La Défense.
  • Konferensbidrag (övrigt vetenskapligt/konstnärligt)abstract
    • Modeling the impact of the use of chemical anti-/deicing on the roadside environment requires knowledge of the roadside exposure to salt, the vulnerability or dose-response relationship of the modeled environmental subjects and, preferably, the “cost” of the following impacts. The results presented in this paper are the first tentative test runs of the environmental sub-model of the Swedish Winter model. The environmental cost will in this case study be the cost for vegetation damage larger than a chosen accepted level of damage, and a cost for groundwater protection installations. The total environmental cost in this small case study will roughly be between 1.5 and 2.5 MSEK.

  • Winter model : roadside salt exposure under different weather conditions
  • 2008
  • Ingår i: Surface transportation weather and snow removal and ice control technology. - Washington DC : Transportation Research Board, TRB. ; , s. 159-170
  • Konferensbidrag (övrigt vetenskapligt/konstnärligt)abstract
    • The environmental model is a submodel in the Swedish winter maintenance management system, the Winter Model. The Winter Model will make it possible to assess the most important effects and their monetary value of changes in winter maintenance strategies and operations in Sweden. The effects are assessed for road users, road administrators, and the environment. Modeling the impact of the use of chemical anti- and deicing on roadside environment requires knowledge of the roadside exposure to salt, the vulnerability or dose-response relationship of the modeled environmental subjects and, preferably, the “cost” of the following impacts. In this paper, research results from some recent field studies are used to illustrate how the transport mechanisms responsible for the roadside exposure to deicing salt is working under different weather conditions. In order to improve the current model describing the roadside exposure to salt for even better prediction, the occurrence of plowing actions is also suggested to be incorporated into the model. Further it is suggested that, if also the presumably small depositions of dry salt aerosol particles on larger distance are to be described, the transport mechanism of dry salt crystals, breaking up into small airborne fragments and transported by the wind is also to be incorporated into the model describing the roadside exposure to deicing salt. The results in this paper are beeing incorporated into the Swedish Winter Model.
