  • Equidad en el desarrollo de guias de practica clinica : [The concept of equity when developing clinical practice guidelines]
  • 2011
  • In: Revista de Salud Pública. - 0124-0064. ; 13:2, s. 327-38
  • Journal article (peer-reviewed)abstract
    • This systematic literature review sought to identify methodologies and technical strategies emphasising healthcare services and outcomes when incorporating the concept of equity into Clinical Practice Guidelines (CPG). 940 references were identified, of which 20 fulfilling the inclusion criteria were selected. While no reports were found describing or evaluating an explicit methodology for incorporating considerations of equity into CPG, some studies revealed related strategies or processes, summarised as follows: 1. Target population involvement during all phases of designing, implementing and evaluating CPG; 2. "Cultural capacity" seen as being necessary in CPGs' "cultural translation" for interventions to have less disparity regarding their application and results; 3. Considering psycho-social factors which could affect implementing CPG, and; 4. Considering system inequities so that any health intervention would also confront risks and obstacles to health care due to socioeconomic status. It was concluded that CPGs could be a potential route for promoting more equitable healthcare effects by standardising health interventions if, by incorporating some of the processes described above, they actively seek to avoid unjust differences in access to and/or the quality of the interventions that they prescribe.

  • Aproximación, reducción, materialización : Algunas reflexiones acerca de la insuficiencia de la representación a partir del trabajo de Peter Zumthor
  • 2010
  • In: 13 Congreso Internacional de Expresión Gráfica Arquitectónica - Valencia, 2010. - Valencia : Editorial de la Universitat Politècnica de València (UPV). - 9788483635490 ; , s. 25-32
  • Conference paper (peer-reviewed)abstract
    • While the ‘globalized’ architectural discipline continuous its immersion in a trend that privileges quantitative and mediated experiences, Peter Zumthor’s small office/workshop in Haldenstein - a small village in the swiss Graubünden – works by slowly developing each assignment to the last detail, always privileging the quality of the final result as the maximum value and top priority. Regardless of the rash global competition to attract the media, Zumthor carefully chooses his clients, does not allow the re-printing of his own monograph and proves himself very reluctant at the time of accepting interviews. Often, he affords certain moments to take some distance and reflect critically about his own creative activity and about the essence of architecture, what has led to a number of texts, concepts and categories that are extremely interesting from the point of view of representation. The text that follows explores and revisits some of those ideas and categories through a reading and a translation of some of his texts that tries to relate them to his work. More particularly, the article “Partituren und Bilder. Architektonische Arbeiten aus dem Atelier Peter Zumthor. 1985-1988” that was part of an exhibition held with the same name at the Architekturgalerie in Lucern, only available in German, has been translated as well as another text and interview held around the house Luzi.

  • Habitar juntos : sobre el papel de la arquitectura en la producción de espacios colectivos habitables
  • 2011
  • In: Proyecto, Progreso, Arquitectura. - Sevilla : Secretariado de Publicaciones. Universidad de Sevilla.. - 2171-6897 .- 2173-1616. ; 2011:5, s. 92-107
  • Journal article (peer-reviewed)abstract
    • This paper reflects on the need for another approach to the concept of habitability; for collective solutions and proposals at all scales, transversally and simultaneously, from the room to the city, restoring the value of the collective as an alternative to prevailing fragmentation and individualism. Faced with those practices that are either entertained in the incessant production of new forms, or are aligned with the neoliberal system in the task of producing and absorbing surplus, at the expense of creative destruction of the urban space and the territory, there is an urgent need for other ways to firmly and uncompromisingly approach the task of planning coexistence. It is imperative to move beyond the formal and typological, incorporating not only the well-known rhetoric of adaptation, dissociation and other contemporary rituals of the private, but also the critical planning of those common, collective, public and intermediate spaces that promote sociability and co-existence, and make it possible to share spaces, resources and experiences.

  • The process of incorporating a user perspective to the development of clinical practice guidelines : literature reviewing
  • 2011
  • In: Revista Gerencia y Políticas de Salud. - : Pontificia Universidad Javeriana. - 1657-7027. ; 10:21, s. 176-195
  • Journal article (peer-reviewed)abstract
    • In order to identify methodologies for effective identification and incorporation of the user considerations and perspective to the development of clinical practice guidelines, a systematic review of the literature was conducted. A total of 729 articles were identified from the initial search of these, 18 met the criteria and were included in the review. The items were valued according to methodological quality and extracted relevant information from them. No methodological items were found that described or evaluated a specific methodology that incorporates considerations of the patients in the development of GPC. The techniques used for these processes were the formal ones such as Delphi, focus groups, stakeholder analysis, surveys, workshops and preference scales. The reported experiences agree on the need to link patients during the stages of prioritization and approval of the recommendations.

  • Exogamia matrimonial de los inmigrantes latinoamericanos con españoles : integración o estrategia migratoria
  • 2011
  • In: Revista Latinoamericana de Población. - Rio de Janeiro : Asociación Latinoamericana de Población (ALAP). - 2175-8581. ; 5:8, s. 33-62
  • Journal article (peer-reviewed)abstract
    • From the standpoint of assimilation theory, mixed marriages have traditionally been considered as the final stage of the integration process for the immigrants into the host society. From this perspective, we have made use of the recent National Immigrant Survey (2007) in Spain to analyze mixed marriages affecting Latin American immigrants and native Spaniards. Bivariate and multivariate approaches are used to analyze the contexts of these types of marriage, controlling for indicators such as sex, education, current citizenship, year of arrival, and the time between marriage and migration. The results reveal a fascinating and complex portrait of a type of marriage behavior that can vary significantly by country of origin.

  • Factores estructurales de la exogamia matrimonial de los inmigrantes en España y Portugal
  • 2010
  • In: Revista de Demografía Histórica. - 1696-702X. ; 28:2, s. 165-194
  • Journal article (peer-reviewed)abstract
    • This article studies the marriage pattern of immigrants in the south of Europe using data of vital register from 2001 to 2008.The aim of this research is to study how immigrant population integrates in Spain and Portugal analyzing intermarriage with native people. The high incidence of intermarriage is considered to be the final step of the immigrant assimilation into the host society. This is the reason for which it is used as a perfectly suitable indicator of the level of assimilation. We expect that frequency of intermarriage will be higher among immigrants from countries linked to the receiving society through a strong historical and cultural bond. Only marriage couples are been included.
