- A problem in common of many complex software systems embedded in industrialproducts is the absence of analyzability as formal models of the systembehavior does not exist. When performing maintenance of such systems it ishard to predict how changes will impact specific system properties related totiming and resource utilization and there is therefore a significant risk of runninginto problems with unexpected side-effects of the changes made, whichincreases development time required and costs.In this paper we present the ART Framework, a set of methods and toolsthat enable behavior impact analysis for existing industrial real-time systems.The ART Framework enables developers of complex software systems to identifyproblematic side-effects of a proposed design before vast resources havebeen invested in implementation and testing. This reduces the risk of expensiveand time-consuming problems discovered late in a development projectand also reduces the risk releasing software containing latent critical errors.

Delaktighet och utveckling : En uppföljning av första året med DU-projektet vid Vuxenförvaltningen i Eskilstuna

- DU-projektet aktualiserar en grundläggande problematik vid förändringsarbete. Hur kan man utveckla en metod för förändringsarbete som är så förankrad i organisationen att den vinner gehör bland de anställda och motiverar dem att vara drivande i förändringen?I rapporten diskuteras också begreppet delaktighet. Hur kan man i en organisation veta att man tillskriver begreppet samma betydelse och hur kan man veta att det är samma form av delaktighet som eftersträvas i organisationen? I rapporten behandlas även relationen mellan delaktighet, lärande och hälsa. Projektet är ett exempel på förändringsarbete med syfte att skapa förutsättningar för förändring och utveckling i vård och omsorg, med delaktighet för de anställda som en central utgångspunkt. En avsikt är att verksamheten och personalens förhållningssätt ska präglas av tydlighet, öppenhet samt ha ett värde för brukarna. En annan ambition är att öka de anställdas välbefinnande och hälsa.DU-projektet (Delaktighet och Utveckling) syftar till att skapa förutsättningar för delaktighet bland de anställda för att därigenom utveckla såväl verksamheten som de anställda. Målgrupp är samtliga medarbetare, det vill säga förvaltningsledning, enhetschefer och övrig personal. DU-projektet har genomförts vid Vuxenförvaltningen i Eskilstuna kommun. Uppdragsgivare har varit Eskilstuna kommun.

- The patient Botvid´s way to right care. The planning process of an inter-organizational care pathway project.A general problem in an elderly patient’s care – and rehabilitation process, which involves different care providers, is that there is no one single staff that is responsible for the whole “production process” i.e. from diagnosis to completed treatment. All too often care providers focus on their own part of the process with insufficient communication with other providers, resulting in low quality of care. Poor co-operation also leads to increased demand for check-ups, unproductive waiting time, duplication of work and other inefficiencies. A solution to these co-ordination problems can be to introduce process orientation (integrated care pathways). A process view requires the concerned staff to look at their own work with other eyes. The process view implies that they need to change focus to what is best from the patient’s point of view.Experiences from earlier reforms, that were centrally initiated and managed, show that the concerned staff (doctors, nurses etc.) had too little influence during the planning and implementation phases. Several official reports therefore call attention to the need for broad participation from all of the different staff categories in organizational development.In this thesis a qualitative case study of the planning process of an inter-organizational project between primary care, hospital treatment and municipality care is presented. The aim of the project was to develop an organization that could support a process view among the care providers. The focus of the thesis is on how the project management acted to shape the necessary conditions for a process view to enable the professional staff to participate, and on the role that the change strategy played in this connection.The results show that the professional staff had an active role in the management of the project. The initiator was a doctor, who managed the project team of 50 care staff together with a project leader. This team had a series of meetings and conferences during ten months. By exchanging ideas and experiences they found solutions to the operative problems that were the starting points for the project. They developed an action plan in consensus, with prioritized activities, which is now to be implemented.

Predicting Health Behaviour – Population-Based Studies of Knowledge and Behaviour Related to Cardiovascular Diseases

- The overall aim was to study factors that affect behaviour related to CVD (cardiovascular diseases). Study I tested whether gender, education and so-cioeconomic status correlated to knowledge about risk factors, and Study II studied knowledge and risk behaviour from a national perspective (Sweden versus Poland). Furthermore, Study III examined whether obese people dif-fered from people of normal weight regarding knowledge about risk factors, and Study IV examined whether risk behaviour is affected by personal ex-perience of illness and family history of CVD. The studies are population-based with cross-sectional design. Data were obtained by questionnaires and by screening results of risk factors related to CVD. The studies were carried out among 50-year old men and women in Västmanland, Sweden (n=1011) and in Wroclaw, Poland (n=1043).The results show that women are more knowledgeable than men about the risk factors for CVD, and that low education is associated with insufficient knowledge about CVD (Study I). The discrepancy between knowledge and behaviour was greater among the Poles than it was among the Swedes (Study II). Obese individuals did not differ significantly from individuals with a normal weight regarding knowledge of cardiovascular risk factors when education was controlled for (Study III). Individuals with a personal experience of illness may be more inclined to change smoking behaviour than the average person (Study IV).In conclusion, knowledge about risk factors for CVD varies with education, gender and, to a certain degree, nationality. However, knowledge does not only consist of the conditions of behaviour change. The results in the thesis substantiate theories suggesting that change in risk behaviour is a process over time. Predictors of risk behaviours on the individual level as well as national level are of importance, and needs to be considered in the every day practice of health care professionals.

- The phase-noise theory and design of a differential CMOS LC-tank VCO with double switch pair is presented. A formula for the minimum achievable phase noise in the 1/f2 region is derived. The 2.15 to 2.35GHz 0.3μm CMOS VCO has a phase noise of -143.9dBc/Hz at 3MHz offset and draws 4mA from a 2.5V supply.

Estetiska aktiviteter som pedagogiskt redskap : Rapport från ett pågående interkulturellt skolutvecklingsprojekt

- Våren 2003 inleddes ett utvecklingsarbete i samarbete mellan forskare vid Mälardalens högskola och fyra skolor i Eskilstuna kommun. Genom införandet av en estetikbaserad pedagogik ville man stimulera en personlighets- och kompetensutveckling bland eleverna. Skolutvecklingsprojektet består av två delar, en utvecklingsdel och en forskningsdel. Utvecklingsdelen handlar om en nära samverkan mellan forskare och lärarei syfte att ge stöd och stimulans till användning av estetiska aktiviteter i skolarbetet. Forskningsdelen handlar om att undersöka effekterna av de estetiska aktiviteterna avseende elevernas kompetensutveckling och verksamhetens didaktiska förutsättningar. I rapporten presenteras utvecklingsarbetets teoretiska grund, som vilar på den radikala estitiken, samt en beskrivning av utvecklingsarbetets förlopp och betydelse sett ur medverkande lärares och skolledares perspektiv. Författaren till rapporten, Ilona Antal-Lundström, är fil.dr. och universitetslektor i pedagogik vid Mälardalens högskola. Hennes forskning handlar om estetik i ett pedagogiskt perspektiv, med fokus på de estetiska aktiviteternas roll i personlighetsutvecklingen.

Factory-in-a-Box : an Enabler for Flexibility in Manufacturing Systems

- AT PRESENT, many markets are characterized by a fast pace of change, as well as a high internationally enlarged competition. Since the conception of Mass Customization emerged in the late 1980´s, many companies within the manufacturing industry have been striving to fulfill this vision by increasing the flexibility within their manufacturing system. However, although there are many manufacturing theories that describe theoretical solutions to mass customization, but there is still a lack of practical enablers that can realize the conception.In January 2005, the Swedish Foundation for Strategic Research started the project Factory-in-a-Box. There, the key characteristic is to realize is the concept of modular production units that are flexible, mobile and quick to ramp-up. This licentiate thesis is a part of the Factory-in-a-Box project, and its objective is to investigate if and how the Factory-in-a-box concept is an enabler to realize flexibility in manufacturing systems.The outcome of this research work indicates that the Factory-in-a-Box concept is a plausible solution that goes in line with previous research and future challenges within the manufacturing industry. The Factory-in-a-Box concept offers possibilities for a more flexible and responsive manufacturing system, which also unwrap new business possibilities, increased automation, and entering new markets. To succeed in implementing the Factory-in-a-Box concept in a manufacturing system some key generic requirements have been identified.The research project concludes that mobile manufacturing systems in general and the Factory-in-a-Box concept in particular offer new possibilities to the manufacturing industry. Also, the concept is not limited to the manufacturing industry, there are a wide range of applications where the concept could be useful, for example within the construction industry.
