- The Hodell collection at the National Library of Sweden as an artistic project. By Johan Gardfors. In this essay, I examine archival material at the National Library of Sweden relating to the Swedish poet, artist and playwright Åke Hodell (1919–2000). The Hodell collection consists of a wide range of material, including manuscripts, letters, photographs, press cuttings and autobiographical notes. Given Hodell’s significance in the field of experimental literature and text-sound compositions of the 1960s, the collection is an informative source for a study of the concretist movement or the Nordic neo-avant-garde. However, I want to emphasize that the material should also be understood as an archival work of art, which can be described through the notions of montage, collection and conceptual uses of the document. Just as Hodell’s collage work Självbiografi (“Autobiography”), from 1967, situates the subject in a complex intertextual weave, his archive constitutes a second, institutionalized and more comprehensive autobiographical montage. Both illustrate how the ego is always given for itself in context, and the act of collecting and editing personal documents is a means of relating to this fact. In these respects, Hodell’s archive can be related to the more well known archive of Walter Benjamin, just as it should be understood in relation to the tradition of the avant-garde, with its uses of the ready-made and its destabilization of the categories of life and art. Hodell’s collection and its artistic context show how the archive medium requires a double vision, through which it can be seen as a collection of traces and information, but also as a work that should be understood through its processuality and its constellations of discrete, yet assembled material.

- ’’The child as an optics towards the world. Ann Jäderlund’s poems for children in relation to her poems for adults.’’ In the discussion of the renowned Swedish poet Ann Jäderlund (b. 1955), her two illustrated books of poetry for children have been widely neglected. In this essay, it is argued that these two books, Ivan’s book (Ivans bok, 1987) and Iris’s book (Iris bok, 2002), have a bearing on her poems for adults, and that they should be closely examined by anyone who seeks to understand the poetic practice of Ann Jäderlund. Here, the poetry collection Calendar red. Living of ice (Kalender röd. Levande av is, 2000) is tentatively read in relation to Iris’s book, which was published two years after the former. The essay draws special attention to the literary debut of Ann Jäderlund, Streamer City (Vimpelstaden, 1985), which is a minimalistic and language-reflective poetry collection for adults, published two years before the author’s first children’s book. In Streamer City the subject imitates the perception of a small child, striving to renew or liquify the given concepts, and to create a voice of her own. This perspective is central in Ivan’s book and Iris’s book as well, but from a child’s actual point of view, where the objects are not yet caught in concepts. Here, we analyse poems from the four mentioned poetry collections, focusing on how the subjects describe the world in relation to the normative connection between objects and concepts. We reveal how the poet uses the same images and a similar linguistic theme in these works, especially in Streamer City and Ivan’s book, which creates an interesting bridge between the two poetry collections. We advocate an open perspective concerning target groups, and note how the child’s perspective can be regarded as an optics, through wich we may bring our formation of concepts to light.

- Vad är minnet, med vilka modeller kan vi göra det fattbart, och vilka är möjligheterna att med minnet återskapa det som glömts bort eller på annat sätt gått förlorat? Frågan om minnet och det att minnas har sedan urminnes tider intresserat poeter, filosofer och forskare, och att ämnet bibehållit sin popularitet är egentligen inte så konstigt. Minnets mysterier rör helt enkelt vid flera av de mest grundläggande aspekterna av det mänskliga varat - ett faktum som författare i alla tider varit väl medvetna om. I denna volym - resultatet av ett symposium i Lund den 26 april 2013 - finner vi fyra artiklar som på var sitt sätt försöker belysa minnets och litteraturens beröringspunkter. Författarna tar ett brett grepp om frågan och rör sig från Västerlandets arketypiska minnesfunktioner till romantikens särskilda sätt att tänka om det förflutna; från Sigmund Freuds metaforer till konkretisten Åke Hodells arkiv i Stockholm. Texterna visar också på den teoretiska bredden i det litteraturvetenskapliga studier av minnet, och kan härigenom tjäna som en koncis introduktion till fältet.
