  • On the physiological location of otoacoustic emissions
  • 2001
  • Annan publikation (övrigt vetenskapligt/konstnärligt)abstract
    • During recent years, much attention has been paid otoacoustic emissions in the clinical audiological practice. The received view locates their origin in the cochlea, more precisely in the outer hair cells. It is, however, still uncertain if there is an interaction between the ears regarding otoacoustic emissions. Earlier findings suggest an interaction at the level of the olivocochlear bundle. The aim of this pilot study was to find out if there is any interaction between the two cochleae in the case of otoacoustic emissions. Five subjects with normal hearing participated. Recordings were made of spontaneous otoacoustic emissions during the presentation of contralateral stimuli at three different frequencies (500, 1000 and 2000 Hz). In general, contralateral stimulation did not provoke otoacoustic emissions. It was concluded that otoacoustic emissions could be part of the fine-tuning mechanism in the cochlea. The frequency resolution, e.g. for speech, depends on very fast modulation of the incoming signal. Due to the neural distance, this modulation would lag behind, if otoacoustic emissions in one ear would effect the opposite one.

  • Classical Rorschach
  • 2004
  • Ingår i: Internet.
  • Annan publikation (övrigt vetenskapligt/konstnärligt)abstract
    • These web pages are devoted to the presentation and promotion of the Rorschach method, concentrating on the way it has been practiced within the classical European tradition - from Hermann Rorschach himself in 1921, via Ewald Bohm in the 1950's, 1960's and 1970's, and to the contemporary workers in the Rorschach-Bohm tradition. You can here find basic information about Hermann Rorschach, about the different Rorschach traditions and the essential differences between them, and about the current scientific debate about the Rorschach test. There are also some links to other Web pages devoted to the Rorschach method. The information on these pages has been carefully selected so that it can be made publicly available without interferring with the clinical and scientific use of the Rorschach test. Hence no specific information about the test procedure, about response categories and so on has been included, and of course no pictures of the Rorschach cards are shown.

  • Simulation of cardiovascular physiology and pathology with CorVascSim : A PC software for advanced education and research
  • 2004
  • Annan publikation (övrigt vetenskapligt/konstnärligt)abstract
    • Background and Goal: The rapid development of computer technology makes simulation of cardiovascular physiology and pathology possible. The current work presents a scientifically based cardiovascular model, with a self-explanatory interface. Material and Methods: An electrical analogue of the cardiovascular system including resistances, capacitances and inductances was constructed. The contractile function of the cardiac atria and ventricles are represented by time-varying elastances. Valvular function, pericardial volume, ventricular interaction and intrathoracic pressure are represented by constants and functions, which can interact. Pressures, flows and volumes are recalculated every millisecond and presented on-line as numerical and high-resolution graphics. Results and Discussion: The validity of the simulation models is based on the references (1-4). The software makes it possible to illustrate a great diversity of circulatory pathological findings including systolic and diastolic heart failure, valve diseases, pericardial effusion, arteriosclerosis and effects of changes in intrathoracic pressure. The model is being used to educate doctors and nurses in cardiac surgery, cardiac anaesthesia, and cardiology, but its pedagogical value remains to be validated. Conclusion: Simulation of cardiac physiology and pathology provides a new way to study the heart. Results from simulations can be used in education as well as in interpretation of clinical invasive monitoring, echocardiography and experimental research.

  • Dysphonia
  • 2005
  • Annan publikation (övrigt vetenskapligt/konstnärligt)abstract
    • Dysphonia is a program about impaired voice quality or hoarseness (i.e. dysphonia) mainly due to organic diseases of the larynx. The program aims to facilitate student oriented learning regarding the management of dysphonic patients. The targeted use is for training of undergraduate medical and speech pathology students, postgraduate residents under continuous medical education in the Ear,Nose, and Throat (ent) discipline, and also others interested in ailments of the larynx or voice. The design of the program is such that no more than a basic knowledge of medicine in general, about anatomy and physiology of the larynx and about function of the voice is required. The program aims to facilitate learning of the management of in the first hand organic voice disorders. There are two download options. Use Dysphonia_ISO if you are using Windows 8 or later versions. If you are using Windows 7 or earlier, download Dysphonia_zip and unzip the archive to access the program.
