  • Neuroradiologi
  • 2009

  • The Value of Contrast Administration in the MRI Evaluation of Scoliosis in Pediatric Population.
  • 2008
  • Ingår i: The Neuroradiology Journal. ; 21:6, s. 844-847
  • Tidskriftsartikel (populärvet., debatt m.m.)abstract
    • The aim of this study was to analyze the added utility of contrast administration for spine MRI in children with scoliosis. A retrospective review of 663 consecutive contrast-enhanced spine MRI performed in 319 patients as part of the work up of scoliosis in children 2-18 years with clinically suspected or known scoliosis over a seven year period. Those patients with known tumors (13 patients) being evaluated for scoliosis were excluded from the study. In 306 patients with scoliosis and no history of tumor pathologic contrast enhancement was seen in seven (2%) patients. Lack of enhancement helped to characterize benign lesions in 31 (10%) of the patients. Although MRI is often recommended to exclude intraspinal pathology in pediatric patients with scoliosis, the need for contrast enhanced imaging is very limited and contrast medium should not be administered unless questionable pathology is detected on noncontrast MR spine imaging.

  • An “Effective functional subunit size” model for the dose response of rat spinal cord paralysis
  • 2007
  • Ingår i: 13th International Congress of Radiation Research, San Fransisco, USA, July 8-12, 2007.
  • Konferensbidrag (populärvet., debatt m.m.)abstract
    • Background: Radiobiological models for normal tissue complication probability (NTCP) are more and more commonly used in order to estimate the clinical outcome of radiation therapy. A normal tissue complication probability model to be considered a good and reliable one should fulfill the following two requirements: (a) it should predict the sigmoid shape of the dose-response curve as well as possible and (b) it should duly handle the volume effect. In the work from 2005 (IJROBP 61(3):892-900, 2005) P. van Luijk et al. suggest that none of the existing NTCP models is able to describe the volume effects present in the rat spinal cord during irradiation with small proton beams and they indicate the need for developing such new models. Methods: We have used the experimental data from H. Bijl et al. (IJROBP 52(1):205-211, 2002) to try explaining the change in the fifty percent effective dose (ED50) for different field sizes. We initiated this study to evaluate whether the induction of white matter necrosis in rat spinal cord after irradiation with small proton beams could be explained independent of used NTCP model. We therefore introduced a new concept of effective FSU dose, where a convolution of the original dose distribution with a function describing the effective size of a single FSU results in the average doses in a functional subunit. Such procedure allows determining the ED50 in an FSU of a certain size, within the irradiation field. We have also looked at non uniform dose distributions to see whether using a similar method we can explain the so called “bath and shower experiments” (IJROBP 57(1): 274-281, 2003).Results: Using the least square method to compare the effective doses for different sizes of functional subunits with the experimental data we observe the best fit for about 8 mm length. It seems that this length could be understood as an effective size of functional subunits in rat spinal cord, explaining what is otherwise interpreted as a volume effect. For the non uniform dose distributions an effective FSU length of 5 mm gives the optimal fit with the Probit dose-response model. Conclusions: The concept of an effective FSU length seems to explain at least part of the effects seen when small portions of the rat spinal cord are irradiated. The most likely FSU length for the shower and bath experiments is 5 mm according to these calculations.

  • 2020
  • Patent (populärvet., debatt m.m.)abstract
    • An X-ray sensor (1) having an active detector region including a plurality of detector diodes (2) arranged on a surface region (3) of the X-ray sensor (1), a junction termination (4) surrounding the surface area (3) including the plurality of detector diodes (2), the junction termination (4) including a guard (5) arranged closest to the end of the surface region (3), a field stop (6) arranged outside the guard (2) and a number N of field limiting rings, FLRs (7) arranged between the guard (5) and the field stop (6), wherein each of the FLRs (7) are placed at positions selected so that distances between different FLRs (7) and between the guard and the first FLR lie within an effective area, the effective area being bounded by the lines α=(10+1.3×(n−1)) μm and β=(5+1.05×(n−1)) μm.

  • X-ray sensor, x-ray detector system and x-ray imaging system
  • 2018
  • Patent (populärvet., debatt m.m.)abstract
    • Disclosed is an x-ray sensor having an active detector region including a plurality of detector diodes at a first side of the sensor, and with placement of the junction termination at a second opposite side of the sensor. Normally, this implies that the junction termination is moved from the top side where the active detector area is located to the bottom side of the sensor, allowing for full utilization of the active detector area at the top side with detector diodes to the very edge of the sensor.

  • X-ray sensor, x-ray detector system and x-ray imaging system
  • 2019
  • Patent (populärvet., debatt m.m.)abstract
    • There is provided an x-ray sensor (21) comprising an active detector region including a plurality of detector diodes (22) at a first side of the sensor, and a common junction termination (23) at a second opposite side of the sensor. Normally, this implies that the junction termination (23) is moved from the top side where the active detector area is located to the bottom side of the sensor, allowing for full utilization of the active detector area at the top side with detector diodes to the very edge of the sensor.

  • Improvement in Magnetic Resonance Imaging Relating to Correction of Chemical Shift Artifact and Intensity Inhomogeneity
  • 2011
  • Patent (populärvet., debatt m.m.)abstract
    • Present invention discloses systems and methods for improvement of magnetic resonance images. Correction of a chemical shift artefact in an image acquired from a magnetic resonance imaging system is obtained by a system and a method involving iterative - compensation for the misregistration effect in an image domain. Correction of an intensity inhomogeneity in such images is obtained by a system and a method involving locating voxels corresponding to pure adipose tissue and estimating correction field from these points.
