  • Exploring Advanced Projects as Meeting Points between Students and Industry
  • 2022
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • This study includes survey of the Swedish companies and other potential employers perspective/view on the computer science students´ projects as well as the opportunities and limitations for the students. This is the first major study we have undertaken within this bachelor programme to, in depth, investigate both the company and the student views of how we should incorporate industry-oriented working methods in the context of CDIO. From the companies´ perspective, for example we are evaluating questions related to the projects´ size and projects´ output; the confidentiality of the projects; the communication aspects, like how early and how often a company need to meet the students; the job opportunities after graduation; or if the company is interested in other ways of being involved in the bachelor program. Two courses in the last semester, in the Bachelor Programme in Computer Science and Engineering, are implemented as work-based projects. Here, the students have an opportunity to work with an advanced project incorporating both prototype building, software development and academic research. The full time twenty-week project is incorporating the Conceive, Design and Implement parts of the CDIO concept. For the last three years, the proportion of work-based projects have varied between 40 % and 80 % and has mainly been done in co-operation with private companies. A few projects have been done in co-operation with none-profit organizations. The students’ perspective is very important and is therefore included in this study. The students from the bachelor programme as well as alumni have participated in the survey. The student survey focuses on expectations, experiences, and reflections from the interaction with the companies. The survey also includes questions related to acquired skills and abilities, limitations and difficulties, as well as job opportunities after the graduation.

  • Hållbar utveckling : människa, miljö och samhälle
  • 2020
  • Bok (refereegranskat)abstract
    • I boken konkretiseras begreppet hållbar utveckling.

  • A Framework to Assess Where and How Children Connect to Nature
  • 2018
  • Ingår i: Frontiers in Psychology. - : Frontiers Media SA. - 1664-1078. ; 8
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • The design of the green infrastructure in urban areas largely ignores how people's relation to nature, or human-nature connection (HNC), can be nurtured. One practical reason for this is the lack of a framework to guide the assessment of where people, and more importantly children, experience significant nature situations and establish nature routines. This paper develops such a framework. We employed a mixed-method approach to understand what qualities of nature situations connect children to nature (RQ1), what constitutes children's HNC (RQ2), and how significant nature situations and children's HNC relate to each other over time (RQ3). We first interviewed professionals in the field of connecting children to nature (N = 26), performed inductive thematic analysis of these interviews, and then further examined the inductive findings by surveying specialists (N = 275). We identified 16 qualities of significant nature situations (e.g., “awe,” “engagement of senses,” “involvement of mentors”) and 10 abilities that constitute children's HNC (e.g., “feeling comfortable in natural spaces,” “feeling attached to natural spaces,” “taking care of nature”). We elaborated three principles to answer our research questions: (1) significant nature situations are various and with differing consequences for children's HNC; (2) children's HNC is a complex embodied ability; (3) children's HNC progresses over time through diverse nature routines. Together, these findings form the Assessment framework for Children's Human Nature Situations (ACHUNAS). ACHUNAS is a comprehensive framework that outlines what to quantify or qualify when assessing “child-nature connecting” environments. It guides the assessment of where and how children connect to nature, stimulating both the design of nature-connecting human habitats as well as pedagogical approaches to HNC.

  • Sensory quality of emulsions prepared with the seaweed Ulva spp. or a derived protein ingredient
  • 2024
  • Ingår i: Journal of Future Foods. - : Beijing Academy of Food Sciences. - 2772-5669. ; 9, s. 10
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • The sensory quality of seaweed, whether as a whole biomass or as a protein ingredient, plays a crucial role in its successful commercialization. This study explored the effect of different Ulva species, biomass washing, and pH shift-based protein extraction on the sensory quality of emulsions with 0, 5, and 10 % oil. A trained panel assessed the sensory profile, complemented by analyses of volatile compounds, total ash, and amino acids. Saltiness emerged as the primary distinction between emulsions with unwashed U. linza and U. fenestrata, due to higher ash in the former. Washing U. fenestrata retained sensory qualities despite reduced ash and increased content of the lipid oxidation-marker pentanal. Protein extraction up-concentrated total amino acids 2.9-fold, and yielded emulsions with reduced particle sensation and grassy flavor, while bitterness, sourness, dark color, pentanal, hexanal, and 2-ethylfuran increased. Increased oil content of emulsions lowered their grassy odor which correlated with reduced hexanal content. Overall, these findings can contribute to the development of food products containing seaweed or protein ingredients thereof that match consumer preferences.
