  • An Exploratory Study On The Effect Of Auditory Feedback On Gaze Behavior In a Virtual Throwing Task With and Without Haptic Feedback

    • This paper presents findings from an exploratory study on the effect of auditory feedback on gaze behavior. A total of 20 participants took part in an experiment where the task was to throw a virtual ball into a goal in different conditions: visual only, audiovisual, visuohaptic and audio- visuohaptic. Two different sound models were compared in the audio conditions. Analysis of eye tracking metrics indicated large inter-subject variability; difference between subjects was greater than difference between feedback conditions. No significant effect of condition could be observed, but clusters of similar behaviors were identified. Some of the participants’ gaze behaviors appeared to have been affected by the presence of auditory feedback, but the effect of sound model was not consistent across subjects. We discuss individual behaviors and illustrate gaze behavior through sonification of gaze trajectories. Findings from this study raise intriguing questions that motivate future large-scale studies on the effect of auditory feedback on gaze behavior.

    • Sufficient and appropriate documentation of a simulation model forms an essential prerequisite for quality assessment as well as for activities of maintenance, reuse or reproduction of the model and its results. This is true for every simulation paradigm. However, in particular for agent-based simulations with their high degree of freedom in design, their usually complex behavior and interactions, high level of detail and heterogeneity, etc, documentation becomes indispensable, but also problematic.This paper contributes to general advancement of the methodological basis of agent-based simulations by presenting a structured way of documenting agent-based simulation models. We propose a documentation framework that consists of six different categories of model information: metadata, informal model characterization, model contents, expected simulation behavior, experimental frame and passed tests.

    • Det svenska e-infrastrukturlandskapet är fragmenterat och trots rekommendationer från beslutsfattare så ökar fragmenteringen. De nationella aktörer som har uppdrag och/eller mandat som rör forskningsdata är främst SNIC, SND, och Sunet. Dessa aktörer tillhandahåller tjänster och stöd till forskare under olika delar av forskningsdatalivscykeln. På grund av de oklara mandat och uppdrag som råder nationellt, så finns förväntningar på de olika aktörerna som inte går att uppfylla. Ett exempel är lagring av forskningsdata, såväl aktiva som inaktiva. Svenska forskare är del av ett globalt forskarsamhälle, och tar därigenom del av en mängd internationella infrastrukturer, verktyg, och sammanhang. I och med den implementeringsfas som EOSC gått in i, så behöver svensk e-infrastruktur vara interoperabel med de internationellt tillgängliga tjänster som svenska forskare använder.Exakt vilka behov som finns hos svenska forskare, och vem som har ansvar för att svara upp mot behoven, är oklart i många frågor. Det infrastrukturella stöd som forskare behöver för att hantera forskningsdata under hela datalivscykeln, med välfungerande gränssnitt mellan nationella och internationella aktörers e-infrastrukturlösningar finns i vissa fall och är i andra fall fragmenterat. För att komma vidare i utvecklingen av sammanhållet stöd för forskare, formerades under 2021 ett nationellt samarbete inom verksamhetsarkitektur för forskningsdataområdet, med syfte att ta fram ett gemensamt bildspråk, visualisera ett mycket komplext område, och att konkretisera krav, villkor, juridiska ramverk, styrdokument etc. som påverkar forskningsdatahantering.Projektet som rapporteras här fokuserade på vad forskare behöver ha för att forskningsdata ska hanteras på ett högkvalitativt sätt och vilket infrastrukturellt stöd forskarna i detta. Projektet fokuserade på helheten i datahanteringen, vad som finns på plats på nationell nivå och vad som behöver åtgärdas. Angreppsättet var verksamhetsarkitekturellt, som med Vintergatan som metod. En grundkarta för forskningsdataområdet, framtagen inom ett tidigare verksamhetsarkitekturellt projekt på Lunds universitet, låg till grund för projektet.Denna rapport beskriver resultaten av ett projekt där ett verksamhetsarkitekturellt angreppssätt har använts för att förstå, utforska och beskriva forskares praktiker och behov av stöd i sitt arbete med forskningsdatahantering, och särskilt datalagring. Här beskriver vi rapporten för dig som läser, så att du kan välja de delar som du finner mest intressanta och relevanta för just dig, just nu. Vår ambition har varit att ta fram ett rikt material som kan leva vidare, byggas på, revideras, förkastas, byggas upp på nytt utifrån nya resultat, och så vidare.

  • Digital forensic certification versus forensic science certification

    • Companies often rely on certifications to select appropriate individuals in disciplines such as accounting and engineering. The general public also tends to have confidence in a professional who has some kinds of certification because certification implies a standard of excellence and that the individual has expert knowledge in a specific discipline. An interesting question to the digital forensic community is: How is a digital forensic certification compared to a forensic science certification? The objective of this paper is to compare the requirements of a digital forensic certification to those of a forensic science certification. Results of the comparison shed lights on the maturity level of the digital forensic discipline and reveal what can be improved to enhance the confidence and trust of the general public on the digital forensic profession.

  • Anticipatory Instances In Films : What Do They Tell Us About Event Understanding?

    • Event perception research highlights the significance of visuospatial attributes that influence event segmentation and prediction. The present study investigates how the visuospatial attributes in film events correlate to viewers’ ongoing event processes such as anticipatory gaze, prediction and segmentation. We derive film instances (such as occlusion, enter/exit, turn towards etc.) that show trends of (high) anticipatory viewing behaviour from an in-depth multimodal (such as speech, handaction, gaze etc.) event features analysis of 25 movie scenes and correlated with visual attention analysis (eye-tracking 32 participants per scene). The first results provide a solid basis for using these derived instances to examine further the nature of the different visuospatial attributes in relation to event changes (where anticipation and segmentation occurs). With the results, we (aim to) argue that by investigating film instances of anticipatory nature, one could explicate how humans perform high-level characterization of visuospatial attributes and understand events.

    • This paper describes a novel registration approach that is based on a combination of visual and 3D range information.To identify correspondences, local visual features obtained from images of a standard color camera are compared and the depth of matching features (and their position covariance) is determined from the range measurements of a 3D laserscanner. The matched depth-interpolated image features allows to apply registration with known correspondences.We compare several ICP variants in this paper and suggest an extension that considers the spatial distance betweenmatching features to eliminate false correspondences. Experimental results are presented in both outdoor and indoor environments. In addition to pair-wise registration, we also propose a global registration method that registers allscan poses simultaneously.

    • Objective: Since 1999, the Nursing Terminology Summits have promoted the development, evaluation, and use of reference terminology for nursing and its integration into comprehensive health care data standards. The use of such standards to represent nursing knowledge, terminology, processes, and information in electronic health records will enhance continuity of care, decision support, and the exchange of comparable patient information. As part of this activity, working groups at the 2001, 2002, and 2003 Summit Conferences examined how to represent nursing information in the Health Level 7 (HL7) Reference Information Model (RIM).Design: The working groups represented the nursing process as a dynamic sequence of phases, each containing information specific to the activities of the phase. They used Universal Modeling Language (UML) to represent this domain knowledge in models. An Activity Diagram was used to create a dynamic model of the nursing process. After creating a structural model of the information used at each stage of the nursing process, the working groups mapped that information to the HL7 RIM. They used a hierarchical structure for the organization of nursing knowledge as the basis for a hierarchical model for "Findings about the patient." The modeling and mapping reported here were exploratory and preliminary, not exhaustive or definitive. The intent was to evaluate the feasibility of representing some types of nursing information consistently with HL7 standards.Measurements: The working groups conducted a small-scale validation by testing examples of nursing terminology against the HL7 RIM class "Observation."Results: It was feasible to map patient information from the proposed models to the RIM class "Observation." Examples illustrate the models and the mapping of nursing terminology to the HL7 RIM.Conclusion: It is possible to model and map nursing information into the comprehensive health care information model, the HL7 RIM. These models must evolve and undergo further validation by clinicians. The integration of nursing information, terminology, and processes in information models is a first step toward rendering nursing information machine-readable in electronic patient records and messages. An eventual practical result, after much more development, would be to create computable, structured information for nursing documentation.

    • The development of smart cities becomes increasingly reliant on leveraging modern technologies such as Internet of Things (IoT), big data, cloud computing, and Artificial Intelligence (AI). While the importance of applying such technologies has been widely recognized, they might not have been effectively discussed in the early design phase. As a widely applied planning and architecting tool, traditional Enterprise Architecture Frameworks (EAF) are not always able to meet requirements of urban development in an expected way. This might be alleviated by applying a smart city-oriented EAF which supports discussion of modern techniques in the early design phase. In the EU smart city project +CityxChange, an EAF was proposed to address such issues. In this article, we focus on an initial evaluation of the EAF proposed in the +CityxChange project according to the Design Science Research (DSR) method. We discuss how the EAF has enhanced the widely used EAF (i.e., The Open Group Architecture Framework, TOGAF for short) by extending its layer-based Enterprise Architecture (EA). We also present a sample scenario demonstrating how the EAF can be used.

    • This methodological paper describes how qualitative data analysis software (QDAS) is being used to manage and support a three-step protocol analysis (PA) of think aloud (TA) data in a study examining emergency nurses' reasoning during triage. The authors believe that QDAS program QRS NVivo will greatly facilitate the PA and will allow them to identify and describe the information that triage nurses concentrate on during triage, and how they structure this information to make a triage decision. These findings could assist in designing and creating decision support systems to guide nurses' triaging. Additionally, details about how to use QRS NVivo for PA of TA data may assist and guide future informatics research using similar methodology are presented here. This innovative use of QDAS holds great promise for future nursing informatics research.
