  • Learning to Share: Engineering Adaptive Decision-Support for Online Social Networks
  • 2017
  • Ingår i: PROCEEDINGS OF THE 2017 32ND IEEE/ACM INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE ON AUTOMATED SOFTWARE ENGINEERING (ASE'17). - 1527-1366. - 9781538626849 ; , s. 280-285
  • Bokkapitel (övrigt vetenskapligt/konstnärligt)abstract
    • Some online social networks (OSNs) allow users to define friendship-groups as reusable shortcuts for sharing information with multiple contacts. Posting exclusively to a friendship-group gives some privacy control, while supporting communication with (and within) this group. However, recipients of such posts may want to reuse content for their own social advantage, and can bypass existing controls by copy-pasting into a new post; this cross-posting poses privacy risks. This paper presents a learning to share approach that enables the incorporation of more nuanced privacy controls into OSNs. Specifically, we propose a reusable, adaptive software architecture that uses rigorous runtime analysis to help OSN users to make informed decisions about suitable audiences for their posts. This is achieved by supporting dynamic formation of recipient-groups that benefit social interactions while reducing privacy risks. We exemplify the use of our approach in the context of Facebook.

  • Are chrome extensions compliant with the spirit of least privilege?
  • 2022
  • Ingår i: International Journal of Information Security. - : Springer Science and Business Media LLC. - 1615-5262 .- 1615-5270. ; 21:6, s. 1283-1297
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Extensions are small applications installed by users and enrich the user experience of browsing the Internet. Browsers expose a set of restricted APIs to extensions. To be used, extensions need to list the permissions associated with these APIs in a mandatory extension file named manifest. In particular, Chrome’s permission ecosystem was designed in the spirit of the least privilege. Yet, this paper demonstrates that 39.8% of the analyzed extensions provided by the official Web Store are compliant with the spirit of least privilege. Also, we develop: (1) a browser extension to make aware regular users of the permissions the extensions they install; (2) a web app where extensions developers can check whether their extensions are compliant with the spirit of the least privileged; and (3) a set of scripts that can be part of the vendors’ acceptance criteria such that when developers upload their extensions to the official repositories, the scripts automatically analyze the extensions and generate a report about the permissions and the usage.

  • Facilitating Mobile Music Sharing and Social Interaction with Push!Music
  • 2007
  • Ingår i: Proceedings of the 40th Hawaii International Conference on System Sciences. - Los Alamitos, Calif. : IEEE Computer Society Washington. - 1530-1605. - 0769527558 ; , s. 87-
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Push!Music is a novel mobile music listening and sharing system, where users automatically receive songs that have autonomously recommended themselves from nearby players depending on similar listening behaviour and music history. Push!Music also enables users to wirelessly send songs between each other as personal recommendations. We conducted a two-week preliminary user study of Push!Music, where a group of five friends used the application in their everyday life. We learned for example that the shared music in Push!Music became a start for social interaction and that received songs in general were highly appreciated and could be looked upon as 'treats'.

  • Social-IWSTCNN: A social interaction-weighted spatio- temporal convolutional neural network for pedestrian trajectory prediction in urban traffic scenarios
  • 2021
  • Ingår i: IEEE Intelligent Vehicles Symposium, 11-17 July 2021, Proceedings. - : IEEE. - 9781728153957 ; 2021-July, s. 1515-1522
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Pedestrian trajectory prediction in urban scenarios is essential for automated driving. This task is challenging because the behavior of pedestrians is influenced by both their own history paths and the interactions with others. Previous research modeled these interactions with pooling mechanisms or aggregating with hand-crafted attention weights. In this paper, we present the Social Interaction-Weighted Spatio- Temporal Convolutional Neural Network (Social-IWSTCNN), which includes both the spatial and the temporal features. We propose a novel design, namely the Social Interaction Extractor, to learn the spatial and social interaction features of pedestrians. Most previous works used ETH and UCY datasets which include five scenes but do not cover urban traffic scenarios extensively for training and evaluation. In this paper, we use the recently released large-scale Waymo Open Dataset in urban traffic scenarios, which includes 374 urban training scenes and 76 urban testing scenes to analyze the performance of our proposed algorithm in comparison to the state-of-the-art (SOTA) models. The results show that our algorithm outperforms SOTA algorithms such as Social-LSTM, Social-GAN, and Social-STGCNN on both Average Displacement Error (ADE) and Final Displacement Error (FDE). Furthermore, our Social- IWSTCNN is 54.8 times faster in data pre-processing speed, and 4.7 times faster in total test speed than the current best SOTA algorithm Social-STGCNN.

  • Generative comics: a character evolution approach for creating fictional comics
  • 2020
  • Ingår i: Digital Creativity. - : Informa UK Limited. - 1462-6268 .- 1744-3806. ; 31:4, s. 284-301
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Comics can be a suitable form of representation for generative narrative. This paper provides an argument for this based on an analysis of properties of the comics medium, and describes a tool for character design and comic strip creation that applies interactive evolution methods to characters in a virtual environment. The system is used to interactively create artificial characters with extreme personality traits inspired by well-known comics characters.

  • Vicarious Value Learning and Inference in Human-Human and Human-Robot Interaction
  • 2019
  • Ingår i: 2019 8th International Conference on Affective Computing and Intelligent Interaction Workshops and Demos, ACIIW 2019. - 9781728138923 - 9781728138916
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • © 2019 IEEE. Among the biggest challenges for researchers of human-robot interaction is imbuing robots with lifelong learning capacities that allow efficient interactions between humans and robots. In order to address this challenge we are developing computational mechanisms for a humanoid robotic agent utilizing both system 1 and system 2-like cognitive processing capabilities. At the core of this processing is a Social Affective Appraisal model that allows for vicarious value learning and inference. Using a multi-dimensional reinforcement learning approach the robotic agent learns affective value-based functions (system 1). This learning can ground representations of affective relations (predicates) relevant to interacting agents. In this article we discuss the existing theoretical basis for developing our neural network model as a system 1-like process. We also discuss initial ideas for developing system 2-like top-down/generative affective (semantic relation-based) processing. The aim of the symbolic-connectionist architectural development is to promote autonomous capabilities in humanoid robots for interacting efficiently/intelligently (recombinant application of learned associations) with humans in changing and challenging environments.

  • Empathic Robotic Tutors for Personalised Learning: A Multidisciplinary Approach
  • 2015
  • Ingår i: Social Robotics: Proceedings of the 7th International Conference, ICSR 2015, Paris, France, October 26-30, 2015. - Cham : Springer International Publishing. ; , s. 285-295, s. 285-295
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Within any learning process, the formation of a socio-emotional relationship between learner and teacher is paramount to facilitating a good learning experience. The ability to form this relationship may come naturally to an attentive teacher; but how do we endow an unemotional robot with this ability? In this paper, we extend upon insights from the literature to include tools from user-centered design (UCD) and analyses of human-human interaction (HHI) as the basis of a multidisciplinary approach in the development of an empathic robotic tutor. We discuss the lessons learned in respect to design principles with the aim of personalised learning with empathic robotic tutors.

  • 2019
  • Ingår i: Interprofessional Simulation in Health Care. Abrandt Dahlgren M., Rystedt H., Felländer-Tsai L., Nyström S. (red.). - Cham : Springer. - 2210-5549 .- 2210-5557. - 9783030195427 - 9783030195410 ; , s. 31-55
  • Bokkapitel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • This chapter provides examples of how arrangements for collection and analyses of video data were organized across different sites. The common approach to data collection builds on established methods for recording of audiovisual materials in the social sciences with a focus on interaction and learning. The chapter describes how arrangements for data collection across different sites were organised, and how video analysis can be used as a method for collaborative analysis of practices. One approach is entitled purposeful approach to collaborative data analysis. A second approach draws on video-based studies of situated action, and a third approach of analysis is the use of qualitatively different readings of the same data. One does not replace the other, but rather draws out different features.
