  • Digital Histories: Emergent Approaches within the New Digital History
  • 2020
  • Ingår i: Digital Histories: Emergent Approaches within the New Digital History, eds. Mats Fridlund, Mila Oiva, & Petri Paju. - Helsinki : Helsinki University Press. - 9789523690202 ; , s. 3-18
  • Samlingsverk (redaktörskap) (övrigt vetenskapligt/konstnärligt)abstract
    • Historical scholarship is currently undergoing a digital turn. All historians have experienced this change in one way or another, by writing on word processors, applying quantitative methods on digitalized source materials, or using internet resources and digital tools. Digital Histories showcases this emerging wave of digital history research. It presents work by historians who – on their own or through collaborations with e.g. information technology specialists – have uncovered new, empirical historical knowledge through digital and computational methods. The topics of the volume range from the medieval period to the present day, including various parts of Europe. The chapters apply an exemplary array of methods, such as digital metadata analysis, machine learning, network analysis, topic modelling, named entity recognition, collocation analysis, critical search, and text and data mining. The volume argues that digital history is entering a mature phase, digital history ‘in action’, where its focus is shifting from the building of resources towards the making of new historical knowledge. This also involves novel challenges that digital methods pose to historical research, including awareness of the pitfalls and limitations of the digital tools and the necessity of new forms of digital source criticisms. Through its combination of empirical, conceptual and contextual studies, Digital Histories is a timely and pioneering contribution taking stock of how digital research currently advances historical scholarship.

  • Exploring security in software architecture and design
  • 2019
  • Samlingsverk (redaktörskap) (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Cyber-attacks continue to rise as more individuals rely on storing personal information on networks. Even though these networks are continuously checked and secured, cybercriminals find new strategies to break through these protections. Thus, advanced security systems, rather than simple security patches, need to be designed and developed. Exploring Security in Software Architecture and Design is an essential reference source that discusses the development of security-aware software systems that are built into every phase of the software architecture. Featuring research on topics such as migration techniques, service-based software, and building security, this book is ideally designed for computer and software engineers, ICT specialists, researchers, academicians, and field experts.

  • Cellular V2X for Connected Automated Driving
  • 2021
  • Samlingsverk (redaktörskap) (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Cellular vehicle-to-everything (C-V2X) technologies enable vehicles to communicate both with the network, with each other, and with other road users using reliable, responsive, secure, and high-capacity communication links. Cellular V2X for Connected Automated Driving provides an up-to-date view of the role of C-V2X technologies in connected automated driving (CAD) and connected road user (CRU) services, such as advanced driving support, improved road safety, infotainment, over-the-air software updates, remote driving, and traffic efficiency services enabling the future large-scale transition to self-driving vehicles. This timely book discusses where C-V2X technology is situated within the increasingly interconnected ecosystems of the mobile communications and automotive industries. An expert contributor team from both industry and academia explore potential applications, business models, standardization, spectrum and channel modeling, network enhancements, security and privacy, and more. Broadly divided into two parts—introductory and advanced material—the text first introduces C-V2X technology and introduces a variety of use cases and opportunities, requiring no prerequisite technical knowledge. The second part of the book assumes a basic understanding of the field of telecommunications, presenting technical descriptions of the radio, system aspects, and network design for the previously discussed applications. This up-to-date resource: Provides technical details from the finding of the European Commission H2020 5G PPP 5GCAR project, a collaborative research initiative between the telecommunications and automotive industries and academic researchers.  Elaborates on use cases, business models, and a technology roadmap for those seeking to shape a start-up in the area of automated and autonomous driving. Provides up to date descriptions of standard specifications, standardization and industry organizations and important regulatory aspects for connected vehicles. Provides technical insights and solutions for the air interface, network architecture, positioning and security to support vehicles at different automation levels. Includes detailed tables, plots, and equations to clarify concepts, accompanied by online tutorial slides for use in teaching and seminars Thanks to its mix of introductory content and technical information, Cellular V2X for Connected Automated Driving is a must-have for industry and academic researchers, telecom and automotive industry practitioners, leaders, policymakers, and regulators, and university-level instructors and students.

  • Capability Management in Digital Enterprises
  • 2018
  • Samlingsverk (redaktörskap) (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Putting capability management into practice requires both a solid theoretical foundation and realistic approaches. This book introduces a development methodology that integrates business and information system development and run-time adjustment based on the concept of capability by presenting the main findings of the CaaS project – the Capability-Driven Development (CDD) methodology, the architecture and components of the CDD environment, examples of real-world applications of CDD, and aspects of CDD usage for creating business value and new opportunities. Capability thinking characterizes an organizational mindset, putting capabilities at the center of the business model and information systems development. It is expected to help organizations and in particular digital enterprises to increase flexibility and agility in adapting to changes in their economic and regulatory environments. Capability management denotes the principles of how capability thinking should be implemented in an organization and the organizational means. This book is intended for anyone who wants to explore the opportunities for developing and managing context-dependent business capabilities and the supporting business services. It does not require a detailed understanding of specific development methods and tools, although some background knowledge and experience in information system development is advisable. The individual chapters have been written by leading researchers in the field of information systems development, enterprise modeling and capability management, as well as practitioners and industrial experts from these fields.

  • Defining the 'D' in ICT4D: Graduate Papers on Development, Globalisation, and ICT
  • 2009
  • Samlingsverk (redaktörskap) (övrigt vetenskapligt/konstnärligt)abstract
    • IPID – the International Network for Postgraduate students in ICT4D – arranged a course in the academic year 2008/2009 as a response to several requests from IPID members for an introduction to development theories and for guidance in how to define the ‘D’ in the expression ICT4D. The aim of the course “Development, Globalisation and ICT (Defining the ’D’ in ICT4D) – 7.5 ECTS” was thus to provide a sound foundation for advanced studies in ICT4D. The course was designed to provide insights into some of the most influential development theories. The selection was made on the basis of classical bodies of ideas with strong impact on recent notions of development. Devoted scholars from relevant fields were invited to lecture and comment on student papers. Postgraduate students from all over the world registered for the course. Video recording was used to provide access to the lectures for those who could not attend. In the event we have eleven completed papers, which are presented in this report.

  • Special Issue on Enterprise Modeling for Business Agility
  • 2018. - 1
  • Samlingsverk (redaktörskap) (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Enterprise Modeling (EM) addresses business-IT alignment in a holistic manner by providing the techniques, languages, tools and best practices for using models to represent organizational knowledge and information systems from different perspectives. Complex business and technology conditions means that EM plays an important role in reaching such alignment. Quality attributes such as agility, sensitivity, responsiveness, adaptability, autonomy and interoperability are emerging as the norms for advanced enterprise models. Achieving these qualities will allow all components of an enterprise to operate together in a cooperative manner for the purpose of maximizing overall benefit to the enterprise.
