  • Study of the unbound nucleus 11N by elastic resonance scattering
  • 1996
  • Ingår i: Physical Review C (Nuclear Physics). - 0556-2813 .- 2469-9985 .- 2469-9993. ; 54:4, s. 1511-1514
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Resonances in the unbound nucleus 11N have been studied, using the resonance scattering reaction 10C+p. The data give evidence for three states above the 10C+p threshold with energies 1.30, 2.04, and 3.72 MeV. These states can be interpreted, in a potential-model analysis, as the ground state and the first two excited states with spin-parity 1 / 2+, 1 / 2-, and 5 / 2+ arising from the shell-model orbitals 1s1 / 2, 0p1 / 2, and 0d5 / 2. A narrow state superposed on a broad structure found at higher energy could be interpreted as the mirror state of the 3 / 2- in 11Be shifted down in energy. This shift would suggest a large radius of the potential.

  • Deep Nearest Neighbors for Anomaly Detection in Chest X-Rays
  • 2024
  • Ingår i: Lecture Notes in Computer Science (including subseries Lecture Notes in Artificial Intelligence and Lecture Notes in Bioinformatics). - 1611-3349 .- 0302-9743. ; 14349 LNCS, s. 293-302
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Identifying medically abnormal images is crucial to the diagnosis procedure in medical imaging. Due to the scarcity of annotated abnormal images, most reconstruction-based approaches for anomaly detection are trained only with normal images. At test time, images with large reconstruction errors are declared abnormal. In this work, we propose a novel feature-based method for anomaly detection in chest x-rays in a setting where only normal images are provided during training. The model consists of lightweight adaptor and predictor networks on top of a pre-trained feature extractor. The parameters of the pre-trained feature extractor are frozen, and training only involves fine-tuning the proposed adaptor and predictor layers using Siamese representation learning. During inference, multiple augmentations are applied to the test image, and our proposed anomaly score is simply the geometric mean of the k-nearest neighbor distances between the augmented test image features and the training image features. Our method achieves state-of-the-art results on two challenging benchmark datasets, the RSNA Pneumonia Detection Challenge dataset, and the VinBigData Chest X-ray Abnormalities Detection dataset. Furthermore, we empirically show that our method is robust to different amounts of anomalies among the normal images in the training dataset. The code is available at: https://github.com/XixiLiu95/deep-kNN-anomaly-detection.

  • Neutron-rich fragments produced by in-flight fission of U 238
  • 2019
  • Ingår i: Physical Review C. - 2469-9993 .- 2469-9985. ; 99:5
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • The production cross sections of neutron-rich fission residues in reactions induced by U238 projectiles at 950A MeV impinging on Pb and Be targets are investigated at the Fragment Separator at GSI. These two targets allow us to investigate fission processes induced by two reaction mechanisms, Coulomb and nuclear excitations, and to study the role of these mechanisms in the neutron excess of the final fragments.

  • Monte Carlo simulation of semiconductor-based detector in mixed radiation field in the atmosphere
  • 2022
  • Ingår i: Life Sciences in Space Research. - : Elsevier BV. - 2214-5532 .- 2214-5524. ; 34, s. 30-36
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Calculation of radiation protection quantities in tissue equivalent material from measurements using semiconductor detectors requires correction factors for conversion of the measured values in the semiconductor material to the tissue equivalent material. This approach has been used many times in aircraft and for space dosimetry. In this paper, we present the results of Monte Carlo simulations which reveal the need to take into account both the radiation field and the detector material when performing the conversion of measured values to radiation protection quantities. It is shown that for low Z target material, most of the dose equivalent at aviation altitudes comes from neutrons originating from nuclear reactions, while in high Z targets most of the dose equivalent comes from photons, originating from electromagnetic reactions.

  • ALMA Lensing Cluster Survey: A strongly lensed multiply imaged dusty system at z ≥ 6
  • 2021
  • Ingår i: Monthly Notices of the Royal Astronomical Society. - : Oxford University Press (OUP). - 0035-8711 .- 1365-2966. ; 505:4, s. 4838-4846
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • We report the discovery of an intrinsically faint, quintuply-imaged, dusty galaxy MACS0600-z6 at a redshift z = 6.07 viewed through the cluster MACSJ0600.1–2008 (z = 0.46). A ≃ 4σ dust detection is seen at 1.2mm as part of the ALMA Lensing Cluster Survey (ALCS), an on-going ALMA Large programme, and the redshift is secured via [C II] 158 μm emission described in a companion paper. In addition, spectroscopic follow-up with GMOS/Gemini-North shows a break in the galaxy’s spectrum, consistent with the Lyman break at that redshift. We use a detailed mass model of the cluster and infer a magnification μ ≳ 30 for the most magnified image of this galaxy, which provides an unprecedented opportunity to probe the physical properties of a sub-luminous galaxy at the end of cosmic reionization. Based on the spectral energy distribution, we infer lensing-corrected stellar and dust masses of 2.9-2.3+115 × 109 and 4.8-3.4+45 × 106 M☉, respectively, a star formation rate of 9.7-6.6+220 M☉ yr−1, an intrinsic size of 0.54-0.14+026 kpc, and a luminosity-weighted age of 200 ± 100 Myr. Strikingly, the dust production rate in this relatively young galaxy appears to be larger than that observed for equivalent, lower redshift sources. We discuss if this implies that early supernovae are more efficient dust producers and the consequences for using dust mass as a probe of earlier star formation.

  • Investigating episodic accretion in a very low-mass young stellar object
  • 2020
  • Ingår i: Astronomy and Astrophysics. - : EDP Sciences. - 0004-6361 .- 1432-0746. ; 643
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Very low-mass Class I protostars have been investigated very little thus far. Variability of these young stellar objects (YSOs) and whether or not they are capable of strong episodic accretion is also left relatively unstudied. Aims. We investigate accretion variability in IRS 54 (YLW52), a Class I very low-mass protostar with a mass of M∗ ∼ -0.2 M⊙. Methods. We obtained spectroscopic and photometric data with VLT/ISAAC and VLT/SINFONI in the near-infrared (J, H, and K bands) across four epochs (2005, 2010, 2013, and 2014). We used accretion-tracing lines (Paβ and Brγ) and outflow-tracing lines (H2 and [Fe II]) to examine physical properties and kinematics of the object. Results. A large increase in luminosity was found between the 2005 and 2013 epochs of more than 1 magnitude in the K band, followed in 2014 by a steep decrease. Consistently, the mass accretion rate (Macc) rose by an order of magnitude from ∼10-8 M⊙ yr-1 to ∼10-7 M⊙ yr-1 between the two early epochs. The visual extinction (AV) has also increased from ∼15 mag in 2005 to ∼24 mag in 2013. This rise in AV in tandem with the increase in Macc is explained by the lifting up of a large amount of dust from the disc of IRS 54, following the augmented accretion and ejection activity in the YSO, which intersects our line of sight due to the almost edge-on geometry of the disc. Because of the strength and timescales involved in this dramatic increase, this event is believed to have been an accretion burst possibly similar to bursts of EXor-type objects. IRS 54 is the lowest mass Class I source observed to have an accretion burst of this type, and therefore potentially one of the lowest mass EXor-type objects known so far.

  • Super-resolved spatial transcriptomics by deep data fusion
  • 2022
  • Ingår i: Nature Biotechnology. - : Nature Research. - 1087-0156 .- 1546-1696. ; 40:4, s. 476-479
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Current methods for spatial transcriptomics are limited by low spatial resolution. Here we introduce a method that integrates spatial gene expression data with histological image data from the same tissue section to infer higher-resolution expression maps. Using a deep generative model, our method characterizes the transcriptome of micrometer-scale anatomical features and can predict spatial gene expression from histology images alone.

  • Radiation Detection Techniques for the Enhancement of Nuclear Safety
  • 2015
  • Doktorsavhandling (övrigt vetenskapligt/konstnärligt)abstract
    • The hazard originating from the use of nuclear materials in various areas of the society necessitates a number of experimental techniques for controlling and increasing the safety connected to radioactive substances. The following thesis is divided into two parts, representing different aspects to the detection of radiation effects. The first part aims at investigating radiation-induced material damage of steel alloys that may potentially be used in future Generation IV systems. Concepts like the LFR or SFR will operate under higher temperature and radiation levels than present LWR and detailed knowledge on the material integrity under high level conditions is important for the performance of the major safety barrier and thus the safety of a nuclear power plant. Ion-irradiation is used to simulate neutron-induced damage and the microstructure of the samples is investigated with the help of Positron Annihilation Lifetime Spectroscopy with the Chalmers Pulsed Positron Beam. A study regarding problems and challenges of ion-irradiation experiments is included. Additionally, depth profiling for the calibration of the measurement setup is performed. The second part aims at experimental and computational methods for purposes of Nuclear Safeguards and Emergency Preparedness, respectively. The chapter on safeguards measurements treats two of the major issues within the field, namely spent fuel and nuclear forensics. Firstly, an independent method for investigations of the boron content in a PWR fuel pool is presented, demonstrating how liquid scintillator detectors can be applied for estimations of the relative amount of neutrons absorbed in H and B. Secondly, HPGe measurements on strong Am-sources are performed for a qualitative analysis of inherent impurities to be used as signatures for the identification of unknown sources, helpful to forensic investigations. The chapter on Emergency Preparedness summarizes the computational work that was performed for simulations of source distributions in human phantoms. The IRINA voxel phantom is presented and Monte Carlo simulations for comparisons to the IGOR voxel phantom and the ICRP reference adult male voxel phantom are made for different distributions of Co and La in the human body.
