- Rubin (Robert) Schatten was a Polish-American mathematician, working mainly in functionalanalysis. In the years 1929-1933 he studied at the Jan Kazimierz University in Lvov, and master degree has written under supervision of Stefan Banach. From February 1938 until his death in August 1977 he stayed in the USA, where he obtained his doctorate in 1943 and worked at several American universities. Schatten has published 13 scientific papers and two monographs on the operator theory.He was one of the pioneers of the systematic study of tensor products of Banach spaces. His name in mathematics was immortalized in Schatten's classes of operators. We became interested in Schatten because of the beginnings of his career in Lvov and the lack of a photo in all descriptions of him.So we present the course of his life. His photo will also appear for the first time.

- Wiaczesław Aleksiejewicz Dobrowolski był ukraińskim matematykiem zajmującym się historią matematyki w dość szerokim zakresie. W latach 1946-1948 studiował naUniwersytecie Kijowskim i zaocznie w Wyższej Szkole Pedagogicznej w Kijowie. W 1950 roku ukończył też zaocznie studia z filozofii na Uniwersytecie Moskiewskim. Od 1950 roku pracował na Politechnice Kijowskiej jako asystent (1950-1957), docent (1957-1972) i profesor (1972-2007). Był doktorem habilitowanym nauk matematycznych oraz zasłużonym działaczem oświaty Ukrainy. Opublikował ponad200 prac, w tym 9 monografii i książek, 2 podręczniki, dziesiątki artykułów przeglądowych z historii analizymatematycznej, geometrii analitycznej, teorii równań różniczkowych i innych zagadnień z historii matematyki. Przedstawiamy tutaj koleje jego życia oraz krótko jego dorobek naukowy.

- Some relations between the James (or non-square) constant J(X) and the Jordan-von Neumann constant CNJ(X), and the normal structure coefficient N(X) of Banach spaces X are investigated. Relations between J(X) nad J(X*) are given as an answer to a problem of Gao and Lau[16). Connections between CNJ(X) and J(X) are also shown. The normal structure coefficient of a Banach space is estimated by CNJ(X) constant, which implies that a Banach space with CNJ(X)-constant less than 5/4 has the fixed point property.

- Kazimierz Abramowicz was a Polish mathematician, working in the theory of analytic functions. In 1922 he defended his Ph.D. thesis "On hypergeometric functions with arbitrary amount of seemingly singular points" at the Warsaw University. He published over twenty scientific papers. His life and scientific achievements are described. Three photos of him are included. Paper finishes with a full list of his scientific papers, his talks and list of publications about him.

Wśród autorów byli: Stefan Banach, Leon Chwistek, Meier Eidelheit, Gertwagen, Jan Hercberg, Marian Mojżesz Jacob, Salomon Lubelski, Jan Mergentaler, Wasyl Miliańczuk, Marian Stanisław Puchalik, Antoni Wincenty Raabe, Stanisław Saks, Hugo Steinhaus, Zygmunt Zachorski, Miron Zarycki i Eustachy Żyliński. Do tej pory myśleliśmy, że zaginęły prace, ale na szczęście w archiwum znaleziono siedem rękopisów. Prezentujemy tytuły znalezionych artykułów z informacją, co będzie dalej z rękopisami.Uwaga: W artykule na stronie 74 po [Z5] powinno być:[Z6] E. Żyliński, O gremowskiej transformacji macierzy prostokątnych, 30-62, natomiast numery [Z6] - [Z17]^* powinny być numerowane jako [Z7] - [Z18]^*.
