  • Together we shape better libraries : the Swedish Quality Handbook Project
  • 2005
  • Ingår i: IFLA Journal. - 0340-0352. ; 31:2, s. 188-193
  • Tidskriftsartikel (populärvet., debatt m.m.)abstract
    • The aim of the Swedish Quality Handbook Project is to help Swedish libraries in all parts of the public sector to start conducting systematic quality management, by utilizing performance indicators. The project is intended to serve as a springboard for libraries interested in engaging in quality development. The cooperation is based on the collection of data for the twelve indicators over a period of three years and a comparison of the results over time and with those of other libraries. The most important outcome from the project is that it has led 50 Swedish libraries to start performing systematic quality management. The project is run by The Special Interest Group for Quality Management and Statistics within the Swedish Library Association, which plays an active role in encouraging Swedish libraries to engage in quality development and evaluation.

  • Young and Vaccinated? : Children and Young People’s Perspectives on Covid-19 Vaccinations
  • 2022
  • Konferensbidrag (populärvet., debatt m.m.)abstract
    • The research project is inspired by an ongoing study showing that although children and young people are central subjects to the debates on vaccine-preventable diseases, and constitute the main target of vaccines, young people are largely absent in public debates and research about vaccination-related attitudes and decision-making processes. In the pre-pandemic time, vaccination attitudes were commonly discussed in relation to parents’ views and decision-making processes concerning preventable “child diseases”. Despite the fact that the focus has been on parents, children have been central to arguments and practices, as both positive and negative attitudes toward immunizations may be expressed as care for children. The perspectives of children and young people themselves, particularly in relation to covid-19 vaccinations, are largely unexplored. In this research project, interviews will be conducted with children and young people, from the age of 12, about their views, decision-making processes and resistances in the context of covid-19 vaccinations. Focusing particularly on children and young people in Sweden whose views differ from the views of parents, health professionals or other adults, this project aims to foreground resistances in childhoods and youth in general and expand the notion of resistance in vaccination contexts in particular. Experiences from different Swedish Regional Councils and diverse procedures concerning assessments of age and maturity will be included in order to explore how young people navigate in terrains that requires adult consent and how these procedures enable but also constrain children and young people’s vaccination-related decision-making.

  • Participatory practice : community-based action for transformative change
  • 2009
  • Bok (populärvet., debatt m.m.)abstract
    • Participatory Practice explores the core ideas of participatory practice and how theory and practice can be integrated to achieve transformative change. The ideas in the book are founded on two premises: firstly, that transformative practice begins in the everyday stories that people tell about their lives and that practical theory generated from these narratives is the best way to inform both policy and practice. Secondly, that participatory practice is a tool for examining this knowledge in that it allows practitioners to examine the way they view the world and to situate their local practice within bigger social issues. The book  is expected to be of interest to both academics and community-based practitioners. Professor Springett commented: “Writing the book was a transformative experience in itself because we had to cross the divide between our different professions. The idea to write it came from our joint concern for the appropriation of the language of participation by many politicians and agencies without a real examination of what true participation actually consists of."

  • Electricity security and contingency planning in hierarchy and network - examples from Sweden
  • 2009
  • Ingår i: Energy Policy: Economic Effects, Security Aspects and Environmental Issues. - New York : Nova Science Publisher. - 9781606928943 ; , s. 225-238
  • Bokkapitel (populärvet., debatt m.m.)abstract
    • This article discusses the emergency management strategies of municipal authorities for securing the electricity supply, according to a networked, or “governance”, control and direction structure, and how this influences the relationship between electricity companies and Swedish municipalities. The article also discusses the role how the households during outages, how they perceive their responsibility during an outage, but also how municipalities and grid companies understand the households’ responsibility. Since electricity market deregulation, the responsibility for electricity supply security has become unclear; field studies of Swedish municipalities indicate that all actors still seem to be seeking to find their proper roles in the deregulated market. Municipalities still expect to exercise influence over private energy company decisions regarding prioritization of emergency power deliveries. Energy companies vacillate between emphasizing their need to regard economic factors and their sense of responsibility for providing a secure electricity supply to vital municipal functions (even though municipalities may lack contracts specifying this). The households’ responsibility for being prepared for an outage was fuzzy for the actors. Both municipalities and grid companies expected the customers to have some preparedness. The household meant that they lacked any responsibility to be prepared for an outage even if they need to be prepared to survive.
