  • Posthumanistiska nyckelstexter
  • 2012. - 1

  • Postfeminism as Coping Strategy : Understandings of Gender and Intragroup Conflict among Swedish Welfare Workers
  • 2023
  • Ingår i: NORA. - : Routledge. - 0803-8740 .- 1502-394X. ; 31:1, s. 76-90
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • This paper explores how workers in the women-dominated public sectorin Sweden speak about and make sense of gender and intragroup conflictand the consequences of this way of thinking and acting for genderequality at work. Using qualitative interviews with 26 first-level managersand employees, we introduce an analytical framework that employs criticaldiscourse psychology and the conceptualization of a postfeministsensibility at work. We identified three competing meanings (postfeministstorylines) of gender and intragroup conflict: Supporting the genderedmeanings of conflict, Unawareness of conflict’s gendered meanings andCounteracting the gendered meanings of conflict. The welfare workersacknowledged the role of gender in intragroup conflicts but, paradoxically, constructed their own workplaces as gender neutral, withoutinequalities related to gender. We interpret these three postfeminist storylinesas coping strategies; that is, as ways to make sense of the falsepromise of gender egalitarianism that characterizes the Swedish labourmarket.

  • Sexual and gender-based harassment against police employees in European countries : a scoping review
  • 2024
  • Ingår i: Journal of Sexual Aggression. - : Taylor & Francis. - 1355-2600 .- 1742-6545.
  • Forskningsöversikt (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Sexual and gender-based harassment is a work environment concern, especially in hierarchical and male-dominant organisations such as the police. This scoping review aims to examine the existing literature on such harassment against police employees in Europe to identify the available knowledge and highlight the gaps for future studies. Following the Arksey and O'Malley framework, 16 relevant articles were analysed. Most of the studies were focused on sexual harassment, and gender-based harassment was mostly absent or mixed with other discriminations. The analysis resulted in six main themes: existence of sexual and gender-based harassment; perpetrators; associated factors; consequences; individual response; and impact of organisational policies. The findings demonstrate that such harassment remains prevalent among police employees, emphasising the need for continuous and rigorous supervision, evaluation, and comprehensive revision of policies by police authorities. This study recommends further research to address the identified gaps in this field.PRACTICE IMPACT STATEMENTThe findings presented in this article have the potential to significantly advance the field of police research in Europe by providing a comprehensive map of existing knowledge and identifying important gaps within this research domain. Moreover, the study facilitates the application of more accurate and comprehensive methodologies. Additionally, the outcomes of this research can directly benefit police authorities by offering insights to enhance organizational culture and the work environment for police employees.

  • Policy Changes in Community Mental Health : Interventions and Strategies Used in Sweden over 20 Years
  • 2017
  • Ingår i: Social Policy & Administration. - : John Wiley & Sons. - 0144-5596 .- 1467-9515. ; 51:1, s. 95-113
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • The deinstitutionalization of mental health care has changed the responsibilities of involved authoritiesand has led to a continuous need for new treatment forms and interventions. This articledescribes this development in Europe, and in particular how these new conditions have been handledin Sweden over the past 20 years at the level of governmental policy-making. Three major policydocuments from 1994, 2009 and 2012 were included in this study. To increase our understandingof the policies’ contents, we have used theoretical concepts concerning governance, implementation and political risk management. Although our main interest was to find out howthe government handles interventions for users of the mental health care system, we found that thepolicy work is progressing stepwise. The first document, from the deinstitutionalization era, did notdiscuss interventions clearly. Instead, it was mainly concerned with both practical and economicalareas of responsibility. The second document, from the post-deinstitutionalization era, was morefocused on what services should be delivered to the users, while the most recently published documentto a greater extent addressed the question of how the support is supposed to be designed. The trendin European community mental health policy has been to advocate services in open forms that areintegrated into the society’s other care systems. This is also the case in Sweden, and continuous workis being done by the government to find strategies to support the development, and to meet the needs atboth political and local levels.

  • To use a recipe - not a piece of cake. Students with mild intellectual disabilities' use of recipes in home economics.
  • 2014
  • Ingår i: International Journal of Consumer Studies. - : Wiley. - 1470-6423 .- 1470-6431. ; 38, s. 412-418
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Recipes are not only part of today's cooking culture, they are also part of the Swedish syllabus of home economics. The aim of this study was to investigate what kinds of difficulties students with mild intellectual disabilities have using recipes during cooking lessons in home economics. We conducted an ethnographically inspired approach, with a total of 44 h of accompanying observations. Three compulsory schools for students with intellectual disabilities were enrolled in the study, and 37 students and three teachers were included. The socio-cultural theory of learning has been used as a theoretical framework. The findings reveal both that recipes are central artefacts during the cooking lessons and that the students have various difficulties using the recipes. The difficulties vary, and they concern both how the recipes are designed and the purport of the recipes. Difficulties in relation to the design included, for example, the separation of ingredients and instructions in the text and the large amount of information given in both the whole and the parts of the recipes. The difficulties in relation to the purport – that is, the meaning or sense of the recipe – were the ingredients, the kitchen utensils and the knowledge of how to perform a specific task. These difficulties can be considered special in relation to the use of the recipes. We suggest the concept of ‘recipe literacy’ to capture the complex knowledge of using recipes.

  • Legitimizing user knowledge in mental health services : Epistemic (in)justice and barriers to knowledge integration
  • 2022
  • Ingår i: Frontiers in Psychiatry. - Lausanne : Frontiers Media S.A.. - 1664-0640. ; 13
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Including the voices and knowledge of service users is essential for developing recovery-oriented and evidence-based mental health services. Recent studies have however, suggested that challenges remain to the legitimization of user knowledge in practice. To further explore such challenges, a co-production study was conducted by a team of researchers and representatives from user organizations in Sweden. The aim of the study was to explore the barriers and facilitators to the legitimacy of user knowledge, as a central factor in sustainably implementing user influence in mental health practice. A series of workshops, with representatives of mental health services and user organizations were conducted by the research team to explore these issues. The analysis built on the theoretical framework of epistemic injustice, and the underlying aspects, testimonial, hermeneutic and participation-based injustice, were utilized as a framework for a deductive analysis. Results suggest that this is a useful model for exploring the complex dynamics related to the legitimacy of user knowledge in mental health systems. The analysis suggests that the legitimacy of user knowledge is related to the representativeness of the knowledge base, the systematic formulation of this knowledge inapplicable methods, access to resources and positions within the mental health system and participation in the process of integrating this knowledge-base in mental health contexts. Legitimizing user knowledge in practice additionally challenges mental health systems to support readiness for change in working environments and to address the power and role issues that these changes involve. • At the Interplay Between Needs and Expectations : Regional Perspectives on Being an Intermediary Support Structure in Knowledge Governance
  • 2022
  • Ingår i: Nordic Journal of Social Research. - : Universitetsforlaget. - 1892-2783. ; 13:2, s. 1-15
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Introduction: During the last decade, structures for ‘knowledge governance’ as a means of strengthening the quality of social services has been used by the Swedish government and national authorities. In this process, regional collaboration and support structures (RCSSs) have been identified as a key asset as an intermediary link between national and local actors. The aim of this study was to explore the perspectives of these regional actors on expectations associated with being an intermediary support structure in knowledge governance processes in social services in Sweden. Methods: The study uses an abductive, qualitative approach, mainly with open questions in an empirical-driven manner (inductively) and partly in a theory-driven manner (deductively). Interviews with representatives from the RCSSs were used for data collection. Conventional content analysis with elements of directed content analysis of the data material was used. Results: A variety of expectations on RCSSs was reported from the national and local levels. According to the respondents, the feeling of inadequacy in relation to the perceived expectations was recurrent because the expectations were hard to meet. They also experienced role ambiguity and that their mission was unclear. Conclusions: The findings show that RCSSs seem to handle the situation by considering, assessing, and prioritising different actors’ needs and expectations in relation to their own perception of the intermediary mission. The findings also indicate a lack of a collective sense-making process with other key actors on different levels in the knowledge governance system. To reach the core purpose of knowledge governance, it is necessary to establish a common understanding of the relationship between expectations and prerequisites for facilitation between national, regional, and local actors.

  • Restaurant practices : time, planning, knowledge and dreams
  • 2017
  • Ingår i: Scandinavian Journal of Hospitality and Tourism. - : Taylor & Francis. - 1502-2250 .- 1502-2269. ; 17:3, s. 297-311
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • This paper contributes to research on restaurant work, which plays an important role in culinary arts research. The aim of this study was to make visible and elucidate the daily work practices in eight small restaurants in a seasonal tourist destination on the Southeast coast of Sweden. The central methods used were observations and participant observations and interviews, along with an e-mail questionnaire and examination of published information concerning all the restaurants. By means of practice theory, three central elements were used to identify and understand the configuration of the activities involved in daily work in small seasonal restaurants. These three elements, knowledge/competence, technologies/materiality and creation of meaning, formed four practices. The practices identified in this study were managing time and seasons; planning, strategising and controlling; knowing and having skills; and dreams and lifestyle. The conclusion of the study indicates that small restaurant practices may be conflicting, as they involve an extremely time-consuming workload, vague planning and lingering knowledge growth in contrast to the ideas of creativity and development that are a part of the restaurant owners’ dreams and lifestyle.

  • The importance of structural, situational, and psychological factors for involving hunters in the adaptive flyway management of geese
  • 2023
  • Ingår i: Scientific Reports. - : Nature Publishing Group. - 2045-2322. ; 13:1
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Adaptive flyway management of superabundant geese is emerging as a strategy to reduce damage to agricultural crops and other ecosystem disservices, while also ensuring sustainable use and conservation objectives. Given the calls for intensified hunting as part of flyway management in Europe, we need to increase the understanding of structural, situational, and psychological factors important for goose hunting among hunters. Our survey data, retrieved in southern Sweden, showed a higher potential to intensify hunting among goose hunters than other hunters. In response to hypothetical policy instruments (including regulations, collaborative, and others), hunters declared a minor increase in their intention to hunt geese, with the greatest expected increase among goose hunters should the hunting season be extended. Situational factors (e.g., access to hunting grounds) were associated with goose hunting (frequency, bag size, and intention to increase hunting). In addition, controlled motivation (derived from external pressures or to avoid guilt) and more importantly autonomous motivation (due to hunting being enjoyable or valuable) were along with goose hunter identity positively associated with goose hunting. Hunters’ involvement in flyway management may be encouraged by using policy instruments to remove situational barriers and facilitate their autonomous motivation.
