  • Introduction
  • 2023
  • Ingår i: Diedrich, Andreas & Czarniawska, Barbara (2023) (eds). Organising Immigrants' Integration - Practices and Consequences in Labour Markets and Societies. - Cham : Palgrave Macmillan. - 9783031268205
  • Bokkapitel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • This collection assembles studies that draw on a variety of approaches to the timely subject of immigrants’ integration into labour markets and societies. Its aim is to make a contribution to migration and integration research in general and management and organisation studies in particular. The authors include both conceptual reasoning and their own fieldwork to address the issues related to the processes of organising integration in practice, and their consequences—for immigrants and for organisers. The contributors are both experienced and younger scholars from various fields of social sciences. In their texts, they play with well-known concepts and ideas, but also introduce new ideas and metaphors, connecting migration and integration phenomena to the trials and tribulations of contemporary organising. Many different voices are heard in the stories told—voices of refugees, immigrants, public officials, private entrepreneurs, managers, and volunteers. Yet they all focus on processes, not on structures; on organising rather than on organisations—because integration may take place within as well as outside formal organisations.

  • Bokkapitel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • In recent years, the public sectors in many countries have been reformed many times, due to cycles of centralization and decentralization and many other restructurings. Several studies have shown an overall trend of increased managerialization of public administration, which has subjected public employees to complicated systems of measurements and reporting (Power, The audit society: Rituals of verification. Oxford University Press, 1999). Even when such changes were justified by the disruptiveness of external transformations like digitization, they have by no means been comparable in timing and scope to those caused by the recent COVID-19 pandemic. Over the past 70 years, no events have so broadly challenged—and in many respects reformed—the functionality and sustainability of the organization of professional work at the core of our welfare infrastructures. The effects of the COVID-19 pandemic are visible far beyond the public health sector. Employees within social services, family counseling, therapy, culture, education, migration, business support, research, and many other public services are experiencing dramatic, previously almost unthinkable challenges (Mazzucato & Kattel, COVID-19 and public-sector capacity. Oxford Review of Economic Policy, 36(1), 256–269, 2020). Media reporting and the first research reports (Banks et al., Practising ethically during COVID-19: Social work challenges and responses. International Social Work, 63(5), 569–583, 2020; Lemieux et al., Initial impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic on the Canadian labour market. Canadian Public Policy, 46(S1), 55–65, 2020; López-Cabarcos et al., New ways of working and public healthcare professionals’ well-being: The response to face the COVID-19 pandemic. Sustainability, 12(19), 80–87, 2020) describe major adjustments and challenges that governments, public sector organizations, and welfare occupations and professions have undergone to deal with the effects and consequences of the pandemic.

  • 2016

  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Although both rigor and reflexivity are counted among scientific virtues, following these virtues in practice—whether the practice of management or the practice of research—is more complex than it might seem. In what follows, I discuss some of those complexities. © 2016, © The Author(s) 2016.

  • 2018
  • Ingår i: Qualitative Research in Organizations and Management. - : Emerald. - 1746-5648. ; 13:2, s. 196-200
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Purpose The purpose of this paper is to point out a worrisome phenomenon and suggest some ways of dealing with it. Design/methodology/approach The paper is a historical analysis of references in organization studies. Findings The finding of this paper concludes that the proportion of women authors is low and is increasing very slowly. Research limitations/implications Some simple solutions may be applied, even if they alone will not solve the problem. Practical implications An appeal to use first name on reference lists and in texts (when appropriate). Social implications Better recognition of women's contribution to knowledge.

  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • In this conversation about the book The Republic of Tea, we discuss cultural connotations of the concept entrepreneur, possibilities of change through individual agency, and also entrepreneurship and marketing in terms of literary theory, and consequences of such a perspective for entrepreneurship research. On the way, we also experiment with a novel way of writing a scientifi c article.
