  • Patient-nurse anesthetist interaction during regional anesthesia and surgery based on video recordings
  • 2013
  • Ingår i: Journal of Perianesthesia Nursing. - : W.B. Saunders Co.. - 1089-9472 .- 1532-8473. ; 28:5, s. 260-270
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Purpose The purpose of this study was to interpret and describe the patient-nurse anesthetist (NA) interaction during regional anesthesia. Design Video recordings conducted during orthopedic surgery at a surgical clinic in Sweden formed the basis for the study, in which three patients and three NAs participated. Methods A hermeneutic analysis was conducted on the data. Finding The findings of the analysis demonstrated that the NA was in either “present” presence or “absent” presence in the awake patient's visual field during surgery. The NA's professional actions at times dominated the patient's existential being in the intraoperative situation. The findings conveyed insights about the patient-NA interaction that open up possibilities for nurses to understand and reflect upon their own practice in an expanded way. Conclusions Using video recordings for reflections enables development of professional skills that positively influence the care quality for patients during regional anesthesia.

  • An intraoperative caring model – the ’awake’ patient’s need for a genuine caring encounter
  • 2013
  • Ingår i: Clinical Nursing Studies. - : Sciedu Press. - 2324-7940 .- 2324-7959. ; 1:4, s. 23-35
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Anaesthesia nursing care during regional anaesthesia is characterized by the encounter between the ‘awake’ patient’s own lifeworld and the nurse anaesthetist’s knowledge in theory and in practice. This study aims to present an intraoperative caring model from the patient’s perspective that will facilitate nurse anaesthetists’ (NA) practice to enhance and support the ‘awake’ patient’s intraoperative well-being during surgery under regional anaesthesia. The model is underpinned by a synthesis based on interviews with patients, a philosophical reflection using Merleau-Ponty’s philosophy, and video recordings from orthopaedic surgeries under regional anaesthesia. The model can be used as a tool to encounter awake patients’ existential needs in the intraoperative situation and to further enlighten NAs about the possible impact of their proximity, interaction and communication behaviour in the delivery of intraoperative nursing care. The model can help NAs to access, understand and learn through lived experiences, thereby deepening their professional caring skills. The model is a way to get research knowledge ready for use by NAs to reflect on what gaps need to be filled between what nurses know (research) and do (practice).

  • What is the word for 'Engineering' in Swedish : Swedish students conceptions of their discipline
  • 2007
  • Rapport (övrigt vetenskapligt/konstnärligt)abstract
    • Engineering education in Sweden – as in the rest of the world – is experiencing a decline in student interest. There are concerns about the ways in which students think about engineering education, why they join an academic programme in engineering, and why they persist in their studies. In this context the aims of the Nationellt ämnesdidaktiskt Centrum för Teknikutbildning i Studenternas Sammanhang project (CeTUSS) is to investigate the student experience and to identify and support a continuing network of interested researchers, as well as in building capacity for disciplinary pedagogic investigation. The Stepping Stones project brings together these interests in a multi-researcher, multi-institutional study that investigates how tudents and academic staff perceive engineering in Sweden and in Swedish education. The first results of that project are reported here. As this study is situated uniquely in Swedish education, it allows for exploration of “a Swedish perspective” on conceptions of engineering. The Stepping Stones project was based on a model of research capacity-building previously instantiated in the USA and Australia (Fincher & Tenenberg, 2006).

  • Saras Sarasvathy : recipient of the 2022 Global Award for Entrepreneurship Research
  • 2023
  • Ingår i: Small Business Economics. - : Springer. - 0921-898X .- 1573-0913. ; 61, s. 1-10
  • Tidskriftsartikel (populärvet., debatt m.m.)abstract
    • Professor Saras Sarasvathy is the recipient of the 2022 Global Award for Entrepreneurship Research. Her research contributions have fundamentally changed and invigorated the conversation in the domain of entrepreneurship research. Sarasvathy's work on effectuation emphasizes how entrepreneurs operate based on available resources, think in terms of affordable loss rather than profit maximization, leverage trustworthy partnerships, and treat unforeseen contingencies as opportunities rather than problems. It has led and inspired a new generation of researchers in the quest for a better understanding of how entrepreneurs make their decisions and the unfolding of the entrepreneurial process.

  • Relationships among ERP post-implementation success constructs : An analysis at the organizational level
  • 2010
  • Ingår i: Computers in human behavior. - : Elsevier BV. - 0747-5632 .- 1873-7692. ; 26:5, s. 1136-1148
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Abstract: Enterprise resource planning (ERP) systems implementation success factors have been widely researched, however, few have investigated ERP post-implementation success in organizational contexts. The paucity of research Into ERP system success evaluations partly motivates this research To that end, the objective of this study is twofold First, it primarily investigates the relationships among six constructs or dimensions in a respecified ERP system success measurement model, which was developed from prior relevant frameworks. Second, this research adds to the body of knowledge in the information system (IS) success evaluation domain, especially with its focus on ERP packages The extended ERP system success model was tested using data collected in a cross-sectional field survey of 109 firms in two European countries Structural equation modeling (SEM) was used to test six relevant hypotheses. The SEM results showed that five out of the six hypotheses have significant, positive associations. Namely, the constructs of System Quality, Service Quality, Individual Impact, Workgroup Impact, and Organizational Impact have strong relevance in ERP success conceptualization, whereas Information Quality does not, at least, in the context of our data. The pertinence of the study's findings for IS success evaluation as well as its implications for practice and research are discussed.

  • Information technology strategy and alignment issues in health care organizations
  • 2013
  • Ingår i: Health Care Management Review. - : Lippincot Williams. - 0361-6274 .- 1550-5030. ; 38:3, s. 188-200
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Background: Information technology (IT) plays a key role in public health care management because it could improve quality, efficiency, and patient care. Researchers and practitioners repeatedly contend that a health care organization's information systems strategy should be aligned with its objectives and strategies, a notion commonly known as IT alignment.Purpose: Actor-related IT alignment issues in health care institutions were explored in this study. More specifically, it explores the possibility of moving beyond the current IT alignment perspective and, in so doing, explores whether IT alignment-as currently conceptualized in the dominant body of research-is sufficient for attaining improved quality, efficiency, and patient care in health care organizations. Methods: The findings are based on a qualitative and longitudinal study of six health care organizations in the Stockholm metropolitan area. The empirical data were gathered over the 2005-2011 period from interviews, a focus group, observations, and archival material.Findings: The data suggest recurrent misalignments between IT strategy and organizational strategy and operations due to the failure to deconstruct the IT artifact and to the existence of various levels of IT maturity. Conclusions: A more complex picture of IT alignment in health care that goes beyond the current perspective is being offered by this study. It argues that the previously common way of handling IT as a single artifact and applying one IT strategy to the entire organizational system is obsolete.Managerial Implications: The article suggests that considerable benefits can be gained by assessing IT maturity and its impact on IT alignment. The article also shows that there are different kinds of IT in medical care that requires diverse decisions, investments, prioritizations, and implementation approaches.

  • An Approach towards using Agent in Multi-Agent Systems to streamline emergency services
  • 2008
  • Ingår i: Proceedings of 5th International Conference on Information Technology and Applications. - Cairns, Austrailia. - 9780980326727
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • In emergency services, the evaluation of a situation is performed, manually, which includes synchronizing the services for each situation. However, the work requires divergent and decisive decisions resolved from several points of views, which would benefit from automating parts of the work. Using computer systems in life-critical domains can nvolve careful consideration of the work practice and of the situation components. In this paper, we propose using agents, intelligent agents and meta-agents, to streamline emergency services. The intelligent agents respond to both static and dynamic input in a flexible and structured way and perform required actions. From these actions, the meta-agents are created in which the divisions of dynamic and static information have an impact on the structure of the calculations but also on the outcome produced by the meta-agents. As an example application, we provide a scenario of agents and meta-agents in multi-agent systems, where the meta-agents hold systemic properties. The scenario has a strong grounding in the emergency service domain, in which we highlight coordination issues related to the multi-agents and the meta-agents.
