• Mellan jaget och världen : Feminism och etik under nyliberala villkor
• 2019
• Doktorsavhandling (övrigt vetenskapligt/konstnärligt)abstract
• The overall purpose of this study is to investigate how the tension between feminism as an ethical and political project is brought into light under neoliberal conditions. More specifically, the aim is to, through 21 interviews with 12 self-defined left-wing Swedish feminists whose living conditions, political action and self-understanding are conditioned by the economic, political and ideological imprints of neo-liberalism, study potential joints and crimes between feminism and neoliberalism and how these relate to the tensions between ethics and politics that have been present long before the entry of neoliberalism on the scene. The analysis is largely done in close dialogue with the feminist political thinkers Wendy Brown, Nancy Fraser and Chantal Mouffe, all of whom have devoted themselves to the relationship between ethics and politics and the effects of neoliberalism on political movements and political subjectivity. It also engages in academic work on neoliberal subjectivity and ideology and progressive movements.

• Feminism as Power and Resistance : An Inquiry into Different Forms of Swedish Feminist Resistance and Anti-Genderist Reactions
• 2018
• Ingår i: Social Inclusion. - Lisbon, Portugal : Cogitatio Press. - 2183-2803. ; 6:4, s. 82-94
• Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
• This article explores how resistance and power are intertwined within the field of mainstream Swedish feminism, by analyzing some of its more visible expressions and strategies. These feminist resistance strategies could be described as circulating resistance (e.g., the #metoo campaign), public assemblies, the more subtle “disciplinary resistance”, and state feminism. The article illustrates how these different forms of resistance fuel different reactions from movements that reiterate different discourses of “anti-genderism”. In addition, some forms of feminism (state feminism and feminist disciplinary resistance) sometimes develop into, or overlap with, different technologies of power.

• Understanding Power and Performing Resistance: Swedish Feminists, Civil Society Voices, Biopolitics and “Angry” Men
• 2013
• Ingår i: NORA - Nordic Journal of Feminist and Gender Research. - : Informa UK Limited. - 0803-8740 .- 1502-394X. ; 21:4, s. 264-279
• Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
• This article discusses feminist resistance in relation to different concepts of power. In particular, it analyzes current debates within Swedish feminism in order to understand what perceptions of power and resistance are being harboured within these discussions. Within the Swedish feminist debate it has been suggested that the equality debate must be radicalized, creating real change instead of policy reports and political party programmes. Others, however, have argued that we must not abandon equality politics for “conflict, struggle and revolt”. This debate is discussed from different theories of power and resistance and we argue that different forms of power become entangled with different forms of resistance, thus creating manifold and messy forms of resistance.

• Electronic sport and its impact on future sport
• 2010
• Ingår i: Sport in Society. - Abingdon : Informa UK Limited. - 1743-0437 .- 1743-0445. ; 13:2, s. 287-299
• Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
• According to public health and media discourses, the mere mentioning of computer gaming (E-sport) as a form of sports might be considered subversive. As a matter of fact, the two practices are considered to be oppositional. Sports are often regarded as virtuous, whereas computer gaming is looked upon as a vice. In this light, the basic aim of this essay is to discuss and analyse the ‘sporting qualities’ of competitive computer gaming in relation to the definition of sport. The reasoning will also forecast the future of competitive computer gaming. How might this new form of ‘sport’ develop and what impact will it have on future sports in general? We answer the question by presenting three possible scenarios. Might it even be that we are standing on the threshold of a new phase in the evolution of sports?

• Skolformens komplexitet : elevers erfarenheter av skolvardag och tillhörighet i gymnasiesärskolan
• 2013
• Doktorsavhandling (övrigt vetenskapligt/konstnärligt)abstract
• The Swedish upper secondary education consists of different types of schools. One type of school is the upper secondary for pupils who have assessed as having an intellectual disability. The aim of this study is to increase the knowledge and understanding of pupils’ experiences of everyday life in school, and how they perceive the significance of their sense of belonging to this type of school. An additional aim of the study is to increase the knowledge about different ways of organizing the education and teaching. The collection of data started with a national questionnaire survey which was directed to headteachers at the schools. Based on the results from the survey five schools were selected. By participant observations at the schools and repeated interviews with 14 young women and 12 young men, the first person perspective has been studied and analysed through an interpretive approach. The analysis showed that knowledge about the schools different ways of organizing the teaching are of importance, to understand pupils’ diverse experiences of school life. As an example it has an impact on how the pupils evaluate different types of knowledge, but also how they view their future opportunities. Any clear connection between the schools different ways of organizing the education and teaching and pupils’ experiences of their sense of belonging to this type of school has not emerged. Instead pupils’ awareness, confidence, uncertainty, dejection and determination are to be seen as a framework of understanding, telling us about their experiences of their school affiliation. Together they demonstrate a complexity surrounding pupils’ situation, associated to both advantages and disadvantages in school, but also their thoughts about identity and how they perceive being categorized as deviant by others. The analysis also showed that expectations on the pupils, and their possibilities in the school context, are related to a special school culture and to gender differences.

• Primary healthcare nurses' experiences with motivational interviewing in health promotion practice
• 2011
• Ingår i: Journal of Clinical Nursing. - Oxford : Wiley-Blackwell. - 0962-1067 .- 1365-2702. ; 20:23-24, s. 3322-3330
• Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
• Aim. The aim of the study was to describe primary healthcare nurses’ experiences with motivational interviewing as a method for health promotion practice.Background. A person’s lifestyle has a major effect on his or her health. Motivational interviewing is one way of working with lifestyle changes in health promotion practice. The basic plan of motivational interviewing is to help people understand their lifestyle problems and make positive lifestyle changes. Motivational interviewing has been proven to be more effective than conventional methods in increasing patient motivation.Design. This study has a descriptive design and uses a qualitative method.Methods. Twenty nurses who worked in primary health care and actively used motivational interviewing in their work were interviewed. Qualitative content analysis was used to process the data.Results. The primary healthcare nurses’ experiences with motivational interviewing as a method of health promotion practice demonstrate that motivational interviewing is a demanding, enriching and useful method that promotes awareness and guidance in the care relationship. The results also show that motivational interviewing is a valuable tool for primary healthcare nurses’ health promotion practice.Conclusion. This study shows that motivational interviewing places several different demands on nurses who use this method. Those who work with motivational interviewing must make an effort to incorporate this new method to avoid falling back into the former practice of simply giving advice. Maintaining an open mind while implementing motivational interviewing in real healthcare settings is crucial for nurses to increase this method’s effectiveness.Relevance to clinical practice. The nurses in the study had a positive experience with motivational interviewing, which can contribute to the increased use, adaption and development of motivational interviewing among primary healthcare professionals. Increased motivational interviewing knowledge and skills would also contribute to promotion of health lifestyle practices.

• Research initiation based on idea-circles : from research object to co-actor
• 2012
• Ingår i: Disability & Society. - Oxfordshire, United Kingdom : Routledge. - 0968-7599 .- 1360-0508. ; 27:6, s. 879-882
• Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
• This article details an evaluation of a research project based on participatory research methods organized by the Swedish Disability Federation from 2008 to 2011. In Sweden there has been a lack of productive dialogue with the traditional academic world and the question was raised whether proposals for future research would be different if disabled people formulated them. Nine idea-circles with disabled participants and invited researchers from fields of interest close to the participants produced ideas, developed out of the life experience of being a disabled person. These ideas were developed into 72 research drafts that often reflected key advocacy areas, rather than operationalized research issues. The adjustment from the familiar discourse of political struggle to discussion of research was a complicated process for many. When asked to prioritize among areas for research, the representatives from the disability movement chose areas that are not stressed in mainstream disability research in Sweden.

• The framing of orthorexia nervosa in Swedish daily newspapers : A longitudinal qualitative content analysis
• 2016
• Ingår i: Scandinavian Sport Studies Forum. - Malmö : Malmö University. - 2000-088X. ; 7, s. 27-46
• Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
• This study explored and elucidated how orthorexia is framed in Swedish daily newspapers with a focus on characteristics of orthorexia. Key questions include: 1) how do the newspaper articles connect exercise with orthorexia? and 2) what trends in depicting exercise in relation to orthorexia do the newspaper articles represent over time? The method used was a longitudinal qualitative content analysis guided by the framing theory. We analyzed 166 articles published between 1998 and 2013. Our analysis revealed that orthorexia originally was framed as an eating disorder and subsequently included unhealthy exercise. Two trend shifts could be identified: in 2004, exercise was added as an element and in 2013 extreme exercise trends were described to influence the increase of orthorexia. The findings indicate that Swedish newspapers extend Bratman’s definition and depict orthorexia indiscriminately to describe a range of different behavioral characteristics. These results are discussed in terms of the idea of “healthism” and general health trends in society.

• Research ethics within the study : Fitness professionals’ talk of health and orthorexia nervosa
• 2014
• Ingår i: 4th International Conference on Qualitative Research in Sport & Exercise. ; , s. 37-37
• Konferensbidrag (övrigt vetenskapligt/konstnärligt)abstract
• Fitness center activities have gained popularity. One central role fitness staff members have is to help participants to become or maintain health and fitness. In recent years, a new phenomenon – orthorexia nervosa, which M.D. Bratman coined in the late 1990s – has emerged. He termed orthorexia as "a fixation on eating healthy food". Research has mentioned that participants in sports and fitness activities may be at higher risk of becoming orthorexic. Since the late 1990s, orthorexia has been noticed, also in Swedish newspaper articles. In so doing, the 'condition' has evolved to include fanatic exercise and eating behaviours. Fitness professionals might thus work with individuals that are considered to suffering from orthorexia. The purpose of this presentation is to elucidate and problematize ethical issues that are raised during the research that deals with personal trainers and group fitness instructors talk of health and orthorexia. The material will consist of four focus groups with 18 fitness professionals that work in Swedish fitness centers. It will be carried out as a qualitative study. This study raises ethical issues, including for instance: a) by focusing and giving attention to orthorexia, the study may contribute to categorizing "the problem", as well as enlarge it. This paradoxical situation as the aim is to contribute scientific knowledge that can problematize orthorexia; b) the challenge to manage and balance a critical approach without causing harm (e.g. introduce orthorexia to fitness professionals who might have an erroneous perspective of and/or have little knowledge about orthorexia) (cf. Halse & Honey, 2005).
