Social enterprises in Sweden : Unitis a successful social cooperative?

- This research explores Social Cooperatives focusing on what factors characterize a successful social cooperative. We apply a case for data collection. Semi-structured interviews and direct observation were used to collect qualitative data. A case on Unitis, a Swedish Social Cooperative, developed in 1998 with the main aim to create employment and to empower disable people by setting up a handicraft cooperative owning it together, has been conducted in its real life context. The results indicate that five factors are important for the success of the cooperative. Social well being and members empowerment, networking to identify and exploit business opportunities, financial independence by adapting innovative business ideas, independence from volunteers and trusting on sustainable own human resources and generation of economic wealth using it for the well being of the members. The research contributes to the literature and theoretical development on social enterprises by analysing a Swedish case based on successful factors to sustain social cooperatives. We suggest that networking with stakeholders can contribute to make social cooperatives visible and sustainable. Key Words: Social Enterprises, Unitis, Social Economy, Cooperatives, Sweden.

- The article is analyzing a problem of family resources in the family of single father with mental retardation upbringing two adolescents in the conditions of extreme poverty. Research methodology based on the model of the case study qualitative research within the phenomenological “life world” and hermeneutics approaches. The study has gotten whole description of the father’s “life world” and its structural and essential elements constituting it. It is shown that family “life world” is structured by experience of coping with the extreme poverty within the context of strong social exclusion, and is controlled by the father’s family story and has class socio-economic nature. Family resources such as: health, education, social context and economic conditions of the family and its members are characterized as being affected by different type of limitations and dependence on external “donor’s” sources. The discussion is lifting up the moral-ethical problem of special education and “universal” values and what role should they play in the process of structuring essential elements of ” the life world” experience in such families.

- This study employs a systematic mapping study to analysis publications on library performance evaluation with data envelopment analysis (DEA). The review is based on an extensive search in the academic literature including scientific Databases of Scopus and Web of science. 44 articles published between 1997 and 2018 were selected as the core of the study. The results show that the published studies are mostly conducted by specialists in economics, management, engineering, and hardly by library and information science specialists. Interestingly, a large number of the studies are conducted in Taiwan and the United States with a specific focus on performance evaluation of the university libraries. The findings of this study identify gaps in terms of the used techniques, methods, and processes about evaluating the performance of libraries. Identifying these gaps can help researchers in the library sciences to pay further attention to research about performance evaluating of the libraries. The study, further, identifies the key input and output variables in evaluating libraries' performance evaluation.

Haiku som didaktiskt verktyg i drama

- En hermeneutisk studie vars övergripande syfte är att bidra till förståelse av elevers och studenters möte med konstdidaktik och till ökad förståelse av Arts-based educational research, ABER. Haiku och berättelser används som redskap för att beskriva och undersöka lärande. Studien består av flera mindre studier och har sin utgångspunkt i avhandlingen ”Karneval i klassrum- kunskap på hjul. En studie av elevers möten med clown analyserade med narrativ metod och poetisk etnografi”(Silfver 2011). Avhandlingen visade att arbetet i konstformen gör elevernas reflektion djup, personlig och väcker frågor om identitet samt innebär ett bidrag till utvecklandet av ett konstdidaktiskt språk. I en fortsatt studie samlades berättelser om vändpunkter i clownarbetet hos lärarstudenter. Resultatet redovisades i en kollektiv dikt och korta berättelser. Den följande studien hade som syfte att undersöka studenternas syn på betydelsen av arbetet med estetiska lärprocesser, samt att undersöka haikuformen som ett språk för lärande. Forskningsfrågor: 1. Vad i arbetet med estetiska lärprocesser lyfter studenterna fram som orsaker till förändring? 2. Vilken förändring i förståelsen av fenomenet estetiska lärprocesser kom till uttryck i studenternas haiku. Studien genomfördes via workshops med förkolärarstudenter, avslutades med haikuskrivande. Resultat visar att upplevelse av orsak till förändring var praktiska görande som ledde till reflektion. Görandet kopplades till gruppens gemensamma arbete involverande sinnen, känslor och kropp. Ett holistiskt lärande. Förändring i förståelse bestod av upplevelse av frihet, identitetsskapande, nya insikter om metoder, förståelse för sinnenas betydelse för lärande, gemenskapen i gruppen stärktes. En berättelse skapades utifrån metaforen ”Resan”.
