- This chapter focuses on the early preparatory phase of the digital assistive technology (DAT) implementation process, and explores the challenges older people, healthcare personnel, healthcare managers, and IT-staff may experience. The chapter is based on two independent case studies, both part of longitudinal projects on DAT implementation in municipalities in Sweden and Norway. The two cases provide insights into DAT implementation and its challenges, in relation to four different categories: 1) complex innovation characteristics, 2) external policy and incentives, 3) organizational characteristics, and 4) individual characteristics. The chapter demonstrates that DAT does not only transform work practices and daily routines but also the entire healthcare profession, from being primarily concerned with caring and nursing to a profession involving technological skills. DAT implementation is about transformation, and may even be disruptive. Successful digitalization of healthcare needs a new mindset, new work practices, as well as new roles and professions.

- Integrationssatsningar riktade till nyanlända har kritiserats för att sakna likvärdighet och ha svag kunskapsbas. Krav har ställts på åtgärder för att höja kvaliteten på satsningarna. Den här artikeln handlar om det interprofessionella arbetet för att ta fram ett standardiserat, nationellt informationsmaterial för att förbättra samhällsorientering för nyanlända. I studien som genomförts följdes processen när olika yrkesgrupper tillsammans arbetade med att ta fram materialet om det svenska samhället. Analysen visar hur arbetet präglades av att de olika grupperna orienterade sig mot olika delmål: att skapa det vetenskapligt korrekt, det pedagogiskt förenklade, det politiskt neutrala eller det relevanta för de nyanlända.

- Internationalisation of higher education and teacher education has been a key issue since the 1990s and many universities still attempt to increase student mobility ever since. Much research has been done on the topic of internationalisation and higher education, including teacher education trying to show how a certain programme impacts on students’ learning, especially intercultural learning when it comes to programmes in teacher education. These studies are often directed towards programmes that last several months or a whole year. The focus of this study is rather to explore if and in what way experiences in a two-week field study can contribute to a student teacher’s intercultural learning and professional development. The findings of the research show that even a short field study has an important impact on the individual student teacher’s understanding of themselves and on awareness of teachers’ living and working conditions in a different culture like South Africa.

- This study explores the concept of historical empathy in the context of field trips for young pupils to a prehistoric heritage site in Sweden. The example discussed is a field trip to Vitlycke, a heritage and rock carving site with an associated reconstructed Bronze Age farm, where pupils had the opportunity to experience prehistory with all their senses. The study is based on the idea that historical empathy is a process that involves both cognitive and affective dimensions and that both dimensions are important for progress. The pupils were interviewed after the trip and their responses are related to the concepts of perspective recognition and care. The study shows how the cognitive and affective dimensions were interwoven in the pupils' reasoning and how the field trip contributed to an emotional and personal connection necessary for the development of historical empathy. This engagement led to a broadening and deepening of the pupils' cognitive understanding of Bronze Age life and living conditions, while the cognitive understanding of the historical context contributed to a framework in which they could use their imagination. The results also show the importance of giving pupils time to follow up on their experiences after visiting a heritage site.

- Kommuner, regioner och landsting utgör en betydande del av den svenska offentliga sektorn och tillhandahåller tjänster som är betydelsefulla för landets medborgare. Några exempel är vård av äldre och funktionshindrade, utbildning samt hälso- och sjukvård. Under senare år har den andel av verksamheten som tillhandahålls direkt av kommuner, regioner och landsting minskat. Istället har förekomsten av privata utförare ökat inom många områden. Eftersom den upphandlade verksamheten motsvarar stora belopp och omfattningen kontinuerligt ökar är det viktigt att dessa beställare ser till att de privata utförarna levererar verksamhet på överenskommet sätt och med utlovat resultat. Denna forskningsrapport syftar till att beskriva och förklara hur offentliga beställare styr privata utförare i olika styrsituationer avseende konkurrenssituationen och vilken verksamhet som upphandlas. Det empiriska materialet är insamlat genom intervjuer både med kommuner och med privata utförare.

- The conflicts in the Middle East are not confined to a geographical area but have both a global and a local dimension. International conflicts, crises and acts of terrorism have consequences in the classroom practice, partly because current events are part of the content in social studies subjects, but partly because an increasing number of pupils have personal experiences and/or personal views on different aspects of these conflicts, also in relation to nationalist, xenophobic, antisemitic and islamophobic discourses. The overall aim of this paper is to investigate and compare how the Middle Eastern conflicts and related topics are raised within Religious Education and Social Studies. Are there differences in content and ways of talking in Religious Education compared to Social Studies and, if so, how? What implications have different subject framings for discourses and perspectives and hence, what becomes possible to learn? The study is based on participatory classroom observations of Religious Education and Social Studies at Swedish upper secondary schools. Interviews with teachers and focus group interviews with pupils have been conducted. The analyses indicate that migration, terrorism, anti-semitism, and islamophobia were major themes raised in relation to the conflicts in both subjects. The experiences of pupils largely affected classroom discourse. However, there were differences between how the conflicts were framed and discussed. In Religious Education, it was more common for teachers to downplay conflict perspectives and emphasize empathy, similarities and existential features while in Social Studies there was greater focus on formal ways of dealing with conflicts in terms of regulations and institutions.

- Within the public sector great change efforts are currently made to meet future challenges. In the area of health care, change initiatives are implemented to enhance quality and efficiency. To this end, a lean change programme is being widely introduced in Sweden as well as internationally. The overriding aim of this study is to increase knowledge of what happens when change programmes, CP, such as lean are implemented in a healthcare organisation, HCO.Previous research has shown that the main obstacle to implementing CP in HCO:s is their complexity. However, the complexity has often been reduced, as different factors such as management, professions, organisation and control have been studied separately. To fully capture the complexity of the HCO the Actor Network Theory, ANT, was used in this study. In line with ANT, introducing lean can be described in terms of a translation process in which human and non-human actors are woven into a network. This approach allows for the incorporation of various factors in the study of a change process in a complex organisation. Drawing on ANT, this thesis explores how network constructions enable or impede change programmes.The approach is based on ethnographic monitoring of the implementation of lean in the Värmland county council public healthcare organisation. As a result of the holistic perspective, the study provides detailed descriptions of how complexity impacts on the implementation. It displays the relations enabling or impeding the implementation of CP and the methods actors use to establish and defend the relations.The contribution of the study is threefold. Empirically, the study monitors a HCO aiming to implement full-scale lean as philosophy, principle and tool. Methodologically, the study evaluates ANT as a methodological theory to study CP in a HCO. Finally, the domain-specific contribution of the study is its identification of the relations and methods that impact on lean deployment.
