- "Det behövs fler män i förskolan och skolan" är en vanlig uppfattning. i den här antologin diskuterar framstående forskare och praktiker bl. a. vad som ligger bakom ett sådant uttalande: varför behövs det fler män? Vad är det männen förväntas tillföra denna antaget kvinnliga värld och vad är det de inte alls förväntas ägna sig åt? Hur är det med pojkarana då? Medierna rapporeterar om att pojkar presterar sämre än flickor i skolan. pojakr upplevs som oroliga och mer krävande än flickor, de beskrivs både i förskola och i skola som "busiga" och "omogna". Sexistiska tillmälen, provokationer och våldshandlingar från pojkar sägs utgöra ett stort problem. Samtidigt finns en viss oro i debatten för att pojkar och det manliga skall marginaliseras genom övervikten av kvinnlig personal. Trots den livliga diskussionen har det hittills saknats svensk litteratur som mer specifikt behandlar maskulinitetsskapandet i förskoal och skola. (Från baksidestexten)

- Den svenska kommunala arbetsmarknadspolitiken har expanderat sedan 1990-talet. Kommunala arbetsmarknadsåtgärder kostar 5 miljarder, involverar 5 300 årsarbetare och 110 000 deltagare årligen. Enligt den senaste kunskapssammanställningen publicerad 2012 är kunskapen om vad som görs och uppnås begränsad. I artikeln sammanfattas kunskapsläget mellan 2012-17. Vi genomför en systematisk forskningsöversikt genom att kartlägga, redovisa och slutligen syntetisera litteraturen utifrån fyra teman: varför initieras kommunala arbetsmarknadsåtgärder, hur dessa organiseras, effekter för deltagarna samt hur det praktiska arbetet bedrivs. I artikeln dras följande slutsatser: forskningen är alltjämt begränsad, det finns få effektstudier, individualisering och decentralisering utgör centrala beståndsdelar och arbetsmarknadsåtgärderna har en tveksam kvalitet.

- Recruitment is one of the Swedish Armed Forces' (SAF) main challenges today. Recruiting more women into the organization is one of the organization's aims, as well as providing them with more opportunities for career development. The purpose of this article is to gain a deeper understanding of how female military officers perceive barriers and advantages on their way to higher leadership positions. A total of 10 women from a variety of backgrounds and positions in the armed forces were interviewed. Their ranks ranged from Captain to Colonel and they represented army, naval units and air force. The interviews were analysed using a Grounded Theory approach. The qualitative analysis resulted in two main themes: Supporting visibility of women as leaders and differentiation of women as leaders. The former concerns positive strategies on an individual and organizational level that support an increase in the number of female leaders in the SAF, and is a way of responding to political incitements and the SAF's fundamental values. The second concerns ways how women are portrayed as different and divergent from the male standard. The suggested model may be valuable in recruitment, educational settings and leader development of high-level military officers from a gender perspective.

- Nations that are raising retirement ages appear to work on the assumption that there is appropriate employment available for people who are expected to retire later. 'Gender, ageing and extended working life' challenges both this narrative, and the gender-neutral way the expectation for extending working lives is presented in most policy-making circles. The international contributors to this book - part of the Ageing in a Global Context series - apply life-course approaches to understanding evolving definitions of work and retirement. They consider the range of transitions from paid work to retirement that are potentially different for women and men in different family circumstances and occupational locations, and offer solutions governments should consider to enable them to evaluate existing policies. Based on evidence from Australia, Germany, Ireland, Portugal, Sweden, the United Kingdom and the United States, this is essential reading for researchers and students, and for policymakers who formulate and implement employment and pensions policy at national and international levels.

- The aim of this article is to study how problem definitions of gender equality affect the possible outcomes of gender equality initiatives. The Swedish Municipal Rescue Services were chosen as the empirical example because they offer a workplace where women are greatly under-represented despite years of gender equality efforts. The article analyses how reasoning around gender equality shapes and constructs problem formulations around gender and equality. This article contributes to the debate on the conditions of gender equality founded on gender equality definitions, and how this relates to the potential for change. The gender equality efforts within the Rescue Services are problematized based on Bacchi’s policy analysis model. We do so by analysing the applications attracted by a call for a gender equality initiative within the Municipal Rescue Services—A Fire Station for Everyone. The article argues that, to some extent, the problem definitions in this case undermine gender equality initiatives as they place women—whom they wish to recruit to the Rescue Services to make it more gender equal in a numerical sense—in a paradoxical position as both problem and solution. Nor do they problematize power issues. It is stated that the given problem descriptions do not leave a lot of room for change, but that the method used to analyse the problem descriptions can be an important tool for understanding why gender equality initiatives may struggle to achieve their intended objectives.

- This article discusses gender mainstreaming (GMS) as a strategy to implement gender equality in public work organizations by analysing discourse in terms of the theoretical notions of translation and circulation in organizations to shed light on how gender equality and the mainstreaming strategy are formulated in the documents which govern the Swedish fire and rescue services. More specifically, it looks at how the goals regarding gender equality are circulated and translated. The results show that gender equality as a practice is created in the translation of national goals in terms of the local context and its specific gender equality challenges. Furthermore, the article discusses how vague formulations in the documents are stabilized through circulation between the government and the public agency in question. The results indicate the central role played by maintaining stable translations over time and the presence of a double logic of change in the processes, as well as the importance of legitimizing gender equality initiatives.

- This volume addresses the current debate on extended working life policy by considering the influence of gender and health on the experiences of older workers. Bringing together an international team of scholars, it tackles issues as gender, health status and job/occupational characteristics that structure the capacity and outcomes associated with working longer. The volume starts with an overview of the empirical and policy literature; continues with a discussion of the relevant theoretical perspectives; includes a section on available data and indicators; followed by 25 very concise and unique country reports that highlight the main extended working life (EWL) research findings and policy trajectories at the national level. It identifies future directions for research and addresses issues associated with effective policy-making. This volume fills an important gap in the knowledge of the consequences of EWL and it will be an invaluable source for both researchers and policy makers.
