Anatomy of a 21st-century sustainability project: The untold stories

- What does a sustainability project look like in the 21st century? Not the glossy version, but the naked truth? Tired of manicured, over-theorised accounts of the ‘musts’ and ‘shoulds’ of sustainability transitions, we got to the bottom of things; actually, to the very bottom of the project hierarchy: the individual. Our point of departure is that projects are nothing but temporarily interconnected people. This means that if we don’t know what people do and what they think about their work, we will never be able to create a deeper understanding of the project, its rationale and future impact. Making use of the autoethnographic method, this book provides critical insights into what it’s like being part of a 21st-century project. Building on unfiltered first-hand contributions from 73 authors representing the five organs of a project’s anatomy – the brain (theoreticians), the skeleton (leaders), the limbs (strategists), the heart (local stakeholders) and the lungs (researchers) – the book covers all the important aspects of contemporary project-making: (1) projectification as a societal phenomenon; (2) sustainability as the main project buzzword; (3) transdisciplinarity as a hot working method; (4) economy as the invisible project propeller; (5) space as the contextual project qualifier; (6) gender and integration as the obstinate orphans of project-making; (7) trends as the villains of thoughtless project mimicry; (8) politics as the “necessary evil” of projects; and (9) knowledge production as the cornerstone of all project work. The book ends with an extensive critical analysis of what makes a project tick and how to avoid project failure. We infer that talking about project outcomes and impacts is just that… talking. What makes a difference is what can be done to the project in itself. Three important virtues – the ABC of project-making – emanate from this book’s 40 chapters: building good relationships (Affinity), having the guts to make a change (Bravery), and showing willingness to learn (Curiosity). These are the basis for the successful execution of future sustainability projects, where complexity, unpredictability and desperation will become a staple force to recon with. The original contribution of this book is to shed light on the silent triumphs and hidden pathologies of everyday project-making in an effort to elevate individual knowledge to a level of authority for solving the wicked – yet project-infused – problems of our time.

- Traditional approaches in the wide field of employment relations focused on a small and clearly delineated set of actors, such as trade unions and employers’ organizations, operating within the constraints given by formal, nationally confined institutions. It is becoming increasingly clear that traditional approaches are insufficiently able to account for employment relations processes and outcomes in a world wherein formal institutions are being rapidly transformed and partially dissolved, national boundaries become porous, and the sheer number of actors involved is increasing substantially. A shift in perspective is necessary, past the nationally bounded actor-institution dichotomy, towards an understanding of employment relations as fundamentally mediated by complex and emergent networks that connect a multitude of actors within and between countries.This volume provides a seminal starting point for such a paradigm shift by applying theories and methodologies from social network analysis to the study of employment relations. It develops a theoretical toolkit of mechanisms that operate within networks and shape employment relations processes and outcomes, such as wages, labour market policies and labour conflicts. It brings together insights from various projects that investigate the structure, functioning and impact of networks in employment relations through quantitative and qualitative methods. It will be of particular interest to students and scholars of employment relations across business and management, economics, political science, and sociology disciplines, as well as those interested in social networks. Managers, trade unions, employers’ organizations and state authorities at national and international levels will find it helpful in understanding how networks shape their world.

BiB 2010 - bedömningsinstrument inom behandling och forskning för missbruks- och beroendevården

- BiB 2010 är en sammanställning av information om bedömningsinstrument med relevans för behandling och forskning inom missbruks- och beroendevården. Gemensamt för alla instrument i boken är att de är översata till eller utvecklade på svenska. Redan 1998 publicerades en första sammanställning, BIB 1998, som svar på ett uttryckt behov av en översikt över användbara mätmetoder och bedömningsinstrument inom fältet. Behovet har inte minskat med åren, tvärt om. Att antalet instrument som inkluderats i denna utgåva är betydligt större jämfört med BIB 1998 vittnar om både ett större utbud och en minst lika stor efterfrågan efter strukturerade mätmetoder och skattningsverktyg. Samtidigt har också bredden i de instrument som anses relevanta för missbruks- och beroendevården ökat. Därför innehåller BiB 2010 både instrument som tydligt inriktar sig på missbruk eller beroende och instrument som fokuserar på exempelvis personlighet, kognitiva funktioner eller sociala relationer. BiB 2010 innehåller information om knappt 90 instrument för bedömning av individer, beskrivningar av insatser och organisatoriska förhållanden, skattning av utfall samt uppföljning av vård och behandling. Vår förhoppning är att boken ska bidra till ytterligare använding och utveckling av befintliga instrument samt att fler instrument översätts och anpassas för svenska förhållanden.

- Nations that are raising retirement ages appear to work on the assumption that there is appropriate employment available for people who are expected to retire later. - Med sikte på profession redovisar data från ”Femklöverprojektet”. Femklövern har följt studenter på fem akademiska yrkesutbildningar vid Linnéuniversitetet, från att de började sina studier fram till deras första två år i yrkeslivet. De utbildade sig till poliser, socionomer, personalvetare, bibliotekarier och idrottscoacher.De fem utbildningsprogrammen har i olika grad ambitionen att bli professionsutbildningar och vetter dels mot ämnesstudier, dels mot det direkt yrkesförberedande. Spänningen mellan universitetets krav och arbetsmarknadens förväntningar präglar både studiernas uppläggning och studenternas studiemotiv, men också hur studenterna uppfattar studiernas relevans för det yrkesliv som de ser framför sig.Ett viktigt tema är i vilken utsträckning yrkesutbildningarna förmedlat professionella inslag och förhållningssätt och hur dessa utvecklas under utbildningen och i arbetslivet. Vi har även strävat efter att fånga i vad mån programmens vetenskapliga bas har genomsyrat utbildningarna och i vilken grad studenterna tillägnat sig den. Författarna visar på en viktig trend i högskolans yrkesorienterade program. Allt fler utbildningsprogram som redan finns i högskolans regi utvecklar tydliga professionsanspråk. Samtidigt växer antalet yrkesorienterade utbildningar som vill nå högskolestatus. De resultat som här redovisas har därför betydelse och relevans långt utöver de fem yrkesutbildningar som ingick i Femklövern.
