  • Advances in Social Simulation : Looking in the Mirror
  • 2020
  • Proceedings (redaktörskap) (refereegranskat)abstract
    • This book presents the state-of-the-art in social simulation as presented at the Social Simulation Conference 2018 in Stockholm, Sweden. It covers the developments in applications and methods of social simulation, addressing societal issues such as socio-ecological systems and policy making. Methodological issues discussed include large-scale empirical calibration, model sharing and interdisciplinary research, as well as decision making models, validation and the use of qualitative data in simulation modeling. Research areas covered include archaeology, cognitive science, economics, organization science, and social simulation education. This collection gives readers insight into the increasing use of social simulation in both its theoretical development and in practical applications such as policy making whereby modelling and the behavior of complex systems is key. The book will appeal to students, researchers and professionals in the various fields.

  • Supporting African peace operations
  • 2012
  • Proceedings (redaktörskap) (övrigt vetenskapligt/konstnärligt)abstract
    • The Nordic Africa Institute, the Dag Hammarskjöld Foundation and the Norwegian Institute for International Affairs hosted a seminar in Uppsala, Sweden, on 15 and 16 December 2011, that brought together AU, EU and UN officials closely involved in peace operations in Africa. The seminar’s purpose was to allow participants to compare their experiences of the different support models that have been used to date in Sudan and Somalia. International support for African peace operations provides opportunities but also poses challenges. This report examines four of these challenges in some detail: the AU Commission’s limited capacity to plan and manage peace operations; insufficient political engagement by African member states with AU peace operations; the short-termism and self-interest of some of the AU’s partners; and the need for UN Security Council permanent members to value and ensure a shared AU-UN strategic vision. The report also includes policy recommendations for resolving these challenges.

  • Changing the Trajectory: Quality for Opening up Education : Official Proceedings of the International EIF / LINQ Conference 2014
  • 2014
  • Proceedings (redaktörskap) (refereegranskat)abstract
    • The international EIF / LINQ Conference 2014 addressed innovations and quality in lifelong learning, education and training: potential points of access to this field include new learning methods and design, technology-enhanced learning, quality standards and certification, human resources development, competences and skills, digital resources, learning materials, and online collaboration and communities in particular in the light of the European Commission’s Opening up education initiative launched in 2013.Thus, the book contributes to the current debate on one of the greatest challenges in today’s quality development for education and training: How to achieve quality for opening up education?

  • Cooperation and competition , C&C and JEP dissemination: : Health Care Quality Management: conference proceedings.
  • 2009
  • Proceedings (redaktörskap) (populärvet., debatt m.m.)abstract
    • “Co-opetition”, -co-operation for competition- is a key idea of this special issue of the IJHCQA, describes a situation in which independent departments, clinics, units or parties in health care sector co-operate with one another and co-ordinate their activities, thereby collaborating to achieve mutual goals which is patients’ satisfaction and health care quality assurance, but can at the same time compete with each other as well as with other health care providers. The basic philosophy underlying co-opetitive relationships is that all health care activities should aim for the establishment of mutually beneficial partnership relationships with other actors in the system, including competitors (Zineldin 2000, 2004). In short, the co-opetitive partners believe that their success does not require others to fail. They also have a philosophy that, in the spirit of trust and commitment, a win-win approach is the most effective way to assure the health care quality and patient safety. Good quality of care is considered to be the right of all patients and the responsibility of all involved actors in health care sector. Assuring the good health care quality is an ethical obligation of health care providers. Good-quality care makes, for example, contraception safer and more effective. Poorly delivered medical and health care services can cause infections, injuries, and even death. Poor services, in family planning clients and programs also can lead to incorrect, inconsistent, or discontinued contraceptive use and thus to unwanted pregnancies. Good-quality clinical services reduced clients' fears, increased their confidence in the care received, and generated loyalty to the clinic. In contrast, poor care can discourage women from seeking family planning or prompt clients to discontinue using family planning. Patients are more likely to feel safely the medical and health care provider is friendly, if they were satisfied with services, and if they had been told about the advantages and side effects of several treatment methods. Even health care staff members derive greater personal and professional satisfaction from their jobs when they can offer good-quality care and can feel their work is valuable. Some studies argue that the most satisfying aspect of physicians jobs was helping people and the community recognition they received for it.

  • Digital Libraries for Open Knowledge : 23rd International Conference on Theory and Practice of Digital Libraries, TPDL 2019, Oslo, Norway, September 9–12, 2019, Proceedings
  • 2019
  • Proceedings (redaktörskap) (refereegranskat)abstract
    • This book constitutes the proceedings of the 23rd International Conference on Theory and Practice of Digital Libraries, TPDL 2019, held in Olslo, Norway, in September 2019. The 16 revised full papers,12 short papers and 18 poster papers presented were carefully reviewed and selected from 75 submissions. The general theme of TPDL 2019 was Connecting with Communities and so the papers attempt to facilitate establishing connections and convergences between diverse research communities such as Digital Humanities, Information Sciences and others that could benefit from ecosystems offered by digital libraries and repositories. To become especially useful to the diverse research and practitioner communities digital libraries need to consider special needs and requirements for effective data utilization, management and exploitation.
