  • Come together-the development of Swedish energy communities
  • 2019
  • Ingår i: Sustainability (Switzerland). - Basel : MDPI AG. - 2071-1050. ; 11:4
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Community energy (CE) and grassroots innovations have been widely studied in recent years, especially in the UK, Germany, and the Netherlands, but very little focus has been placed on Sweden. This paper describes and analyses the development and present state of several types of community energy initiatives in Sweden. The methodology uses interviews, document studies, analysis of previous studies, and website analysis. The results show that fewer initiatives have been taken in Sweden than in other countries, but that even with a rather 'hostile' institutional setting CE has emerged as a phenomenon. Wind cooperatives are the most common form of initiative, with solar photovoltaics cooperatives and eco-villages also prominent. The various types of initiatives differ considerably, from well-organized wind cooperatives that have grown into professional organizations to small-scale hydroelectric power plants owned by a rural community. The initiatives may have modest impact on the energy transition in quantitative terms, but they are crucial in knowledge sharing and as inspirations for future initiatives.

  • Retirement Return Migration from Sweden
  • 2006
  • Ingår i: International migration (Geneva. Print). - Oxford : Blackwell Publishing. - 0020-7985 .- 1468-2435. ; 44:2, s. 153-180
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • This study deals with return migration among immigrants in Sweden who are between 51 and 80 years old. An important question regards the impact of retirement on return migration. Some circumstances connected to the withdrawal from the labour market suggest an increased propensity to return, such as the transition from a wage income to a pension, which weakens the link between place of residence and income. In addition, patterns of return migration at the end of working life may indicate whether or not temporary migration is a planned strategy. It is found that when reaching the age of 65, the legal retirement age in Sweden, the probability of return migration increases, in particular for men. The effect of retirement is immediate; the probability of return migration declines again beyond the age of 65, indicating a conscious plan to return to the home country when the labour market career is over. Furthermore, immigrants who receive early retirement compensation have a considerably higher probability of return migration compared to those who are not retired. These clear “retirement effects” show that return migration can be an important ingredient in the welfare optimization strategies of migrants. When it comes to income selectivity, the analysis shows that there is a positive selection, something that is expected when migrants are target savers with a temporary migration strategy.

  • Analyzing the functional dynamics of technological innovation systems : A scheme of analysis
  • 2008
  • Ingår i: Research Policy. - : Elsevier BV. - 0048-7333 .- 1873-7625. ; 37:3, s. 407-429
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Various researchers and policy analysts have made empirical studies of innovation systems in order to understand their current structure and trace their dynamics. However, policy makers often experience difficulties in extracting practical guidelines from studies of this kind. In this paper, we operationalize our previous work on a functional approach to analyzing innovation system dynamics into a practical scheme of analysis for policy makers. The scheme is based on previous literature and our own experience in developing and applying functional thinking. It can be used by policy makers not only to identify the key policy issues but also to set policy goals. © 2007 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.

  • Launching the Mission for 100 Climate Neutral Cities in Europe : Characteristics, Critiques, and Challenges
  • 2022
  • Ingår i: Frontiers in Sustainable Cities. - Lausanne, Switzerland : Frontiers Research Foundation. - 2624-9634. ; 3
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • The purpose of this perspective article is to critically explore the launch of the mission for 100 climate neutral cities in Europe. An overview of the mission approach in general is first presented, where key aspects and emerging critiques are identified. Second, key elements of the mission for 100 climate neutral cities in Europe are introduced along with some of its challenges and ambiguities. This perspective article ends with highlighting key emerging questions from the report “100 Climate Neutral Cities by 2030 – by and for the citizens” where research and practice need to engage to support municipalities and urban actors in efforts on climate neutrality and help to better navigate toward radical social and technical transformation. This perspective article also proposes two approaches for inclusive participation of citizens and stakeholders that can contribute to the local implementation of the mission for 100 climate neutral cities.

  • Den välfungerande arbetsgruppen – version 2.0 : om beteenden, tankar, processer och strukturer som leder till god gruppfunktion
  • 2016
  • Rapport (övrigt vetenskapligt/konstnärligt)abstract
    • The purpose of this report is to present a critical review of research and practice based knowledge about factors conductive to ”good functioning” of working groups in the light of the evolving and changing knowledge of developmental processes in groups. Conceptions of work group effectiveness are critically evaluated and new formulations presented. Factors such as two-way causality, theoretically based, definitions of team goals, time spans, feedback loops and the importance of the working group´s socio-ecology are stressed. The analysis results in an integrative model taking into account developmental, group and goal types, process/structure and socioecological context factors. Finally eight central issues for future research are presented.

  • Well-Being of Early-Career Researchers: Insights from a Swedish Survey
  • 2019
  • Ingår i: Higher Education Policy. - : Springer Science and Business Media LLC. - 0952-8733 .- 1740-3863. ; 32:2, s. 273-296
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Several studies have documented the importance of optimal work situation and the general well-being of early-career researchers (ECRs) for enhancing the academic performance of universities. Yet, most studies focused on specific categories of ECRs, or on specific academic disciplines as well as on specific outcomes. With this study, we recognize the need for a broader sample encompassing different categories of ECRs across academic disciplines. In a national survey of Swedish universities, the National Junior Faculty of Sweden (NJF) collected data from ECRs in order to study the influence of work situation and well-being on perceived scientific environment. We observed that work situation and well-being are interdependent and jointly influence each other in shaping the conditions for ideal scientific environment. Importantly, we employ structural equation model (SEM) analysis to account for the endogenous relationship between work situation and personal well-being in predicting perceived scientific environment. Results from SEM indicate that support from the university, work time management, job clarity, contract length and quality of life satisfaction were related to the perceivedpossibility of conducting the best science. Our research also highlighted individual differences across demographic factors and contract length in the perceived work situation and the possibility of conducting the best science.

  • Three Decades of Climate Mitigation: Why Haven't We Bent the Global Emissions Curve?
  • 2021
  • Ingår i: Annual Review of Environment and Resources. - : Annual Reviews. - 1543-5938 .- 1545-2050. - 9780824323462 ; 46, s. 653-689
  • Forskningsöversikt (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Despite three decades of political efforts and a wealth of research on the causes and catastrophic impacts of climate change, global carbon dioxide emissions have continued to rise and are 60% higher today than they were in 1990. Exploring this rise through nine thematic lenses-covering issues of climate governance, the fossil fuel industry, geopolitics, economics, mitigation modeling, energy systems, inequity, lifestyles, and social imaginaries-draws out multifaceted reasons for our collective failure to bend the global emissions curve. However, a common thread that emerges across the reviewed literature is the central role of power, manifest in many forms, from a dogmatic political-economic hegemony and influential vested interests to narrow techno-economic mindsets and ideologies of control. Synthesizing the various impediments to mitigation reveals how delivering on the commitments enshrined in the Paris Agreement now requires an urgent and unprecedented transformation away from today's carbon- and energy-intensive development paradigm.

  • "Sexual pleasure on equal terms": Young women´s ideal sexual situations
  • 2012
  • Ingår i: Journal of Psychosomatic Obstetrics and Gynaecology. - : Informa Healthcare. - 0167-482X .- 1743-8942. ; 33:3, s. 129-134
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Purpose: We wanted to identify young women’s ideal images of sexual situations and expectations of themselves in sexual situations. Methods: We conducted audiotaped qualitative individual interviews with 14 women aged 14 to 20 years, visiting two youth centers in Sweden. The data were analyzed with constant comparative analysis, the basis of grounded theory methodology. Results: The women’s ideal sexual situations in heterosexual practice were characterized by sexual pleasure on equal terms, implying that no one dominates and both partners get pleasure. There were obstacles to reaching this ideal, such as influences from social norms and demands, and experiences of the partner’s “own race”. An incentive to reach the ideal sexual situation was the wish to experience the source of pleasure. Conclusions: Our research further accentuates the importance of finding ways to focus on the complexity of unequal gender norms in youth heterosexuality. A better understanding of these cognitions is essential and useful among professionals working with youths´ sexual health.
