  • Key aspects of free and open source enterprise resource planning systems
  • 2012
  • Ingår i: Free and Open Source Enterprise Resource Planning: Systems and Strategies. - : IGI Global. - 9781613504864 - 1613504861 - 9781613504871 ; , s. 1-17
  • Bokkapitel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • This chapter introduces basic differences between Free/Open Source Enterprise Resources Planning systems (FOS-ERP) and Proprietary ERP (P-ERP), revisiting the previous work of Carvalho (2008). Taking into account that some years has passed and the economic downturn came, it updates key aspects of FOS-ERP under both vendor and adopter perspectives. Like its predecessor, this chapter contributes to broaden the discussion around FOS-ERP, showing that its differences from its proprietary counterpart go beyond the cost factor.

  • Once upon a time in Västmanland : the power of narratives or how the “truth” unfolds
  • 2016
  • Ingår i: ISCRAM 2016 Conference Proceedings. - : ISCRAM. - 2411-3387. - 9788460879848
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • In 2014 a small fire started in a forest in central Sweden. Within a few days it developed into the largest wildfire in Sweden in the last 50 years. As the scale of the fire increased, so did the need for direction and coordination of the resources engaged in the response operation. Both official investigators and the research community have studied the challenges and come up with recommendations for improvements of the Swedish crisis management system. All authors of this paper have been involved in such efforts. This paper is a result of us trying to formulate lessons learnt based on several written reports and official discussions. The development of the narratives constructed by individuals involved in the response, investigators and researchers is analyzed. We conclude that researchers need to pay attention to their own role in this development. Maybe there is a need for a game changer on the methodological side?

  • Achieving Circular and Efficient Production Systems : Emerging Challenges from Industrial Cases
  • 2021
  • Ingår i: Advances in Production Management Systems. Artificial Intelligence for Sustainable and Resilient Production Systems. - Cham : Springer. - 1868-4238 .- 1868-422X. - 9783030859091 - 9783030859121 - 9783030859107 ; , s. 523-533
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • As the need for more responsible production and consumption grows quickly, so does the interest in the concepts of eco-efficiency and circularity. To make swift progress towards sustainability, solutions must be developed and deployed at scale. It is therefore critical to understand the challenges faced by industry to accelerate the uptake of best practices for circular and efficient production systems. This paper presents the emerging issues from three industrial pilots in an on-going collaborative project. We discuss and suggest further work around crucial questions such as: How to deploy circular solutions from lab to industrial scale? How can digitalization support efficient circular processes?.

  • Living Requirements Space An open access tool for enterprise resource planning systems requirements gathering
  • 2010
  • Ingår i: Online information review (Print). - : EMERALD GROUP PUBLISHING LTD. - 1468-4527 .- 1468-4535. ; 34:4, s. 540-564
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Purpose - This paper aims to discuss a new tool for requirements gathering in the Web 2.0 era. It seeks to investigate the features that this kind of tool should have in order to be as widely applicable and useful as possible. Further, it aims to explore the extent to which business requirements for enterprise resource planning (ERP) systems can be collected and discussed collaboratively in a worldwide community of business process experts. Design/methodology/approach - The paper is a combination of empirical research, hermeneutics and design research. Findings - The proposed Living Requirements Space (LRS) platform has the potential of becoming an international forum for collecting and discussing business requirements for ERP systems. Practical implications - The LRS platform will allow ERP developers, ERP systems implementers, and academics to better understand the evolution of business requirements for ERP systems. It will create a knowledge base of ERP business requirements, that is, a repository that guarantees open and unrestricted access to content. It will thus allow for more international ERP systems and far more comprehensive education on and understanding of business processes and ERP systems. Originality/value - LRS is an open access tool that allows for the gathering of ERP systems requirements in a vendor-and project-independent approach that is unbiased towards any geographic region.

  • Towards more flexible enterprise information systems
  • 2012
  • Ingår i: Enterprise Information Systems of the Future : Lecture Notes in Business Information Processing, vol 139 - Lecture Notes in Business Information Processing, vol 139. - Berlin, Heidelberg : Springer Berlin Heidelberg. - 1865-1356 .- 1865-1348. - 9783642366109 - 9783642366116 ; , s. 157-164
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • The aim of this paper is to present the software development techniques used to build the EIS Patterns development framework, which is a testbed for a series of techniques that aim at giving more flexibility to EIS in general. Some of these techniques are customizations or extensions of practices created by the agile software development movement, while others represent new proposals. This paper also aims at helping promoting more discussion around the EIS development questions, since most of research papers in EIS area focus on deployment, IT, or business related issues, leaving the discussion on development techniques ill-treated.

  • Management of Information Systems Outsourcing: Challenges and Lessons Learned
  • 2011
  • Ingår i: [Host publication title missing].
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • To be successful in Information Systems (IS) outsourcing the necessity of better management practices has been pointed out. This research contributes to the knowledge base on management of IS outsourcing by addressing management of IS outsourcing relationships. The research describes two cases of IS outsourcing relationships that differ in type of activity outsourced, IS development versus IS maintenance and operation, and relationship composition. From the cases lessons learnt are identified which with support from IS outsourcing literature are proposed as propositions for management of IS outsourcing. It can be concluded that if the propositions, related to negotiation, communication and way of working, are adopted in an early stage they could contribute to successful IS outsourcing relationships. Another conclusion is that the IS outsourcing management approach should not differ between type of IS activity outsourced, but rather reflect the nature of the IS activity; if it is a simple or complex activity

  • IS/ICT Outsourcing Decision Project in a Large Public Organization: A Case Study
  • 2011
  • Ingår i: Journal of Decision Systems. - : Informa UK Limited. - 2116-7052 .- 1246-0125. ; 20:2, s. 137-162
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • We describe and discuss an outsourcing decision project, in which a large public organisation decided to outsource its ICT and IS. Different phases and critical steps in the project are highlighted, and some critical issues are identified. First, it is clear that there were different definitions of “hosting” and these different definitions made it unclear what the project was about. The desired project outcome thus became unclear, which affected commitment during the project as well as commitment to the outcome of the project. It also led to the project plan having to be rescheduled and the project costs increased. Second, our analysis also shows that there were unclear descriptions of how hosting was currently made in the organisation. This resulted in several problems in the project, in particular, in making proposals from potential providers hard to evaluate. But, also some positive results, such as a clearer picture of what resources existed, was gained. The study suggests that, had there been, at the outset of the project, a clear understanding of (1) what the project was really about, (2) the project’s role in increasing control and decreasing costs, and (3) how the hosting was to be implemented, a lot of the difficulties could have been avoided.
