  • Outdoor Office Work : An Interactive Research Project Showing the Way Out
  • 2021
  • Ingår i: Frontiers in Psychology. - : Frontiers Media SA. - 1664-1078. ; 12
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • The physical boundaries of office work have become increasingly flexible. Work is conducted at multiple locations outside the office, such as at clients' premises, at home, in cafés, or when traveling. However, the boundary between indoor and outdoor environment seems to be strong and normative regarding how office work is performed. The aim of this study was to explore how office work may be conducted outdoors, understanding how it is being experienced by office employees and identifying its contextual preconditions. Based on a two-year interactive research project, the study was conducted together with a Swedish municipality. Fifty-eight participants engaged in the collaborative learning process, including 40 half-day workshops and reflective group discussions, co-interviews, and participants' independent experimentation of bringing work activities outdoors. Data was collected via interviews, group discussions and a custom-made mobile application. The results showed that a wide range of work activities could be done outdoors, both individually and in collaboration with others. Outdoor work activities were associated with many positive experiences by contributing to a sense of well-being, recovery, autonomy, enhanced cognition, better communication, and social relations, but also with feelings of guilt and illegitimacy. Conditions of importance for outdoor office work to happen and function well were found in the physical environment, where proximity to urban greenspaces stood out as important, but also in the sociocultural and organizational domains. Of crucial importance was managers' attitudes, as well as the overall organizational culture on this idea of bringing office work outdoors. To conclude, if working life is to benefit from outdoor office work, leaders, urban planners and policymakers need to collaborate and show the way out.

  • Searching for Situational Patterns in Cannabis Dealing, Possession and Use in a Scandinavian Context
  • 2023
  • Ingår i: International Criminology. - : Springer Nature. - 2662-9968 .- 2662-9976. ; 3:3, s. 222-238
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Although cannabis is the most frequent illicit drug consumed in Sweden, little is known about the situations in which cannabis trade, possession and use occur. Following a recent strand of international research on the effect of recreational drugs on crime, this study uses a unique specially tailored database, Geographical Information Systems (GIS) and regression models, to investigate the situational conditions of cannabis offenses as they are detected in Stockholm, Sweden. Cannabis coincides with the location of drug markets initially delimited by the police but also extends over to locations far from the radar of the police, such as private residences (comfort places). Modeling results indicate that several land uses (convergent public places) have significant predictive value of the geography of cannabis offenses after controlling for other neighborhood characteristics. The article finishes by stating new research questions and making recommendations for practice.

  • The Use Of Information And Communication Technology Among Older Immigrants In Need Of Home Care : A Systematic Literature Review
  • 2021
  • Ingår i: Ageing International. - : Springer Nature. - 0163-5158 .- 1936-606X.
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Better home care and home care technologies are no longer requested solely by nonimmigrant older adults but also by members of the fast-growing older adult immigrant population. However, limited attention has been given to this issue, or to the use of technology in meeting the needs of aging populations. The objective of this review is to map existing knowledge of older adult immigrants' use of information and communication technologies for home care service published in scientific literature from 2014 to 2020. Twelve studies met the established eligibility criteria in a systematic literature search. The results showed older adult immigrants faced similar barriers, which were independent of their ethnic backgrounds but related to their backgrounds as immigrants including lower socioeconomic status, low language proficiency, and comparatively lower levels of social inclusion. Technology use could be facilitated if older adult immigrants received culturally-tailored products and support from family members and from society. The results imply that the included studies do not address or integrate cultural preferences in the development of information and communication technology for home care services. Caregivers might provide an opportunity to bridge gaps between older immigrants' cultural preferences and technology design. This specific research field would also benefit from greater interest in the development of novel methodologies.

  • Incentives in Swedish commercial real estate companies : the property manager function
  • 2017
  • Ingår i: Property Management. - : Emerald Group Publishing Limited. - 0263-7472 .- 1758-731X. ; 35:2, s. 150-164
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Purpose: The purpose of this paper is to identify factors on the property management level for analysing incentives for an effective property management with a focus on organising it in-house. Design/methodology/approach: This research is based on an interview study of 11 firm representatives from the Swedish commercial real estate sector with in-house property management. Findings: The study concludes that the property management organisation in the in-house setting is governed in an informal way, with a large portion of “freedom with responsibilities” setup instead of regulations. Research limitations/implications: The research in this paper is limited to the Swedish commercial real estate sector. Practical implications: The insights into the paper regarding how decision makers create incentives for the property management organisation can provide inspiration to design incentives for effort. Originality/value: It provides an insight regarding how the commercial real estate industry prioritises different work tasks and how incentives are created to enable effort.

  • From swings, through physics, with pendulums, to gendering : Re-turning diffractive analyses on science and gender in preschool
  • 2021
  • Ingår i: Reconceptualizing Educational Research Methodology. - : OsloMet - Oslo Metropolitan University. - 1892-042X. ; 12:2, s. 21-43
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • In this paper we re-turn (Barad, 2014) parts of the diffractive analyses conducted in a research project on science and gender in preschool (Günther-Hanssen, 2018, 2020; Günther-Hanssen, Danielsson, & Andersson, 2020). In our first re-turning, we explore how a swing and scientific phenomena in the data co-created the knowledge construction in entanglements with the researcher. To do this, we engage with how embodiment and re-actualized experiences of swinging came to matter. We then re-turn how certain events in the data are always part of other events, both in time and space. For this task, we elaborate with writing different situations from the data through one another. As we continue re-turning the analysis, new diffraction patterns emerge with each turn. By the end of the paper, our diffractive writings and readings have been re-turned into explanations of how pendulums can be used to think-with and approach gendering in preschool.

  • A dialogue map of leader and leadership development methods : A communication tool
  • 2020
  • Ingår i: Cogent Business & Management. - : Cogent OA. - 2331-1975. ; 7:1
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • The dialogue map is a new pedagogical framework that provides an overview of leader and leadership development methods and is designed to facilitate dialogues about how to promote leadership development. The aim was to create and test a dialogue map. This was accomplished through an iterative process using the literature, experts on leadership development, 45 interviews, 16 questionnaire responses and 6 workshops in three large organizations with managers, professionals and human resources experts. The dialogue map is designed as a table with five categories: developmental relationships, developmental assignments, feedback-intensive processes, education and self-development activities. Each category consists of individual leader development methods and collective leadership development methods. Thirty three methods are presented. The pilot test showed that the dialogue map increased awareness about available methods and enabled more deliberate choices regarding development activities. The dialogue map contributes by providing a systematic overview of collective leadership development, not only individual leadership development. Leadership development becomes more democratized because it focuses on activities that can be done in daily work, inside and outside work, at both an individual and collective level.

  • Gender theory and the family business
  • 2015
  • Ingår i: Theoretical Perspectives on Family Businesses. - Cheltenham : Edward Elgar Publishing. - 9781783479665 - 9781783479658 ; , s. 191-210
  • Bokkapitel (övrigt vetenskapligt/konstnärligt)abstract
    • Gender theory started with understanding and explaining women’s role in society and now also includes men and masculinities. It has recently been adapted to family business research. This chapter will briefly introduce gender theory and its development, before reviewing how it has been used in family business research. Arguing that the family business context is suitable in studying gender phenomena, the chapter outlines several ways through which gender theory could yield new insights into the issues of how family business structures, settings and practices produce relations of power or asymmetry. A common approach so far to the study of gender in family business situations is to consider ‘gender as a variable’, which maintains the categorisation of women and men as a relevant and unproblematic variable. Many analyses of family businesses that also address gender, focus on feminist ‘standpoint positions’, giving voice to women’s unique experiences. Often in family business research, the dominant approach is to think of gender in terms of limited male/female distinctions rather than by reframing family business through critical positions, with the aim of reflection and sensitivity towards gender issues in terms of the socially constituted patterns that are produced through male/female, masculine/feminine distinctions. In the conclusion, the chapter suggests a possible methodology for capturing gendered processes and proposes how family business research could offer new insights into gender theory.

  • "All of my bosses have been men" - on gender structures in the real-estate industry
  • 2013
  • Ingår i: Property Management. - : Emerald Group Publishing Limited. - 0263-7472 .- 1758-731X. ; 31:5, s. 420-434
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Purpose: The purpose of the paper is to create an understanding of the gender structure in the real-estate industry in Sweden. Interviews were made with younger female and male graduates. The purpose is to distinguish how these younger graduates working in the industry react to the gender structure. Design/methodology/approach: Semi-structured interviews were conducted with 12 graduate younger women and men working in the real-estate industry in Sweden. As an input to the interviews a mapping of the gender structure was conducted, using annual reports of commercial real-estate companies and public housing companies in Sweden. Findings: The paper provides empirical insights that there were not any greater differences in the gender structure in Sweden, between 2001 and 2008 and none of the respondents were surprised. The symbols of men and the hegemonic masculinity - men more often holding leading and technical positions while women more often hold supporting positions in the industry - are important to understand the gender structure. In the industry the hegemonic engineering masculinity is also apparent. Research limitations/implications: The limitation of the paper might be the time period of the mapping; a longer time period might have shown a change in the structure and the amount of young female and male graduates interviewed. Practical implications: The paper includes implication for the development of the gender structure - awareness is the first step, in order to retain talented women and men. Originality/value: The paper fulfils an identified need to study the gender structure of the real-estate industry.
