  • “We passed the trust on” : Strategies for security in #MeToo activism in Sweden
  • 2020
  • Ingår i: ECSCW 2019 - Proceedings of the 17th European Conference on Computer Supported Cooperative Work. - : European Society for Socially Embedded Technologies (EUSSET). - 2510-2591.
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • The #metoo movement can serve as a case for how networked online environments can provide settings for the mobilization of social movements, while also entail serious risks for those involved. In Sweden, over hundred thousand people were engaged in activities against sexual harassments and abuse, where social media were used to collect testimonies and to draft and discuss petitions that were later published in print news media. While HCI research on trust focus on how people trust technical systems, the authorities behind the system, or the user generated data, trust between peers in vulnerable communities is less researched. In this study, based on semi-structured interviews and a survey that involved 62 organizers of the Swedish #metoo movement, we therefore look into the question of how a secure and supportive environment was achieved among participants despite the scale of the activism. The result shows how trust was aggregated over networks of technical systems, institutions, people, shared values and practices. The organizers of the petitions used tools and channels at their disposal such as e.g. already established social media contexts that enabled the #metoo petitions to be formed easily and spread quickly. Establishing a supportive culture based on recognition and shared values was central for the movement. However, when the activism was scaled up, strategies were used to increase security by clarifying rules and roles, limiting access to information, restricting access to groups, and limiting the scope of communication.

  • Ungdomars fritidsaktiviteter : deltagande, möjligheter och konsekvenser
  • 2020

  • Speaking up, leaving or keeping silent : racialized employees in the Swedish elderly care sector
  • 2017
  • Ingår i: Work, Employment and Society. - : SAGE Publications. - 0950-0170 .- 1469-8722. ; 31:6, s. 954-971
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • When encountering problems and dissatisfaction in the workplace, employees may choose between three strategies: voice; exit; or silence. Using survey data and interview material from a study of employees in an elderly care organization in Sweden, this article investigates the workers' perceptions of the eligibility and prospects of these strategies and which individual characteristics and situational factors might affect them. The focus is on racialized workers (operationalized through their region of birth) who, according to earlier studies, are less likely than other employees to choose voice behaviour. Contrary to some earlier studies, the results here attribute such a propensity to the importance of power differences across racial hierarchies' rather than to differences in cultural values. Individuals in this (racialized) category have a lower occupational status, earn less and experience less favourable relationships with their managers.

  • Why Did It Not Happen Here? : The Gradual Radicalization of the Anarchist Movement in Sweden 1980–90
  • 2016
  • Ingår i: A European Youth Revolt. - Basingstoke : Palgrave Macmillan. - 9781137565693 ; , s. 97-111
  • Bokkapitel (övrigt vetenskapligt/konstnärligt)abstract
    • This chapter examines the development and role of the anarchist movement in Sweden during the 1980s. In relation to many other parts of Northern Europe – which had seen an upsurge in radical left-libertarian activism, squatting and urban unrest at the turn of the 1980s – such social movements and confrontations remained a marginal phenomenon in Sweden, at least until the end of the decade. However, by the late 1980s a new generation of younger activists, often with roots in the anarchist milieu, formed the basis for a radical squatter and autonomist movement, which proved very similar to the movements that had developed throughout Europe almost a decade earlier.

  • Family Forerunners? An Overview of Family Demographic Change in Sweden
  • 2020
  • Ingår i: International Handbook on the Demography of Marriage and the Family. - Cham : Springer Nature. - 9783030350772 - 9783030350796 ; , s. 65-77
  • Bokkapitel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • The last half a century has witnessed swift changes in patterns of family formation and family dissolution in developed countries, followed by increased attention to these changes and to the causes and consequences of such change. In the wake of these developments, the field of family demography has developed in new directions. In the European context, Sweden and the other Nordic countries have frequently been referred to as forerunners in many aspects of family change, and these countries have gained much attention in family-demographic research. In the current contribution, we give an overview of the current state of Swedish family-demographic affairs.

  • Young people's experiences of religious socialisation in Sweden and Finland
  • 2023
  • Ingår i: International Journal of Children's Spirituality. - : Taylor & Francis. - 1364-436X .- 1469-8455.
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • The religious landscape in the Nordic countries has changed in recent decades. This article looks at what this means from the perspective of the religious socialisation experiences of Finnish and Swedish youth. Research has shown that the views and values of parents, family, friends, the youth culture and those that are prevalent in school and society as a whole are important for young people's self-development. The intergenerational socialisation of religious traditions and values has diminished as societies have become more secularised. As this topic is scarcely researched, new studies are needed also on young people's perspectives. This article aims to fill the research gap by investigating the kind of impact that parents, school and friends have on young people's religious socialisation.

  • Conducting In-Depth Interviews via Mobile Phone with Persons with Common Mental Disorders and Multimorbidity : The Challenges and Advantages as Experienced by Participants and Researchers
  • 2021
  • Ingår i: International Journal of Environmental Research and Public Health. - : MDPI AG. - 1661-7827 .- 1660-4601. ; 18:22
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Qualitative interviews are generally conducted in person. As the coronavirus pandemic (COVID-19) prevents in-person interviews, methodological studies which investigate the use of the telephone for persons with different illness experiences are needed. The aim was to explore experiences of the use of telephone during semi-structured research interviews, from the perspective of participants and researchers. Data were collected from mobile phone interviews with 32 individuals who had common mental disorders or multimorbidity which were analyzed thematically, as well as field notes reflecting researchers' experiences. The findings reveal several advantages of conducting interviews using mobile phones: flexibility, balanced anonymity and power relations, as well as a positive effect on self-disclosure and emotional display (leading to less emotional work and social responsibility). Challenges included the loss of human encounter, intense listening, and worries about technology, as well as sounds or disturbances in the environment. However, the positive aspects of not seeing each other were regarded as more important. In addition, we present some strategies before, during, and after conducting telephone interviews. Telephone interviews can be a valuable first option for data collection, allowing more individuals to be given a fair opportunity to share their experiences.

  • Naming ourselves, becoming neurodivergent scholars
  • 2023
  • Ingår i: Disability & Society. - : Routledge. - 0968-7599 .- 1360-0508.
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • In this paper we seek to restory what has been storied as "the problem of ADHD". Informed by calls for a critical ADHD studies, we explore the possibilities of ADHD collective autoethnographic storytelling. Together we (en)counter narratives of ADHD. Within our collective writing space, from our ADHD/AuDHD bodyminds, we seek to re-story our ADHD/AuDHD. We map a field of critical ADHD research within social sciences and point out problems of outsider perspectives, stressing a need for insider perspectives. Our data consist of collective authoethnographic writings about ADHD. From the data we have explored our experiences of (En)Countering ADHD narratives, and a transition process which we refer to as from "broken NT-scholars" to neurodivergent scholars, stressing the importance of ADHD:ers as independent as well as collective agents, and ADHD as epistemological standpoint within research. Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) is commonly talked about by people without ADHD.People with ADHD (ADHDers) are important in knowledge production about ADHD.This research is based on writings about ADHD by researchers with their own experiences of ADHD.We talk about ADHD together and try to find new ways of talking about ADHD which is more matched with our own experiences of ADHD.We talk about experiences of ADHD stigma and possibilities of knowledge production about ADHD by ADHDers and groups of ADHDers.
