- This video is devoted to show the way in which popular urban planning works with the program Barrio Nuevo Barrio Tricolor in the popular districs of Barrio Nuevo, Bucaral, Bello Campo and La Cruz, in the municipality of Chacao, State of Miranda, Republica Bolivariana de Venezuela.In the video the participants explain the way in which they perceive the ambitions of the housing program from a participatory and communitarian perspective. There are examples of the complementary division of labour among men and women. In the international debate it has been stressed the displacement of politics. In this particular case this displacement implies the way in which new and popular forms of decision making emerges, for example the “Salas de Batalla Socialista”. As in other instances of participation the role of women is crucial to advance the coordination of the work. - Cinésenseprojektet ägde rum på gator och torg, i vänthallar och shoppingtempel, bibliotek, butiker och skyltfönster. Dramatiskt kondenserade karaktärer introducerades för en oinvigd publik på en offentlig plats. Konstnärer och forskare undersökte tillsammans hur tid och rum på och framför skärmen (i och utanför fiktionen) kan vävas ihop till en mer performativ rymd.Projektet undersökte hur man utvecklar ett interaktivt berättande inom film men också hur en betraktare – vars roll utökats till att bli en mer eller mindre ofrivillig deltagare – påverkas? Växelspelet är avgörande; filmens utgångspunkt är att provocera fram en nyfikenhet som i sin tur utmanar filmen till att ta till nya konstgrepp.

- This article examines a 5-year collaboration between the Stockholm-based video artists Performing Pictures and Talleres Comunitarios, a studio based in the Oaxacan town of Santa Ana Zegache where local artisans employ traditional skills in the restoration of religious artifacts. In images and text, we trace the exchange of skills, knowledge, and aesthetic sensibility that took place as these two groups of artists collaborated in producing a series of video animations of venerative objects, against a backdrop of religious, social, and political tensions that characterize everyday life in Zegache. In the article and the accompanying series of three short films, ‘‘Wonder & Veneration 13’’ (http://vimeo. com/album/2682070), we examine how the artists negotiate questions of aesthetics and religious belief as their collaboration unfolds within the context of the Zegache community, where the Talleres contribute skills of carpentry and painting, while Performing Pictures provides skills of film, animation and micro-electronics. The processes and practices involved in creating three works provides the framework for this examination: the first, an animation of the Virgin of Guadalupe as she appears to a simple peasant, and the second, produced 2 years later, an animation of Santa Ana, local patron saint and mother of Maria, as she teaches her daughter to read the scriptures. Whereas both figures are central to the syncretic religious belief of southern Mexico with its challenge to the entrenched authority of the hispanicized clergy, the local figure of Santa Ana carries even more complex meanings for the community of Zegache. These meanings are embodied in the third work we examine, a small solarpowered chapel that the artists built to display the Santa Ana animation. With the mayor’s support and located at the entrance to the town, the chapel embodies a shift of power away from the church, standing as an example of indigenous empowerment in civil society.

- Intresset för Sydostasien! Det vaknade redan på 1950-talet. Min ingifta morbror hade växt upp i norra Sumatra i Indonesien. Hans berättelser inspirerade fantasier om en fantastisk värld med olika kulturer och språk. Där fanns ljuset och alla synintryck och färgerna. Där fanns musiken, dofterna, smakerna och just mötena med människor. Ett av de främsta matminnena var hans kryddiga Nasi goreng, Fried rice, alltså den indonesiska rätten stekt ris med grönsaker och kött. Minnena av min morbror blev en viktig ingång till de egna upplevelserna av regionen. År 1985 gjorde jag den första långresan i Fjärran östern, vilket också blev inledningen till de återkommande vistelserna i den Ostindiska övärlden. Erfarenheterna av regionen fördjupades sen genom studier i pedagogik, sociologi och inte minst socialantropologi. Arbetet med att dokumentera och samla in bild- och textmaterial hade inletts och kom småningom även att leda till mötet med lärarutbildningen i Stockholm. Det är bland annat där jag sedan 1990-talet jag varit yrkesverksam mellan resorna österut.

- Vid mitten av 1990-talet hade jag redan gjort flera resor i ostindiska övärlden. Kännedom om regionens historiska betydelse i mitt hemland Sverige har dock förefallit märkligt begränsad. Detta till trots av de sjöburna handelsresorna Svenska Ostindiska Kompaniet anställde genom övärlden till Kina mellan 1731 och 1813. I Del 2 av mitt fotoreportage fortsätter jag berättelsen om regionens betydelse i övärlden och omvärlden genom erfarenheter från egna resor och berättelser från min ingifta morbror som växt upp i Sumatra, Indonesien. Detta tillsammans med intervjuer och samtal med befolkningen i övärlden samt litteratur som hanterar den historiska utvecklingen. Jag har rest med penna och kamera och med kulturella ögon haft sikte på möten i vardagen och saker människor gör, där kommunikation och handel framstått som allt viktigare under arbetet.
