- This collection of field studies offers novel insights into the issues of migration and integration of immigrants. The focus of the chapters is on actions, processes, and complexity of organising practices, in contrast to more policy-oriented works. The contributors address vital questions: How is the labour market integration of refugees and other immigrants being organised in practice? What ideas of integration give rise to, and are promoted by contemporary integration initiatives? And what are the effects of these integration initiatives – on immigrants’ lives, and on their labour market integration in terms of diversity, gender, and power relations? - Per una teoria dell’organizzare propone una lettura delle organizzazioni che scopre dinamiche sottili dove altri vedono forme e strutture rigide. Per una teoria dell’organizzare afferma che le reti di azioni che noi costruiamo sanno essere plastiche e basate su molti poli, tenute insieme da connessioni “lasche”. Ed è bene tenerne conto. Per una teoria dell’organizzare ci mostra come usare l’analisi etnografica e la teoria della narrazione per capire a fondo l’agire e l’interagire. Perché il tempo delle concezioni prometeiche della leadership è finito. Lo è anche quello in cui le riforme dall’alto erano viste come panacea. Perché è urgente capire come le innovazioni si diffondono, si trapiantano da un posto a un altro, vengono traslate. Perché dobbiamo imparare a studiare processi complessi e policentrici. Senza cadere nelle trappole dei miti. Se ne consiglia la lettura a chi sappia superare la fantasia che le idee viaggino in una sola direzione. E che il cambiamento pianificato è l’unico possibile. Se ne sconsiglia la lettura a chi è a caccia di ricette, senza accogliere una teoria. Nessuna scelta è scartabile a priori.

- The ways welfare has been, is, and will be organized are both intriguing and important. This book reports on a study that was intended to complement the traditional studies of the welfare sector, which either collect statistics (which is very useful), conduct surveys (also useful, but mostly for sampling the dominant discourse), or engage in speculative reasoning (mostly done by economists and political scientists). We elicited narratives from citizens of three welfare states – Canada, Australia, and Sweden – representing different generations (20+ to 70+ years old) , which illustrate the ways they think about organization of welfare, at present and in the future.
