Recognized by their well-developed digital infrastructures, stable welfare arrangements and strong social partners, the Nordic countries provide an interesting context for studying how digitalization shapes work and what kind of policy co-ordination is needed to tackle the impact of digital change and other megatrends on jobs, employment and employment relations.

- This book investigates the pervasive problem of corruption across the Middle East and North Africa. Drawing on the specifics of the local context, the book explores how corruption in the region is actuated through informal practices that coexist and work in parallel to formal institutions. When informal practices become vehicles for corruption, they can have negative ripple effects across many aspects of society, but on the other hand, informal practices could also have the potential to be leveraged to reinforce formal institutions to help fight corruption. Drawing on a range of cases including Morocco, Lebanon, Turkey, Jordan, Tunisia or Israel the book first explores the mechanisms and dynamics of corruption and informal practices in the region, before looking at the successes and failures of anti-corruption initiatives. The final section focuses on gender perspectives on corruption, which are often overlooked in corruption literature, and the role of women in the Middle East. With insights drawn from a range of disciplines, this book will be of interest to researchers and students across political science, philosophy, socio-legal studies, public administration, and Middle Eastern studies, as well as to policy makers and practitioners working in the region.

- Participatory Practice explores the core ideas of participatory practice and how theory and practice can be integrated to achieve transformative change. The ideas in the book are founded on two premises: firstly, that transformative practice begins in the everyday stories that people tell about their lives and that practical theory generated from these narratives is the best way to inform both policy and practice. Secondly, that participatory practice is a tool for examining this knowledge in that it allows practitioners to examine the way they view the world and to situate their local practice within bigger social issues. The book is expected to be of interest to both academics and community-based practitioners. Professor Springett commented: “Writing the book was a transformative experience in itself because we had to cross the divide between our different professions. The idea to write it came from our joint concern for the appropriation of the language of participation by many politicians and agencies without a real examination of what true participation actually consists of."

- I det moderna samhället värderas vetenskap och demokrati högt. Men de ses ofta som varandras motsatser, vilka måste hållas separerade. Vetenskapen bör inte demokratiseras och demokratin inte förvetenskapligas. Men det är bara halva sanningen. Vetenskap och demokrati har viktiga gemensamma rötter, brottas med likartade problem, och är ofta tätt sammanvävda. Vetenskaplig kunskap ska lösa samhällsproblem av allehanda slag och blir samtidigt alltmer kommersialiserad genom ett tätt samspel med näringslivet. Vi behöver därför fråga oss hur kunskap produceras, vilka som inkluderas eller utesluts och vilka frågor eller kunskapsformer som dominerar respektive marginaliseras. Kort sagt: vad har god kunskap (vetenskap) med god styrning (demokrati) att göra? Frågan om vetenskapens demokratisering är en viktig tematik inom forskningsfältet vetenskaps- och teknikstudier (Science and Technology Studies – STS). Boken redogör för grundläggande frågor och begrepp inom detta fält och belyser hur vetenskapen är sammanvävd med politik. "Vetenskap och demokrati" vänder sig till alla som är intresserade av vetenskapens roll i samhället.

- Abstract Gothenburg is located on Sweden’s west coast. The sea and an international orientation beckoned for this city, where it was harbour port and home to the Swedish East India Company during the 1700s. This book is part of a city initiative called Kunskap Göteborg 2021, in celebration of Gothenburg’s 400-years jubilee that takes place in 2021. This book is a collection of narratives and insights of those who had helped build the international orientation of Gothenburg from the early 1980s, focusing specifically on Gothenburg’s past, present and future ties with Asia, vice versa. The foundational research for this book in was made possible by a stipendium from the Foundation Anna Ahrenberg, Gothenburg, Sweden. Target readership This book is for scholars and practitioners interested to get first hand insight into interview data with key individuals who helped (re-)open trade relations between Sweden and China from the early 1980s. It also traces the foundational discourse that helped build international business relations between Sweden and China from the time of the Swedish East Indiaman trade during the 1700s. Historical documents from merchants and supercargoes of Sweden’s early Far East trade indicates that Sweden had a different perspective than most other European countries with regards to how it interacted with China in international business and culture sharing. - Climate change has an impact on the ability of transboundary water management institutions to deliver on their respective mandates. The starting point for this book is that actors within transboundary water management institutions develop responses to the climate change debate, as distinct from the physical phenomenon of climate change. Actors respond to this debate broadly in three distinct ways – adapt, resist (as in avoiding the issue) and subvert (as in using the debate to fulfil their own agenda). The book charts approaches which have been taken over the past two decades to promote more effective water management institutions, covering issues of conflict, cooperation, power and law.
