  • The Impact of the Organizing Vision on Mobile BI Adoption
  • 2014
  • Ingår i: DSS 2.0 – Supporting Decision Making with New Technologies. - 0922-6389. - 9781614993988 ; 261, s. 303-313
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Mobile Business Intelligence (m-BI) enhances the capabilities of organizations to take decisions 'on-the-move'. M-BI emerged as an extension of BI and many companies have or are considering implementing it. Being an innovation, m-BI reflects an organizing vision, created by a broad community, which is prominent during the comprehension process of this innovation. Little is known how the organizing vision affects the decision to adopt a certain innovation, and moreover these studies are completely lacking within the m-BI area. A qualitative approach has been embraced and interviews with different organizations that have already decided to adopt m-BI have been conducted. This study revealed that industrial research reports, vendors marketing campaigns and success stories produced by the collaboration among vendors, analysts, journalist and early adopters have a strong influence on the early phases of the organizational decision-making process to adopt m-BI. Increasing internal and external legitimacy, reducing the risk to be left behind, gaining competitive advantage, following the footsteps of high-performing companies, increasing their prestige and reputation, are the main reasons for why organizations may start the decision-making process to adopt m-BI; all this under the umbrella of the organizing vision.

  • From an Information Consumer to an Information Author : the Role of Self-Service Business Intelligence
  • 2017
  • Ingår i: AMCIS 2017 Proceedings. - 9780996683142
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Self-service business intelligence (SSBI) enables executives, managers, analysts and knowledge workers to access data and build reports based on their needs to support decisions and actions toward business success. This suggests that business users not only consume information but that they are also able to author information. This discourse remains concentrated at an industrial level, and there is a lack of academic research on the self-service capability of BI. To this end, we draw on a literature review on self-service technologies (SST) to explore the characteristics needed for SSBI to extend the role of a business user beyond being an information consumer. This study highlights ease of use, trust, independence and control as the main characteristics that are needed to generate outcomes in terms of co-production, self-efficacy and time efficiency at an individual level.

  • Patterns of resource integration in the self-service approach to business analytics
  • 2020
  • Ingår i: Proceedings of the 53rd Annual Hawaii International Conference on System Sciences, HICSS 2020. - 1530-1605. - 9780998133133 ; 2020-January, s. 5359-5368
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • The main premise of Self-Service Business Analytics (SSBA) is to make business employees autonomous during the data analytical process. To empower business employees, organizations are decentralizing their analytical capabilities through an SSBA approach. Yet, little is known about how employees integrate resources, such as, among others, personal competencies, environment resources including technology, and to generate insights in SSBA. Based on the empirical data of a major Norwegian online marketplace and drawing on service-dominant logic as an analytical framework, we identify and explain two types of resource integration in an SSBA environment: direct and clustered resource integration (including 1st tier and 2nd tier) enabled and controlled by three types of institutions. We finally discuss some organizational implications and the meaning of each sub-type of clustered resource integration.

  • An Approach for Designing Management Support Systems: The Design Science Research Process and its Outcomes
  • 2009
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Design science research involves creating and evaluating innovative methods and approaches to be used in design practice. We present an approach to be used in the process of designing Management Support Systems (MSS). The nature of managerial work makes the design, development, and implementation of MSS a major challenge. The MSS literature suggests that determining MSS requirements and specification of MSS are the most critical phases in MSS design and development. We present an approach that can be used as a guide for MSS design, with a primary focus on MSS requirements determination and how requirements can be fulfilled using information and communication technologies (ICT). The approach builds on Quinn and associates’ competing values model (CVM) of organizational effectiveness. The approach can guide MSS designers in designing MSS that support different managerial roles, i.e., the development of MSS that support managerial cognition, decision, and action.
