  • Home setting after stroke, facilitators and barriers: a systematic literature review
  • 2018
  • Ingår i: Health and Social Care in the Community. - : Hindawi Limited. - 1365-2524 .- 0966-0410. ; 26:4, s. e451-e459
  • Forskningsöversikt (refereegranskat)abstract
    • This paper seeks to improve the understanding of the interaction between patients with stroke and the physical environment in their home settings. Stroke care is increasingly performed in the patient’s home. Therefore, a systematic review was conducted to identify the existing knowledge about facilitators and barriers in the physical environment of home settings for the stroke rehabilitation process. Based upon Arksey and O’Malley’s framework, a Boolean search strategy was performed in the databases; CINAHL, Medline, Web of Science and Scopus. Fifteen articles were retained from the literature search conducted between August and November 2016, and two researchers independently assessed their quality based on the Swedish Council on Health Technology Assessment guidelines. The results suggest that despite the healthcare system’s ongoing shift towards home-based rehabilitation, the role played by the physical environment of home settings is still considered a side finding. Moreover, the research appears to focus mainly on how this environment supports mobility and activities of daily living, whereas information regarding the psychosocial and emotional processes that mediate the interaction between stroke survivors and their home setting are missing. A lack of information was also found with regard to the influence of different geographic locations on the stroke rehabilitation process. Future investigations are therefore needed to advance the understanding of the role played by the physical environment of home settings in supporting stroke recovery.

  • A systematic review of the research on telework and organizational economic performance indicators
  • 2022
  • Ingår i: Frontiers in Psychology. - : Frontiers. - 1664-1078. ; 13
  • Forskningsöversikt (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Introduction: A systematic review is conducted in the study to investigate the relationship between telework and organizational economic performance indicators such as self-reported employee performance, organizational performance, actual employee turnover rates, or intentions. Methods: The databases Scopus, Business Source Premier, and Web of Science were used to conduct a literature search. Original articles published from 2000 and up to May 2021 were selected. Studies were screened for inclusion independently by review pairs and data were extracted. The Mixed Methods Appraisal Tool (MMAT) was used to evaluate the quality of the studies included. Results: Forty-three studies were included with some addressing multiple outcomes. Self-reported performance was higher for teleworking employees compared to those working in the ordinary workplace. The extent of the change in performance was dependent on individual characteristics and the extent of the teleworking practice in the organization. Telework was also associated with increased organizational performance, particularly in homogenous samples with unique work tasks. When telework is voluntary, it appears that both actual employee turnover rates and intentions to leave the organization are lower.Discussion: Further research with high-quality prospective designs is necessary to properly understand the contribution of telework to organizational economic performance indicators.

  • Promoting empathy in social care for older people
  • 2012
  • Ingår i: Working with Older People. - London, United Kingdom : Emerald Group Publishing Limited. - 1366-3666 .- 2042-8790. ; 16:3, s. 101-110
  • Forskningsöversikt (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Purpose: The purpose of this paper is to identify connections between empathy and social care and to describe aspects of empathy in social care work, by bringing together research from different fields.Design/methodology/approach: Five doctoral theses which discussed empathy among care workers of older people in Sweden were analysed as a group. The theses had been published over the period 1996 to 2007. Methodologically, the examination underpinned an interpretive content analysis.Findings: The meta-analysis revealed conflicting feelings among care workers. Most experienced frustration when they were not able to express empathy in their working practices. Empathy was typically hindered by lack of time, care workers' own needs, and inflexible home care systems. However, a key element of the job-satisfaction reported by care workers appeared to be its empathic nature. Most care workers perceive encounters with older people as opportunities to respond empathically rather than indifferently. The implications of these findings are discussed.Originality/value: The study is an overview that attempts to build a bridge across the two concepts, social care and empathy. The main strength of this analysis is its originality of approach undertaking a specific literature review and reflecting on a subject that has not previously been explored in the Swedish context.

  • Intersectional perspectives on the employment rate in Supported Employment for people with psychiatric, neuropsychiatric, or intellectual disabilities : A scoping review
  • 2023
  • Ingår i: Work. - : IOS Press. - 1051-9815 .- 1875-9270. ; 74:2, s. 435-454
  • Forskningsöversikt (refereegranskat)abstract
    • BACKGROUND: Supported Employment (SE) has shown better results in the employment rate for persons with disabilities than other methods within vocational rehabilitation, but how SE affects the employment rate for subgroups in the interventions needs further attention.OBJECTIVE: To examine previous research regarding the influence of intersecting statuses on the employment rate in SE for people with psychiatric, neuropsychiatric, or intellectual disabilities according to type of diagnosis, sex, race/ethnicity, age, level of education and previous work history.METHODS: A systematic literature search was conducted in nine databases including peer-reviewed articles from 2000 to April 2021. Articles presenting the employment rate in SE interventions according to the intersecting statuses listed in the objective were included.RESULTS: The searches identified 3777 unique records, of which 53 articles were included in data extraction. In most of the included articles, intersecting statuses did not affect the employment rate for people in the SE interventions with psychiatric disabilities. Few studies have examined neuropsychiatric and intellectual disabilities. A majority of the studies subjected to full-text analysis were excluded due to a lack of reporting of the effects of intersecting statuses on the employment rate. The studies that reported on the effects of intersecting statuses on the employment rate often had small samples and lacked statistical power.CONCLUSIONS: Intersecting statuses do not appear to affect the employment rate for people receiving SE interventions, but systematic reviews with pooled samples need to be undertaken because of the low reporting rate and underpowered sample sizes in existing studies.

  • Is 'legal empowerment of the poor' relevant to people with disabilities in developing countries? An empirical and normative review.
  • 2013
  • Ingår i: Global Health Action. - : Informa UK Limited. - 1654-9880 .- 1654-9716. ; 6:22854, s. 1-15
  • Forskningsöversikt (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Background : Legal empowerment of the poor is highly relevant to public health as it aims to relieve income poverty, a main determinant of health. The Commission on Legal Empowerment of the Poor (CLEP) has proposed legal empowerment measures in the following four domains: access to justice and the rule of law, property, labor, and business rights. Despite being overrepresented among the poor, CLEP has not explicitly considered the situation of people with disabilities. Objectives : To examine the empirical evidence for the relevance of the CLEP legal empowerment measures to people with disabilities in low- and lower middle-income countries, and to evaluate the extent to which the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (CRPD) addresses those measures. Methods : Critical literature review of empirical studies and a checklist assessment of the CRPD. Results : Fourteen included articles confirm that people with disabilities experience problems in the domains of access to justice and the rule of law, labor rights, and business rights. No texts on property rights were found. Evidence for the effectiveness of the proposed measures is insufficient. Overall, the CRPD fully or partially supports two-thirds of the proposed measures (seven out of nine measures for access to justice and the rule of law, none of the five measures for property rights, all seven measures for labor rights, and six out of nine measures for business rights). Conclusions : Although most of the domains of the CLEP legal empowerment measures are relevant to people with disabilities from both empirical and normative perspectives, it is uncertain whether the devised measures are of immediate relevance to them. Further research is warranted in this regard.

  • The Role of Public-Private Partnerships in Housing as a Potential Contributor to Sustainable Cities and Communities : A Systematic Review
  • 2021
  • Ingår i: Sustainability. - : MDPI. - 2071-1050. ; 13:14
  • Forskningsöversikt (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Today cities face the increasing negative consequences of the unsustainable course society is set on. Climate change, biodiversity loss and increasing spatial segregation are testament to this. The effects of these issues often exceed the coping capacity of individual urban housing developers. Thus, an antidote to the current neoliberal trend must be found in collaborations such as public-private partnerships (PPP). Here the shortcomings and limitations of PPP and its potential ability to solve the problem of unsustainable urban development are investigated. Using the Doughnut Economics (DE) model as a general guide, a systematic literature review is conducted. The results reveal evidence that PPPs are unjust and exclude local actors from collaborations. Hence, resident participation and inclusion is considered the best strategy for PPP to evolve as a future guarantor of the sustainable city. First, however, major differences in the character of issues that connect the global model of sustainability to the harsh reality of the local context need to be addressed. This gap concerns the city's social foundation and ecological ceiling. The DE model applied herein is an excellent tool to test the scope and depth of local collaborations such as PPPs and reflect on international treaties such as SDGs.

  • Nutrient policies and the performance of aquaculture in developed countries – a literature review
  • 2024
  • Ingår i: Aquaculture Economics and Management. - 1365-7305 .- 1551-8663. ; , s. 1-30
  • Forskningsöversikt (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Eutrophication is a serious problem in many parts of the world, and aquaculture production can contribute to the problem as well as be part of its solution. Nutrient polices in developed countries are often command-and-control policies that may have contributed to the slow growth of the sector. We perform a literature review to investigate how current nutrient polices affect the sector and if economic incentive policies have greater potential to support sector growth. Although the literature is limited in many aspects, the results indicate that this may be the case. Given that the ability to measure, monitor and control has improved over time, possibilities for using economic incentive policies have increased. For example, subsidies that are results-based, i.e., based on the amount of emissions that are reduced, could be used. It is also possible for aquaculture production to benefit from being included in emissions trading systems, where these are available.

  • Sustainability Accounting for Externalities
  • 2019
  • Ingår i: Sustainability. - New Rochelle, NY, USA : Mary Ann Liebert. - 1937-0695 .- 1937-0709. ; 12:3, s. 158-162
  • Forskningsöversikt (refereegranskat)abstract
    • As companies' impacts on society receive increasing attention, higher expectations are placed on accounting systems to consider effects on internal and external stakeholders. With a broader sustainability perspective, impacts of external effects caused by companies' operations are made visible in financial reports. This article argues that externalities should be recognized in financial reports and proposes ways to extend traditional balance sheets and income statements with information on companies' environmental, social, and economic impacts on society.

  • Characteristics of Collaborative Learning in Teacher Professional Development : A Systematic Review
  • 2022
  • Ingår i: Mathematics Teacher Education and Development. - : Mathematics Education Research Group of Australasia. - 1442-3901. ; 24:1, s. 72-95
  • Forskningsöversikt (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Professional Learning Communities (PLC) have been used increasingly in designing and discussing teachers' professional development, but how PLC are organised and framed differ between contexts. There is a lack of meta-level studies that aim to define and compare different ways of organising PLC. In this literature review of 32 studies, Cultural-historical Activity Theory (CHAT) is used as an analytical lens to examine different models for PLC in mathematics. By examining and comparing PLC in mathematics, the review aims to expand understanding of how PLC in mathematics can be organised and framed. The result revealed three distinctive activity systems with different objects: developing norms for collaboration, developing teachers’ understanding about mathematics and its teaching, and developing teachers’ repertoire of teaching actions. The activity systems vary concerning the use of mediating artifacts and the norms that regulate each activity system, but are similar regarding participants, context, and division of labor. The review indicates that the teachers participating in PLC in mathematics change their norms of collaboration, enhance their understanding of mathematics and its teaching, and/or enhance their ability to design and carry out mathematics teaching. Our findings can assist designers, organisers, participants, and researchers in making informed decisions about PLC in mathematics.

  • Branding in the public sector : a systematic literature review and directions for future research
  • 2019
  • Ingår i: Journal of Brand Management. - : Palgrave Macmillan. - 1350-231X .- 1479-1803. ; 26:2, s. 126-140
  • Forskningsöversikt (refereegranskat)abstract
    • The increased interest of public organizations in using corporate branding principles creates a need to understand how to implement such principles effectively. Although previous research investigates challenges related to branding in this context, the findings provide contradictory evidence and opposing recommendations. The purpose of this study is to conduct a systematic review of literature on branding in the public sector and to explore directions for future research. The results demonstrate that owing to the distinct differences between the private and public sectors, there is a need to adapt branding principles to meet the sector-specific challenges faced by public organizations. However, the extent of the required changes needs further research. This literature review presents a number of potential directions for future studies, which focus on diverse topics related to the internal and external aspects that are crucial to the successful branding of public organizations.
