Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
- When established in 2012, the Arctic Centre of Umeå University (Arcum) became the first cohesive center for Arctic research in Sweden. Since then, strategic networking on all levels has grown. Today, Arcum’s local network includes more than 250 researchers from all faculty areas. Nationally and internationally, Arcum collaborates with a large number of universities and research facilities and associates with organizations and networks such as University of the Arctic (UArctic), International Arctic Social Science Association (IASSA), International Congress of Circumpolar Health (ICCH) and China Nordic Arctic Research Centre (CNARC). Arcum strives towards multidisciplinarity and a broad definition of Arctic research. For example, a bibliometric analysis of the period 2012 – 2020 illustrates the progress in Arctic profiling and how Arcum’s local network has produced close to 1,600 peer-reviewed papers. The majority of these are related to science and medicine, but a fair share also representing the social sciences and humanities, mirroring an increasing interest in the human dimension of Arctic existence. We conclude that strategic networking has been an efficient tool for strengthening the Arctic profile and related research at Umeå University. The recent organizational reform and reorientation towards spin-offs and graduate research is likely to enhance this successful trend.

Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
- The aim of this paper is to evaluate the injury risk of child occupant exposed to the deployed side airbag in side impact. Based on the Prescribed Structure Motion, LS-Dyna and MADYMO softwares was used to develop the simulation models. Simulations with and without side airbag deployment were carried out under the Euro-NCAP side impact conditions. The dynamic response parameters of head, neck and thorax of 6-year-old child with misusing and using correctly booster seat were analyzed and compared. The results indicated that the child misusing booster seat may not receive the threat of side airbag for head and thorax. The child using booster seat correctly may receive the protective benefits of side airbag for head and thorax. Whether a child misuses or uses correctly booster seat, the injury risk of neck depends on the real impact situations.

Ingår i: The Journal of South China Sea Studies. - 2096-0166. ; 5:4, s. 100-109

Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
- Developmental regionalism is a combination of the frontier theory of regionalism and the practice of regionalism in developing countries. It also reflects China's Views on Global Governance, in particular supporting expanding representation and voice of developing countries in international affairs. This paper studies the general concept of developmental regionalism and its uniqueness in the South Pacific Region (SPR). By taking the new developments of South Pacific regionalism in the new era as case studies, the paper investigates how the connotation of developmental regionalism and the characteristics of the South Pacific shape the core features of the developmental regionalism in the South Pacific beyond regional integration, trade issues and purely economic development, focusing on regional collective diplomacy with oceanic characteristics, in particular in the issues concerning the South Pacific such as climate change and fisheries and ocean governance, which works for generalized regional development rights.

This paper aims to analyze experiences of the Swedish welfare system and later year’s changes and reforms in respect to people with intellectual disability. Based on a description of different types of welfare models, Swedish policy and laws and the transformation of the welfare system, an analysis and discussion follow based on current research knowledge about major trends in practice and everyday life for people with intellectual disability. Special focus is on the greater variation in support and services, increasing self-advocacy, the impact of 20 years with a right-based law and on the increasing marketization of disability services in relation to quality of services and outcomes for people with intellectual disability.

Sexualized Female Bodies : Gender Implications on the Characterization of Lengmo in Hong Kong Print Media
- 2012
-
Ingår i: Hong Kong Journal of Social Sciences. - 1021-3619. ; 42:Spring/Summer, s. 83-96
-
Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
- In recent years, lengmo has emerged as a popular and controversial subject in Hong Kong society. Literally meaning naïve young model, lengmo is a relatively new occupation that allows young women who lack the figure of professional models to enter the entertainment industry. These young women, mostly in sexy appearance, become a social phenomenon propelled by local print media. This paper analyzes how Hong Kong print media characterize lengmo by endorsing them as sexualized subjects. These characterizations imply the discourse of sexualizing female bodies. Although seemingly pushing the expression of female sexuality into social spaces, they do not liberate women in pursuit of sexual autonomy. Such implication entails the patriarchal ideology in which the operation of local print media is grounded.
