- Cet article examine le parcours de vie des personnes âgées à faibles revenus en Suède et en Belgique, selon une approche comparative des politiques sociales de ces deux pays. L’étude porte sur les conditions de vie actuelles de ces personnes âgées, ainsi que sur les événements et parcours à l’origine de leur faible niveau de ressources. Une analyse secondaire qualitative de 49 récits de vie a permis d’identifier cinq parcours menant à un faible niveau de revenus, signe de la relation complexe entre parcours de vie et précarité économique. Les divers événements de la vie interagissent fortement entre eux, soulignant la nécessité de développer les interventions sociales afin d’apporter un soutien coordonné aux personnes confrontées à de multiples difficultés tout au long de leur vie et dans différents contextes sociaux. Les conclusions de l’étude soulignent également la nécessité de pousser plus avant les recherches sur les processus sociaux responsables des situations de faibles revenus chez les personnes âgées dans différents types d’État-providence.

Ou bien la séquence de ces protestations, acte par acte, samedi après samedi depuis près d’un an maintenant, marque-t-elle une urgence sociale et l’émergence d’une nouvelle forme politique ?

- The health crisis caused by the spread of COVID-19 has normalized the “war” rhetoric as an argumentative strategy for many politicians. However, the mass media has conveyed particular rhetoric for women leaders: their responses to COVID-19 were seen as more preventive, effective, and cooperation-oriented. Thus, since the onset of the pandemic, do the discourses of women leaders counter the myths that associate autonomy, rationality, and national interest with men and masculinity? The purpose of this article is to analyze the extent to which the discourses of Tsai Ing-wen (Taiwan), Jacinda Ardern (New Zealand), and Katrín Jakobsdóttir (Iceland) mobilize warlike analogies in the management of the COVID-19 health crisis. Following a feminist poststructuralist framework in the field of international relations and a qualitative methodology based on thematic discourse analysis, the article demonstrates that women leaders mobilize discourses more oriented towards mutual assistance, care, and gender relations than towards war, except the Taiwanese leader who, without adopting a belligerent discourse, insists on the “combative” model of her government.

- This article aims at questioning the uses of feminist epistemologies and methodologies in the context of a fieldwork project conducted in Colombia on the return to civilian life of female combatants. While the topic « female combatants »tends to be the object of an academic over-investment, contributing to its depoliticization, the Authors discuss the various approaches, tools and methods produced by feminist epistemology that can be mobilized in order to avoid the reproduction of power relationships that can be established between researchers and participants, but also the competition between the researchers themselves. The article begins by analyzing the various factors that have contributed to the making of “female combatants” as an over-studied subject. It then describes the fieldwork that inspired our discussion and examines more particularly the challenges raised by a concrete application of feminist epistemology during the fieldwork. Third, it articulates proposals to develop feminist epistemology beyond gender issues by rethinking the multiple manners of organizing the different spatio-temporalities of the research process and the concrete connection with the territories of investigation.

Socio-economic status and social participation as predictors of quality of life of older adults with functional limitations : a cross-sectional study in Italy and Greece

- Older adults with functional limitations constitute a vulnerable group with usually lower levels of health status and quality of life (QoL). In both Italy and Greece, informal care and privately-hired care workers are common measures for providing them continuous care and support, more than public care services. This situation might increase the risk of worst QoL if older adults are not equipped with own social and economic resources for coping with daily life limitations, especially in a macro-context heavily influenced in recent years by the effects of the economic crisis. The study aimed at identifying the role of socio-economic status (SES) and social participation as predictors of QoL of older adults with functional limitations, after the Great Recession period. We used data on older adults (50+ years) from the Survey on health, ageing and retirement in Europe (Share) wave 6 (2015) for conducting a cross-sectional descriptive analysis and running a hierarchical linear regression model for both Italy and Greece, with blocs of predictors concerning demographic, socio-economic, health, access to care, and social participation domains. In both countries, higher levels of SES and social participation were strongly associated with higher QoL, although good health status remained the most influential predictor of better QoL. Our results suggested that multiple social inequalities are likely to occur among most socially disadvantaged older adults and may heavily affect their QoL and social inclusion.
