  • Omission of feedback in single-cue probability learning
  • 1971
  • Rapport (övrigt vetenskapligt/konstnärligt)abstract
    • Brehmer,B.,and Lindberg, L. Omission of feedback in single-cue probability learning. Umeå Psychological Reports, No. 46, 1971. - The effects of the omission of feedback in single-cue probability learning was studied as a function of the sign and magnitude of the correlation between cue and criterion variables, the magnitude of the slope relating the criterion values to the cue values, and the magnitude of the unaccounted for variance in the task in three experiments. Replicating earlier findings, the results of these experiments show that the omission of feedback results in an increase in the correlations between cues and judgments. This increase in correlations is due to an increase in the slopes of the regression lines relating the subjects' judgments to the cue values.

  • Policy conflict as a function of policy similarity and policy complexity
  • 1971
  • Rapport (övrigt vetenskapligt/konstnärligt)abstract
    • Brehmer,B. Policy conflict as a function of policy similarity and policy complexity. Umeå Psychological Reports, No. 33, 1970. -The experiment tests the hypotheses, derived frcm the results of earlier studies on policy conflict, that subjects with similar policies will decrease their agreement in a policy conflict situation, and that subjects with cogni-tively complex policies will decrease their agreement more than subjects with cognitively simple policies. The results support the hypotheses, and show that the decrease in agreement is due to the decrease in policy consistency which, in turn, is due to the manner in which the subjects change their policies in the conflict situation.

  • The roles of policy differences and inconsistency in policy conflict
  • 1969
  • Rapport (övrigt vetenskapligt/konstnärligt)abstract
    • Brehmer,B. The roles of policy differences and inconsistency in policy conflict. Umeå Psychological Reports, No. 18, 1970. - Disagreement caused by policy differences is shown to be a function of two factors: the systematic differences between the policies and the consistency of these policies. The relative importance of the two factors is studied in an illustrative experiment involving decision making under conditions of uncertainty. The results of the experiment indicate that in the beginning of the conflict period, most disagreement is caused by systematic diffe- .rences in policy. These differences are, however, rapidly reduced. At the same time, the consistency of the policies decreases so that at the end of the conflict period, most of the disagreement is caused by lack of consistency in the policies.Due to this lack of consistency, the actual differences between the decisions made by the subjects are not very much reduced, despite the fact that the systematic differences between their policies have all but disappeared.
