  • Tourism, information technologies and sustainability : an exploratory review
  • 2017
  • Ingår i: Journal of Sustainable Tourism. - : Taylor & Francis. - 0966-9582 .- 1747-7646. ; 25:7, s. 1024-1041
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Considerable attention has been paid in recent years to the fundamental changes in the global tourism system related to the emergence of information technologies (IT), and, specifically, the rise of social media. Opportunities to search travel-related information, to reserve and book, evaluate and judge; to receive travel advice and to communicate one's mobility patterns have all profoundly changed the practices of performing tourism, with concomitant repercussions for the management and marketing of businesses and destinations. This paper provides a discussion of the implications of these changes for the sustainability of the global tourism system. Based on an exploratory research design, key changes in the tourism system are identified and discussed with regard to their environmental, socio-cultural and psychological, as well as economic significance. The paper concludes that IT affects the tourism system in numerous and complex ways, with mixed outcomes for sustainability: while most changes would currently appear to be ambivalent – and some outright negative – there is considerable potential for IT to support more sustainable tourism. Yet, this would require considerable changes in the tourism system on global, national and individual business' levels, and require tourism academics to probe many new issues.

  • Ingår i: The Routledge handbook of tourism and sustainability. - London : Routledge. - 9780415662482 ; , s. 1-11
  • Bokkapitel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Sustainable tourism is a sub-set of sustainable development. Sustainable tourism is a tourismsystem that encourages qualitative development, with a focus on quality of life and well-beingmeasures, but not aggregate quantitative growth to the detriment of natural capital.

  • Conducting the Pilot Study : A Neglected Part of the Research Process? Methodological Findings Supporting the Importance of Piloting in Qualitative Research Studies
  • 2019
  • Ingår i: International Journal of Qualitative Methods. - : Sage Publications. - 1609-4069. ; 18, s. 1-11
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • During the development of research to compare the processes and impact of inclusive education in Sweden with results obtained from a study undertaken in Ireland, a pilot study was conducted and documented. The pilot study had three aims: (1) to gather data to provide guidance for a substantive study adapted to Swedish conditions through modification of Irish research procedures and instruments, (2) to critically interrogate how we as researchers could most effectively conduct a pilot study utilizing observational and video-recorded data, and (3) to use the Irish theoretical model as a tool of analysis for studying inclusion in two Swedish schools. Although pilot studies are frequently conducted to assess the efficacy of research instruments for use in qualitative research projects, few publications have drawn upon empirical findings related to such studies. Additionally, while methodological texts recommend the use of pilot studies in qualitative research, there is a lack of reported research focusing on how to conduct such pilot studies. We argue that our methodological findings may contribute to greater awareness of the important role that a pilot study may have for full-scale qualitative research projects, for example, in case study research where semi-structured qualitative interviews are used. This argument is based on the assumption that researchers, and especially novice researchers, having conducted a pilot study will be better informed and prepared to face the challenges that are likely to arise in the substantive study and more confident in the instruments to be used for data collection. A proper analysis of the procedures and results from the pilot study facilitates the identification of weaknesses that may be addressed. A carefully organized and managed pilot study has the potential to increase the quality of the research as results from such studies can inform subsequent parts of the research process.

  • Parcours de vie des personnes âgées à faibles revenus : Étude secondaire de données qualitatives issues d’entretiens en Suède et en Belgique
  • 2019
  • Ingår i: Retraite et société. - Paris : Documentation Francaise. - 1167-4687 .- 1961-8719. ; 81:1, s. 65-90
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract

  • Women at the periphery of the of the US sports media industry
  • 2022
  • Ingår i: Idrottsforum.org. - Malmö : Malmö university. ; , s. 1-5
  • Recension (övrigt vetenskapligt/konstnärligt)abstract
    • In sports, to stay on the sidelines means to stay outside of the playing area and not participate in the game. The causes often imply a negative position due to being a beginner who has not yet been tried in real-life situations. Despite title XI and periodic reports from the Gender Media Monitoring Project (GMMP), it is in this marginalized prescribed position that the female sportscasters in this study find themselves when they talk about the mistreatment and discrimination at the workplace.
