  • Scrutinizing sustainability change and its institutionalization in organizations
  • 2020
  • Ingår i: Frontiers in Sustainability. - : Frontiers Media S.A.. - 2673-4524.
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Organizations (i.e., civil society, corporations, and public sector organizations) have been instrumental in driving sustainability. In the last decade, there has been an increasing interest in organizational sustainability, and an increase of organizational change management for sustainability. Although, there have been many efforts aimed at incorporating sustainability in organizations, incorporating, integrating, and institutionalizing sustainability in organizations is still under-researched. A survey was developed for investigating the importance of how sustainability has been embedded in organizations' system elements. The survey was sent to a database of 5,299 contacts from different organizations worldwide. From the total, 281 useable responses (6.78%) for the organizational change part were obtained. The variables analyzed were mainly ordinal scales, therefore, non-parametric methods were used for the analyses, including descriptive, Friedman test for ranking, and Kruskal Wallis and Wilcoxon tests for comparisons. More than 90% of the responding organizations have been working with sustainability for more than 5 years. The main driving forces for sustainability have been motivated equally by external stimuli and internal factors. The focus on sustainability and recognition of the impacts that the organization has are fairly aligned. The findings show that the main areas, from the start and during the changes, have been on governance, management and strategy, and operations and production. The majority of the changes were effected between six and seven systems elements, which indicates a large degree of institutionalization. The comparison tests show that the nature of the organization plays a key role for where the sustainability changes start, and how the changes affect system elements. The research highlights that it inconsequential where sustainability changes start, as long as sustainability is adopted throughout all the system elements, including internal and external stakeholders. Planning sustainability changes must address its four dimensions holistically, as well as technical, managerial, and organizational issues, and the organization's stakeholders.

  • Transformation of Strategic Alliances in Emerging Markets : Volume I
  • 2021. - 1
  • Bok (övrigt vetenskapligt/konstnärligt)abstract
    • There is much research into strategic business alliances in emerging markets, but none focuses on this form of collaboration within Europe’s emerging economies. This is a critical absence, as the European transition region is not only different from other European and Western regions but also from other regions with developing economies. Partners in the European transition region have unique cultural and social backgrounds, and consequently, unique ways of doing business. Transformations of Strategic Alliances in Emerging Markets focuses on this important gap. This book, the first of a two-volume set, makes a unique contribution to emerging market research by investigating the transformation of alliances in Eastern and central Europe over the past forty years. It provides a conceptual framework to describe and analyse the formation, development and functional mechanisms of strategic alliances in the European transition region, ultimately offering an in-depth overview of the challenges and opportunities around strategic alliance formation in emerging European markets.  Transformations of Strategic Alliances in Emerging Markets, Volume I, is a must-read for academics and postgraduate students of development economics and business administration.

  • Reshoring decision support in a Swedish context
  • 2018
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • This paper presents a decision-support system for reshoring decision-making based on fuzzy logic. The construction and functionality of the decision-support system are described, and the functionality is evaluated in a high cost environment exemplified through a Swedish context. Ten different reshoring scenarios, provided by Swedish reshoring experts, are entered into the decision-support system and the decision recommendations provided by the system are presented. The confidence that can be put on the recommendations is demonstrated by comparing them with those of the reshoring experts. The positive results obtained indicate that fuzzy logic is both feasible and that the quality of the results are sufficiently good for reshoring decision-making.

  • Two decades of business negotiation research : an overview and suggestions for future studies
  • 2017
  • Ingår i: Journal of business & industrial marketing. - 0885-8624 .- 2052-1189. ; 32:4, s. 487-504
  • Forskningsöversikt (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Purpose - This paper aims to present a review of articles on business negotiation published between 1995 and 2015.Design/methodology/approach - This literature review is based on 490 articles on business negotiation.Findings - When analyzing the conceptual underpinnings of this field, two paradigms emerge as dominant. The most prominent paradigm is a cognitive, psychological approach, typically relying on experiments and statistical testing of findings. The second dominating paradigm is a behavioral one, largely concerned with mathematical modeling and game-theoretical models.Practical implications - Besides offering a description of the characteristics adhered to the business negotiation field, this paper will also suggest recommendations for further research and specify areas in which the research field needs further conceptual and empirical development.Originality/value - This literature review serves to be the first representation of the characteristics adhered to the budding research field of business negotiation.

  • The market intelligence impact on strategic performance in declining markets
  • 2017
  • Ingår i: International Journal of Applied Business and Economic Research. - : Serials Publications. - 0972-7302. ; 15:15, s. 457-473
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • This study examines how companies in declining markets operate in the context of market intelligence, responding to customer needs and applying them to strategic performance. A quantitative survey was sent to 214 public housing companies. The results indicate that market intelligence creates commitment and is significant. A positive relationship was found between data gathering, dissemination, and responsiveness, which indicates that the companies comprehend market needs but companies have difficult to manage construction strategies that improve strategic performance. There was a low value of strategic performance; a link between market intelligence and the chosen strategy was not confirmed. Companies know what the market wants but base their decision on previous strategic performance on economic conditions in the municipality instead.

  • Mitigating transportation disruptions in a supply chain : a cost-effective strategy
  • 2020
  • Ingår i: International Journal of Logistics. - : Taylor & Francis. - 1367-5567 .- 1469-848X. ; 23:2, s. 139-158
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Transportation disruptions can be damaging to a supply chain because goods may not arrive on time and this jeopardises the service level to the customers. While supply chain disruptions have gained significant attention from scholars, little has been done to explore these disruptions in the context of transportation. The study described in this paper aims to address disruptions occurring in the transportation of goods from a plant to a distribution centre. We modelled this real case to obtain insights on the effectiveness of different strategies to mitigate transportation disruptions. We evaluated four mitigation strategies and compared the outcomes in terms of service level and total costs: (1) the risk acceptance strategy, (2) the redundant stock strategy, (3) the flexible route strategy, and (4) the redundant-flexibility strategy. The results suggest that the best strategy differs depending on the budget that managers are willing to deploy to improve the service level. The simulation experiments and the use of the Incremental Cost Effectiveness Ratio (ICER) would be instrumental in helping decision makers in selecting the best disruption mitigation strategies where the best option would likely be different under varying circumstances.

  • Exploiting supplier innovativeness through knowledge integration
  • 2013
  • Ingår i: International Journal of Technology Management. - : InderScience Publishers. - 0267-5730 .- 1741-5276. ; 61:3-4, s. 237-253
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Firms are increasingly involving and relying on networks of suppliers and other external partners in their innovation processes. A successful exploitation of suppliers' technology and competencies is however challenging, not least in situations characterised by technological uncertainty. The main purpose of this study is to analyse how supplier innovativeness may be leveraged through internal knowledge integration capabilities in involving suppliers. The analysis is based on a survey of firms in Europe and North America. The study shows that innovative suppliers do contribute to a firm's innovation performance in terms of time–to–market and level of innovation in products/services. The main result is that an internal knowledge integration capability in terms of proficiency in supplier management and cross–functional decision making boosts innovation performance, in particular when technological uncertainty is high.

  • Open to a Select Few? Matching Partners and Knowledge Content for Open Innovation Performance
  • 2015
  • Ingår i: Creativity and Innovation Management. - : John Wiley & Sons. - 0963-1690 .- 1467-8691. ; 24:1, s. 72-86
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • The purpose of the paper is to illuminate the costs and benefits of crossing firm boundaries in inbound open innovation (OI) by determining the relationships among partner types, knowledge content and performance. The empirical part of the study is based on a survey of OI collaborations answered by R&D managers in 415 Italian, Finnish and Swedish firms. The results show that the depth of collaboration with different partners (academic/consultants, value chain partners, competitors and firms in other industries) is positively related to innovation performance, whereas the number of different partners and size have negative effects. The main result is that the knowledge content of the collaboration moderates the performance outcomes and the negative impact of having too many different kinds of partners. This illustrates how successful firms use selective collaboration strategies characterized by linking explorative and exploitative knowledge content to specific partners, to leverage the benefits and limit the costs of knowledge boundary crossing processes.
