På samtliga dessa nivåer framhålls vikten av att rättsstatens principer upprätthålls för att uppnå och skydda andra värden såsom demokrati, fri- och rättigheter och hållbar utveckling.Boken förklarar rättsstatens olika beståndsdelar och relevans, samt hur rättsstaten definieras och kommer till användning på internationell, europeisk och svensk nivå. I boken redogörs för de mest väsentliga aktörerna på de olika nivåerna, vilka betoningar och prioriteringar dessa har vad gäller rättsstatsprincipens innehåll, samt hur de relaterar, kommunicerar och på andra sätt interagerar med varandra. Författarna har en lång och bred erfarenhet av rättsstatsfrågor kopplat till både praktik och teori.

- From a comparative European perspective, Sweden is generally known as a country pursuing relatively liberal asylum policies. One distinguishing feature of Swedish immigration policy has been the principle that persons who are given asylum are immediately granted permanent residence (although the law allows exemptions from this under certain circumstances).This report gives an overview of the Swedish legal and policy framework of border management and migration control – how it relates to EU regulations and policies; what key actors are involved in the implementation and what the key issues and challenges are in relation to this field.

- In this chapter, the precautionary principle will be considered as the starting point for decision-making on chemicals in cases of scientific uncertainty. The principle will serve as the reference point for an analysis and a comparison of chemicals- policies and, in particular, of legislation for industrial chemicals in the European Union and the United States of America. In the second section, the precautionary principle will be described on a general level and operationalised with respect to chemicals management. The third section will focus on EU precautionary and chemicals policy and, in particular, on the recently adopted REACH regulation. A similar analysis will be made of US policies in the fourth section, with a focus on the Toxic Substances Control Act. In the fifth and concluding section, the results from the analyses will be compared and discussed with the aim to identify measures that could improve the management of chemicals under uncertainty.
