  • Personlig assistans - en arbetsrättslig limbo
  • 2017
  • Ingår i: Arbetsmarknad & Arbetsliv. - 1400-9692. ; 23:3, s. 24-24

  • Ecological and functional consequences of coastal ocean acidification : Perspectives from the Baltic-Skagerrak System
  • 2019
  • Ingår i: Ambio. - : Springer Science and Business Media LLC. - 0044-7447 .- 1654-7209. ; 48:8, s. 831-854
  • Forskningsöversikt (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Ocean temperatures are rising; species are shifting poleward, and pH is falling (ocean acidification, OA). We summarise current understanding of OA in the brackish Baltic-Skagerrak System, focussing on the direct, indirect and interactive effects of OA with other anthropogenic drivers on marine biogeochemistry, organisms and ecosystems. Substantial recent advances reveal a pattern of stronger responses (positive or negative) of species than ecosystems, more positive responses at lower trophic levels and strong indirect interactions in food-webs. Common emergent themes were as follows: OA drives planktonic systems toward the microbial loop, reducing energy transfer to zooplankton and fish; and nutrient/food availability ameliorates negative impacts of OA. We identify several key areas for further research, notably the need for OA-relevant biogeochemical and ecosystem models, and understanding the ecological and evolutionary capacity of Baltic-Skagerrak ecosystems to respond to OA and other anthropogenic drivers.

  • Citizenship, Migration, and Social Integration in Sweden: A Model for Europe?
  • 2007
  • Ingår i: CERIS Working Paper No.52, January 2007, Toronto, Canada.. ; :52, s. 73-
  • Forskningsöversikt (populärvet., debatt m.m.)abstract
    • Transnational migration has been a constant element of human existence. Admission andintegration of migrants has, in time, become an increasingly important element of decision-makingpolicies in many nations. Classifications of voluntary and involuntary migrants according to theirreasons for migrating and the socio-economic and political reasons for the acceptance of suchindividuals by the receiving countries have been the object of numerous national and internationalpieces of legislation. This has served to underscore the importance of belonging for all partiesinvolved: both migrants (more or less welcome in their adoptive countries) and states alike. In aformal sense, the ultimate signal of unlimited acceptance remains the granting of citizenship byhis/her new country to the “adoptee-resident.” Only citizens normally enjoy an unconditional rightto live and reside without restrictions in a given country. Traditionally, this ultimate form ofacceptance was (mutually) exclusive, which, for a long time, made it practically impossible for aperson to be a citizen of more than one state. Gradual globalization and an unprecedenteddevelopment of the very concept of citizenship, from a horizontal, national perspective to anemerging vertical, supra-national level (consider, for example, the concept of EU-citizenship andthe special case of the Nordic states), required, at some point, a redefinition and re-evaluation of theconcept of citizenship, in both formal legal and more informal terms. This paper examines thisredefinition and re-evaluation within the context of Sweden.

  • Crime and safety in rural areas : A systematic review of the English-language literature 1980-2020
  • 2022
  • Ingår i: Journal of Rural Studies. - : Elsevier BV. - 0743-0167 .- 1873-1392. ; 94, s. 250-273
  • Forskningsöversikt (refereegranskat)abstract
    • This article explores the nature and frequency of crimes and people's safety perceptions in rural areas using a systematic review of the literature. It explores four decades of English-language publications on crime and safety in rural areas from several major databases; mainly Scopus, JSTOR and ScienceDirect. The number of retrieved documents was 840, of which 410 were selected for in-depth analysis and their topics later categorized by theme. We found that rural crime research took off after the mid-1980s and experienced an increase during the 2010s. Despite the domination by North American, British and Australian scholarship, studies from other parts of the world (including the Global South) are increasingly being published as well. Publications on rural crime patterns (e.g., farm crime) compose over one-fifth of the reviewed literature. This together with rural policing/criminal justice and violence constitute the three largest themes in rural criminology research. With ever-increasing links between the local and the global, this review article advocates for tailored multilevel responses to rural crimes that, more than ever, are generated by processes far beyond their localities.

  • White Collar Crime : A Propositional Logical Analysis of a Concept
  • 2018
  • Ingår i: Journal of Forensic Sciences & Criminal Investigation. - : Juniper Publishers. - 2476-1311. ; 9:4
  • Forskningsöversikt (övrigt vetenskapligt/konstnärligt)abstract
    • In their book White-Collar Crime – An Opportunity Perspective (2009), Benson and Simpson undertake the task of more precisely denoting the concept of white-collar crime by its nature and how the causal structure of the object is meant to be understood. The aim of this article is to prove the logical consistency (validity and consequence) of Benson and Simpson’s derivation of the concept. The article focuses on the propositional explanation of causation, by applying first-order logic inference rules of sentential and predicate logic based on the rule of contraposition: a → b ↔ ¬b → ¬a. The results show that Benson and Simpsons’ argument is not logical valid, but logical consequent that is something that the agenda can build on.

  • Jurors' and Judges' Evaluation of Defendants with Autism and the Impact on Sentencing: A Systematic Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-analyses (PRISMA) Review of Autism Spectrum Disorder in the Courtroom
  • 2017
  • Ingår i: Journal of Law and Medicine. - 1320-159X. ; 25:1, s. 105-123
  • Forskningsöversikt (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Concern has been highlighted in the literature regarding how juries and judges handle cases which involve a defendant with autism spectrum disorder (ASD). The relatively little research on judicial perceptions or decision-making regarding individuals with ASD indicates that judges have limited understanding and familiarity with high-functioning ASD (hfASD) and ASD. The present systematic review will identify studies which investigate jurors' (eg using mock jurors) and/or judges' evaluations of defendants with ASD and studies which investigate whether the defendant diagnosis of ASD impacts on sentencing. Only four studies were identified which investigated jurors' and/or judges' evaluations of a defendant with an ASD or investigated whether the defendant diagnosis of ASD impacts on sentencing. Further research is recommended which should include an evaluation of cases involving a defendant with an hfASD or ASD diagnosis comparing charges, pleas entered, procedural adjustments at court, evidence adduced about the defendant's condition, directions to juries, judicial remarks on the evidence (eg summing-up for the jury), verdicts and sentencing. This would enable the assessment of the specific offending behaviour and disorder of the defendant, and how these may be relevant to their mental capacity and culpability.

  • Explaining the Great American Crime Decline : A Review of Blumstein and Wallman, Goldberger and Rosenfeld, and Zimring
  • 2010
  • Ingår i: Law and Social Inquiry. - : Cambridge University Press (CUP). - 0897-6546 .- 1747-4469. ; 35:2, s. 489-516
  • Forskningsöversikt (refereegranskat)abstract
    • This essay reviews three books as they document and explain the 1990s crime decline: Alfred Blumstein and Joel Wallman, eds., (2006) The Crime Drop in America; Arthur S. Goldberger and Richard Rosenfeld, eds., (2008) Understanding Crime Patterns: Workshop Report; and Franklin E. Zimring (2007), The Great American Crime Decline. It presents the empirical detail of the crime decline and examines the most commonly cited explanatory factors: imprisonment, policing, demography, and economic growth. It then suggests alternative lines of research in urban sociology—urban development, youth culture, and immigration—that may better explain the decline as the result of changes in the cultural and social fabric of American society, particularly in cities where the steepest declines occurred.

  • Is 'legal empowerment of the poor' relevant to people with disabilities in developing countries? An empirical and normative review.
  • 2013
  • Ingår i: Global Health Action. - : Informa UK Limited. - 1654-9880 .- 1654-9716. ; 6:22854, s. 1-15
  • Forskningsöversikt (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Background : Legal empowerment of the poor is highly relevant to public health as it aims to relieve income poverty, a main determinant of health. The Commission on Legal Empowerment of the Poor (CLEP) has proposed legal empowerment measures in the following four domains: access to justice and the rule of law, property, labor, and business rights. Despite being overrepresented among the poor, CLEP has not explicitly considered the situation of people with disabilities. Objectives : To examine the empirical evidence for the relevance of the CLEP legal empowerment measures to people with disabilities in low- and lower middle-income countries, and to evaluate the extent to which the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (CRPD) addresses those measures. Methods : Critical literature review of empirical studies and a checklist assessment of the CRPD. Results : Fourteen included articles confirm that people with disabilities experience problems in the domains of access to justice and the rule of law, labor rights, and business rights. No texts on property rights were found. Evidence for the effectiveness of the proposed measures is insufficient. Overall, the CRPD fully or partially supports two-thirds of the proposed measures (seven out of nine measures for access to justice and the rule of law, none of the five measures for property rights, all seven measures for labor rights, and six out of nine measures for business rights). Conclusions : Although most of the domains of the CLEP legal empowerment measures are relevant to people with disabilities from both empirical and normative perspectives, it is uncertain whether the devised measures are of immediate relevance to them. Further research is warranted in this regard.
