  • Post- och teleutvecklingens drivkrafter och konsekvenser : En forskningsöversikt
  • 1991

  • Attitudes on intensive forestry : an investigation into perceptions of increased production requirements in Swedish forestry
  • 2012
  • Ingår i: Scandinavian Journal of Forest Research. - : Taylor & Francis Group. - 0282-7581 .- 1651-1891. ; 27:5, s. 438-448
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • In 2008, the Swedish government launched an inquiry into the possibilities, benefits and requirements for conducting intensive forestry in part of the Swedish countryside, including fertilization, genetically improved plant material and fastgrowing species beyond what is currently allowed in Swedish legislation. Drawing upon part of that governmental investigation, this paper analyzes attitudes toward intensive forestry over time. The study draws upon studies of points of conflict written in the 1970s and 1980s, attitudes among different stakeholder groups, and interviews with forest owners and stakeholder groups potentially affected by intensive forestry. The study concludes that the diverging opinions as to what constitutes acceptable forest use have remained largely the same over the years. Radical landscape change is generally not seen as desirable, but views diverge over the use of novel tree species and the use of fertilization.

  • Individual forest owners in context
  • 2017
  • Ingår i: Globalisation and change in forest ownership and forest use. - Ume : Palgrave Macmillan. - 9781137571151 - 9781137571168 ; , s. 57-95
  • Bokkapitel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • In this chapter, changes that have taken place on an overarching level in society, such as globalisation, supranational agencies, privatisation and restitution, are discussed from the forest owners' perspective. The forces influencing forest owners and forest ownership as described in Chap. 2 in this volume are scrutinised and interpreted here on a micro level. Urbanisation, economic restructuring, demographic change and new ownership constellations are both drivers and consequences of changes in lifestyles, forest owner identity, place attachment and attitudes to the forest resource.

  • Survey questionnaires : data collection for understanding management conditions
  • 2023
  • Ingår i: Monitoring biodiversity. - London : Routledge. - 9781032015941 - 9781032015934 - 9781003179245 ; , s. 247-260, s. 247-260
  • Bokkapitel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • This chapter focuses on the use of questionnaire surveys to quantitatively assess how people's attitudes and behaviours affect land use and land management. Questionnaires are an established method of improving our knowledge of how different land users (e.g. small-scale forest owners or farmers) and the public think about, respond to, and potentially evade issues of interest. The chapter defines questionnaires, describes their design, and discusses how questionnaires from different countries or from a regional context can be compared. In common with other chapters in this book, the goal is to clarify the extent to which the methodology can capture varying contexts and deliver an understanding of information about differences in the areas for which the studies are designed. Figures and tables contain examples from multi-national questionnaires about land management and how questionnaires can be used in monitoring.

  • From pragmatism to meritocracy? Views on in- house family ties on the Swedish labour market
  • 2019
  • Ingår i: Fennia-International Journal of Geography. - : Fennia - International Journal of Geography. - 0015-0010 .- 1798-5617. ; 197:2, s. 268-279
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • In-house family ties within workplaces are a non-negligible phenomenon on the labour market. Drawing on organizational and geographical perspectives and based on thematic analysis of 40 interviews with human resource managers, we analyse how family ties are viewed and managed in organizations on the Swedish labour market. Based on the empirical analysis, we suggest that there are two different logics of human resource management concerning in-house family ties: a traditional, pragmatic and informal logic which expresses an accepting view; and a modern, meritocratic and formal logic associated with a disapproving view. Moreover, the informal logic seems to be increasingly challenged by formalization of human resource processes in both urban and rural settings. However, the analysis indicates that in smaller labour markets this shift is somewhat restrained by the limited supply of labour and socially tight knit local communities. Also, it seems that the change often meets resistance from supporters of the informal logic, and there is dissonance across different professional groups across and within organizations.

  • Recreation in different forest settings : a scene preference study
  • 2012
  • Ingår i: Forests. - : MDPI AG. - 1999-4907 .- 1999-4907. ; 3:4, s. 923-943
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Recreation  activity  preferences  in  forest  settings  were  explored  in  a  scene preference  study.  The  importance  of  type  of  human  intervention   and  the  level  of biodiversity for preference and intention to engage in recreation activities were examined in a sample of forestry and social science students in Sweden. Results showed that forestry students displayed an almost equally strong preference for natural-looking  scenes as for scenes  with traces  of recreation  (e.g., paths),  whereas  social  science  students  preferred recreational scenes the most. Least preferred were scenes with traces of forest management. Different  forest  settings  were  furthermore  preferred  for  different  recreation  activities. Recreational settings were favored for walking and going on outings, and natural-looking settings were more appreciated for picking berries or mushrooms. Respondents displayed a stronger intention to study plants and animals in high biodiversity settings and the intention to  exercise  was  stronger  in  low  biodiversity  settings.  Implications  for  future  land  use planning and forest management are discussed.
