- Denna rapport introducerar det forskningsfält som uppstår när landsbygdsforskning och civilsamhällesforskning möts. Texterna i rapporten presenterades vid en konferens som genomfördes 2021 av en grupp forskare som är verksamma inom civilsamhällesforskning och landsbygdsforskning. Som framgår av konferensens titel, ”Landsbygdernas och de mindre orternas civilsamhällen”, skulle den ge möjlighet för dessa två forskningsområden att mötas och fördjupa varandra. Rapporten är tänkt som en ingång till aktuell forskning på detta tema och vi tror den kan vara intressant läsning för både aktiva inom civilsamhällets organisationer och verksamma inom myndigheter, regioner och kommuner som relaterar till landsbygdernas civilsamhälle i sitt arbete.Rapporten inleds med ett kapitel som kortfattat och översiktligt beskriver hur civilsamhällesforskning och landsbygdsforskning växt fram och diskuterar behovet av forskning som sätter fokus på landsbygdernas och de mindre orternas civilsamhällen. De inkluderade kapitlen presenterar forskning där landsbygdernas civilsamhällen studerats med olika metoder och ur flera olika perspektiv.I den första delen av rapporten presenteras forskning som beskriver skillnader och likheter i civilsamhällesengagemang mellan städer och landsbygd i Sverige, behandlar hur tillgång till service också kan påverka tillit till institutioner och diskuterar betydelsen av känslor i relation till civilsamhällesengagemang och samhällsutveckling. Vidare presenteras en övergripande bild av kunskapsläget om social innovation som svar på landsbygdens samhällsutmaningar, med särskilt fokus på civilsamhällets roll och samverkan med andra samhällsaktörer.Utifrån en studie av civilsamhällesprojekt finansierade med offentliga medel diskuteras också hur de ekonomiska bidragsresurserna omvandlas till immateriella resurser till nytta för lokaldesamhället. Rapporten innehåller också kapitel som diskuterar civilsamhällets alternativa bildningsvägar som utgår från platsers egna premisser, sociala rörelser för hållbarhet på den svensk-samiska landsbygden samt ett kapitel som diskuterar hur medborgarskapet omformas när boende i landsbygder och mindre orter i större utsträckning behöver förlita sig på civilsamhällets lösningar för att få tillgång till vardaglig service och grundläggande infrastruktur.

- This study examines how childhoods are constructed within the assessment process concerning respite care for children with disabilities in Sweden. The social workers need to take into consideration the needs of the child with disabilities as well as those of the parents and siblings. The application for respite care compels the social worker to prioritise needs, evaluate children’s development and define what constitutes a good childhood. One of the results of such a process is a construction of childhood for children with disabilities which contains a strong focus on practising and developing, whereas their siblings are perceived as needing relaxation and quality time with their parents. It matches the childhood sociological concepts of ‘becomings’ and ‘beings’, where children with disabilities are stressed as ‘becoming’ and continually needing to develop their skills.

- In 2019 we organized a conference casting light on the housing crisis and especially on the historical and contemporary organization of tenants to contest housing inequalities. By placing housing struggles and tenants’ organization at the centre of the debate we aimed at exposing and politicizing current capitalist development and, hopefully, at proposing a different view of how housing can be organized and imagined by discussing how resistance can be used, with what effects and how it can be connected to other struggles. This special issue is a result of this conference dealing with tenants’ organization in different contexts examining how tenants organize(d), why and what could be learned from it. In this introducing text we give an overview of this field of research by asking why tenants’ mobilizations are important to study, what is still under-studied in the field and which perspectives are important to raise in future research.

- The aim of this thesis is to examine the relations between local government and voluntary organisations in two Swedish cities - Stockholm and Göteborg - with regard to the issue of homelessness, and to analyse how these relations have changed during the 1990's. A further aim is to explore to what extent different localities, due to variations in the economic and political context, vary in their responses to influences and pressures from the outside, e.g. from the central state. These variations, it is assumed, result in different approaches to local welfare production and, as part of that, different views on how to care for the homeless, and also create differences in the relations between local government and voluntary organisations. A qualitative methodology has been used in the two case studies. Most of the data have been gathered through personal interviews with informants from the local governments and the voluntary organisations respectively, supplemented with different kinds of documentary information. The comparative analysis indicates that, although social policy in Sweden is rather strictly regulated at the central state level, there are differences on the local level with respect to relations between the local government and voluntary organisations. In short, there are local modes of welfare production. In Stockholm, the voluntary organisations cooperate with local government agencies, but they have in particular staked out a niche of their own - to care for the most deprived of the homeless. The voluntary organisations in Göteborg, in contrast, have become an integrated part of a restructured local government.
