  • Digital sociologi : Att undervisa i sociologi under en pandemi
  • 2021
  • Ingår i: Sociologisk forskning. - Huddinge : Sociologisk Forskning, Swedish Sociological Association. - 0038-0342 .- 2002-066X. ; 58:4, s. 467-482
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract

  • 2021
  • Ingår i: Sociologisk forskning. - Huddinge : Sveriges sociologförbund. - 0038-0342 .- 2002-066X. ; 58:1-2, s. 33-51
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract

  • 2016
  • Ingår i: Sociologisk forskning. - Falun : Swedish Sociological Association. - 0038-0342 .- 2002-066X. ; 53:2, s. 151-174
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Normalizing problematized youth by governing their parents: From structural explanations to family-centred solutions The current article explores the ways that organizational representatives outline the causes of and propose solutions to the problematic behaviour of youth living in, what is described as, an immigrant neighbourhood in a Swedish city. The empirical material, consisting of interviews with representatives from various organizations (such as the police, schools, social services and NGOs) as well as field observations, has been analyzed using the theory of governmentality. The causes of problematic youth behaviour are related to disadvantaged immigrant urban space, unemployment, unstable home situations and family relations, and parents’ deviant norms, knowledge and culture. In the discourses about causes and solutions, a recurring frame of reference is the issue of immigration in general and parent’s migrant background in particular. In spite of the complexity of the proposed causes, the pronounced solutions are directed towards the fostering of immigrant parents, the establishment of zones of communication and early prevention. Hence, the prevailing solutions are permeated by discourses of activation of parents.

    • Living with a global pandemic. A study of people's worries in relation to Covid-19 in SwedenCovid-19 as a health crisis has affected all spheres of private and public life, both nationally and internationally, locally and globally. This article aims to contribute knowledge about people's levels of worry during the pandemic's first phase in Sweden.Worry is examined in relation to sociodemographic background, social capital, and judgements concerning potential threats and the national measures implemented. The theoretical framework utilized resides upon concepts and theories of worry and social capital. The data was collected in Sweden in April and May 2020 through an online survey of experiences of the Covid-19 pandemic.Multiple regression analysis and multiple correspondence analysis revealed that higher levels of worry were closely associated both with the judgement that the national measures implemented were not correct, and with the perception that Covid-19 as an illness comprised a greater threat than its financial and social consequences. These factors were also related to advanced age, chronic illness, and lower levels of social capital. Our findings point to the need for further sociological research - both quantitative and qualitative - concerning the pandemic's various consequences in everyday life.

  • 2022
  • Ingår i: Sociologisk forskning. - Huddinge : Sveriges sociologförbund. - 0038-0342 .- 2002-066X. ; 59:1–2, s. 177-202
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • The social meaning of children’s participation in family law proceedingsEver since the Convention of the Rights of the Child, we have seen a wide variety of interpre- tations on the meaning of “children’s participation.” A critical perspective, based on a social phenomenology, is here suggested to disclose the taken-for-grantedness implicit in both policy and theoretical accounts relating to the phenomenon of children’s participation. Within the situation of family law proceedings in Sweden, children’s participation will be explored in rela- tion to its intersubjective constitution in the social world and in the manifold of sub-worlds in which it appears. It is argued that a social phenomenological approach makes it possible to explicate what we mean by children’s participation in the context of policy within the situation of family law proceedings, and to thus open up for a way to approach this phenomenon based on critical reflection.

  • Europeisk familjelycka : Om användandet av familjemetaforen i EU
  • 2009
  • Ingår i: Sociologisk forskning. - : Sveriges sociologförbund. - 0038-0342 .- 2002-066X. ; 46:1, s. 46-66
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • The re-unification of a family of nations: usages of the family metaphor in the EUThis article analyses usages of the family metaphor in the EU. It starts up with a scrutiny of feminist theories of the nation-as-family metaphor. Introducing the concept of domopolitics, the author infers that the family, on the one hand, connotes to feelings of security and homelyness and, on the other hand, fears of the well-known, of immanent threats to in-group cohesion. The significance of the family metaphor in the EU rhetoric connects to a renewed emphasis on distinct values, principles and norms that balance the otherwise technocratic image of the EU. He further applies the nation-as-family metaphor to contemporary EU rhetoric. In the analysis, he infers that all three dimensions of the metaphor (ethnic, civil and hierarchic) are manifest in the EU political language making its use an enterprise that strives at moving beyond, but not completely away from the nation-state paradigm.

  • When the media matters for electoral performance
  • 2018
  • Ingår i: Sociologisk forskning. - : Sveriges sociologförbund. - 0038-0342 .- 2002-066X. ; 55:2-3, s. 249-266
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • In this article, we analyse the connection between media exposure and opinion polls for political parties or "the media influence". We compare two parliamentary periods in Sweden: 2006-2010 and 2010-2014. Our results show that the media is important for the anti-immigration party, the Sweden Democrats (SD) in the first period. This is not the case, or at least less so, for the other parliamentary parties. In the second period, media exposure wanes in importance for explaining poll fluctuations as well as shifts from national to regional media for the Sweden Democrats. These findings are in consonance with previous research which underlines that the media's influence on electoral performance differs before and after the party has crossed the electoral threshold to the national parliament.

  • Children Reared in Sectarian Groups
  • 2020
  • Ingår i: The Encyclopedia of Child and Adolescent Development. - : Wiley Online Library. - 9781119161899
  • Bokkapitel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • A broad definition of what constitutes a sectarian group is social and theological deviance and/or innovation, often paired with some level of critique of and isolation or withdrawal from society. It is impossible to say how many children (under the age of 18) worldwide grow up in so-called sectarian groups. There are primarily three reasons why such an estimation is problematic: the definitions of the terms new religions, cults, and sectarian groups vary according to time and location; the nature of sectarian groups tends to encompass withdrawal from society, which means that the beliefs of a group may not be known to wider society; and the groups are often wary about stating or have no knowledge of their own membership figures, sometimes due to unclear definitions of membership. This entry examines various impacts of the ways in which sectarian groups interact with socialization, education, health, and abuse, and the possible consequences for children reared in such groups.
