    • This article contains a study of how spatial errors and receiver imperfections affect the angle of arrival estimation accuracy for virtual antenna arrays. A virtual antenna array consists of one receiver element whose location is tracked as the element is moved and in this work, linear arrays are studied. If the location of the receiver is tracked using an inertial measurement unit, an interesting trade-off emerges. The array should extend as far as possible but since the position estimates from the unaided inertial measurement unit become increasingly uncertain over time, the angle of arrival estimation will deteriorate. Several algorithms are available for estimating the angle of arrival in such a scenario but the one used for evaluation here is a sparse enforcing least squares method.

  • Radio and IMU based indoor positioning and tracking
  • 2012
  • Ingår i: 2012 19th International Conference on Systems, Signals and Image Processing (IWSSIP). - 9781457721915 ; , s. 32-35
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Navigation using inertial measurement units (IMUs) is an interesting area of research. Due to the low cost hardware and simple implementation, the approach looks very attractive. But the performance of the IMUs to provide sub-meter accuracy over a longer period of time is still not sufficient, so different approaches have been adopted to increase the performance at the cost of extra hardware and/or infrastructure. Our solution is based on the use of already existing radio infrastructure, where amplitude and phase variations in a received radio signal at the user terminal is used together with the IMU to do a tightly coupled estimation of navigation and radio signalmultipath components. The results show that the approach has the potential to enhance the performance of IMU based navigation significantly.

  • Direction of Arrival Estimation with Arbitrary Virtual Antenna Arrays using Low Cost Inertial Measurement Units
  • 2013
  • Ingår i: [Host publication title missing]. ; , s. 79-83
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • In this paper, we have investigated the use of virtual antenna arrays at the receiver to do single antenna direction-of-arrival estimation. The array coordinates are obtained by doing simple dead reckoning using acceleration and angular speed measurements from a low cost micro-electro-mechanical system inertial measurement unit (IMU). The proposed solution requires no extra hardware in terms of receiver chains and antenna elements. Direction-of-arrival estimation results are obtained using a high resolution SAGE algorithm. Measurement results show that the direction-of-arrival can be estimated with a reasonable accuracy in an indoor environment.

  • Multi-Armed Bandits in Brain-Computer Interfaces
  • 2022
  • Ingår i: Frontiers in Human Neuroscience. - : Frontiers Media S.A.. - 1662-5161. ; 16
  • Forskningsöversikt (refereegranskat)abstract
    • The multi-armed bandit (MAB) problem models a decision-maker that optimizes its actions based on current and acquired new knowledge to maximize its reward. This type of online decision is prominent in many procedures of Brain-Computer Interfaces (BCIs) and MAB has previously been used to investigate, e.g., what mental commands to use to optimize BCI performance. However, MAB optimization in the context of BCI is still relatively unexplored, even though it has the potential to improve BCI performance during both calibration and real-time implementation. Therefore, this review aims to further describe the fruitful area of MABs to the BCI community. The review includes a background on MAB problems and standard solution methods, and interpretations related to BCI systems. Moreover, it includes state-of-the-art concepts of MAB in BCI and suggestions for future research.

  • Sensor Fused Indoor Positioning Using Dual Band WiFi Signal Measurements
  • 2015
  • Ingår i: 2015 European Control Conference (ECC). - 9783952426937 ; , s. 1669-1672
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • In this paper, signal strengths from known WiFi access points are used together with a particle filter to perform indoor navigation. It is shown that more information is obtained by using signals of both 2.4 and 5.0 GHz, compared to using only one frequency. Thus, using both frequencies provides a more accurate positioning. The second contribution is an algorithm where WiFi measurements are combined with pedestrian dead reckoning (PDR), which is based on step counting using an accelerometer and hypotheses of the heading using a gyroscope. This was found to provide further accuracy compared to more conventional methods.

  • Improving EEG-based decoding of the locus of auditory attention through domain adaptation
  • 2023
  • Ingår i: Journal of Neural Engineering. - : Institute of Physics (IOP). - 1741-2560 .- 1741-2552. ; 20:6
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Objective. This paper presents a novel domain adaptation (DA) framework to enhance the accuracy of electroencephalography (EEG)-based auditory attention classification, specifically for classifying the direction (left or right) of attended speech. The framework aims to improve the performances for subjects with initially low classification accuracy, overcoming challenges posed by instrumental and human factors. Limited dataset size, variations in EEG data quality due to factors such as noise, electrode misplacement or subjects, and the need for generalization across different trials, conditions and subjects necessitate the use of DA methods. By leveraging DA methods, the framework can learn from one EEG dataset and adapt to another, potentially resulting in more reliable and robust classification models. Approach. This paper focuses on investigating a DA method, based on parallel transport, for addressing the auditory attention classification problem. The EEG data utilized in this study originates from an experiment where subjects were instructed to selectively attend to one of the two spatially separated voices presented simultaneously. Main results. Significant improvement in classification accuracy was observed when poor data from one subject was transported to the domain of good data from different subjects, as compared to the baseline. The mean classification accuracy for subjects with poor data increased from 45.84% to 67.92%. Specifically, the highest achieved classification accuracy from one subject reached 83.33%, a substantial increase from the baseline accuracy of 43.33%. Significance. The findings of our study demonstrate the improved classification performances achieved through the implementation of DA methods. This brings us a step closer to leveraging EEG in neuro-steered hearing devices. © 2023 The Author(s). Published by IOP Publishing Ltd.

  • 2004
  • Konferensbidrag (övrigt vetenskapligt/konstnärligt)abstract
    • This article gives a presentation of the Automatic Gain Control algorithm used in WCDMA (3rd generation mobile networks). The focus is on how the controller bandwidth influences settling times and modulation distortion. This will be investigated through simulation for two different channel cases.
