  • 'I can play!' : Young children's perceptions of health
  • 2006
  • Ingår i: Pediatric Rehabilitation. - London : Taylor & Francis. - 1363-8491 .- 1464-5270. ; 9:3, s. 275-284
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Health is today viewed as a multi-dimensional concept partly conceptualized independent from not being ill. The aim of this study was to gain knowledge of how young children perceive health. Interviews were conducted with 68 children (4–5 years), within their pre-school setting, with the help of a semi-structured interview guide. A multi-dimensional perspective represented by the health dimensions of the International Classification of Functioning, Disability and Health (ICF) was used in a manifest deductive content analysis. The children's statements were categorized and placed under one of the four health dimensions, body, activity, participation and environment. A latent content analysis was applied to identify underlying themes in the manifest categories. The results revealed that young children perceive health as a multi-dimensional construct, largely related to being engaged, i.e. to be able to perform wanted activities and participate in a supportive every-day context. This implies that improvements of child engagement should be emphasized in health promotion and to a greater extent be the central focus of health interventions for young children.

  • Användning av alkolås som kvalitetssäkringsverktyg inom transportsektorn
  • 2006

  • Registered Nurses working together with family members of older people
  • 2006
  • Ingår i: Journal of Clinical Nursing. - : Wiley. - 0962-1067 .- 1365-2702. ; 15:3, s. 281-289
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Aim. The aim of the study was to reach a more profound understanding, through looking at nurses' working situation, of those factors that influence how nurses are able to work together with family members of older people living in nursing homes or similar facilities. Background. Working with the care of older people as a Registered Nurse provides a varied job with many challenges. Nurses have to co-operate with family members of those in community health care. Co-operation is important and necessary for all involved. Design. Nurses working in elder care in a geographically defined area received a questionnaire with three open-ended questions, on the difficulties and/or problems involved with working together with family members, and the positive or negative aspects of this co-operation. Methods. Analysis was carried out using the latent content analysis method. Results. Three themes, problems within the system, interaction with families and caring in nursing work, are presented with categories and their subcategories. The nurses wanted their superior to be a nurse so that their working situation would be better understood. Appreciation from their superior and family members was also a very important part of their work as nurses in community health care. The frequent changes and the lack of time in the work of elder care often put nurses under considerable psychological pressure. For the most part family members are a resource for the elder, but sometimes they will avoid contact, which will make co-operating difficult. Conclusion. Registered Nurses and family members are dependent on each other in their care of the elder. Relevance to clinical practice. More attention should be paid to the working situation of Registered Nurses in community health care, and their ability to work together with family members of older people.

  • Privacy and Protection of Personal Integrity in the Working Place
  • 2006
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Privacy and surveillance is a topic with growing importance for working places.Today's rapid technical development has a considerable impact on privacy. The aim ofthis paper is an analysis of the relation between privacy and workplace surveillance. Theexisting techniques, laws and ethical theories and practices are considered. The workplace is an official place par excellence. With modern technique it is easy toidentify and keep under surveillance individuals at the workplace where everything fromsecurity-cameras to programs for monitoring of computer usage may bring about nearly atotal control of the employees and their work effort. How much privacy can we expect at our workplaces? Can electronic methods ofmonitoring and surveillance be ethically justified? A critical analysis of the idea ofprivacy protection versus surveillance or monitoring of employees is presented. One central aspect of the problem is the trend toward the disappearance of boundariesbetween private and professional life. Users today may work at their laptop computers atany place. People send their business e-mails from their homes, even while travelling oron vacations. How can a strict division be made between private and official informationin a future world pervaded with ubiquitous computers? The important fact is that not everybody is aware of the existence of surveillance, andeven fewer people are familiar with privacy-protection methods. That is something whichdemands knowledge as well as engagement. The privacy right of the working force isgrounded in the fundamental human right of privacy recognized in all major internationalagreements regarding human rights such as Article 12 of the Universal Declaration ofHuman Rights (United Nations, 1948).The conclusion is that trust must be established globally in the use of ICT (informationand communication technology), so that both users (cultural aspect) and the technologywill be trustworthy. That is a long-term project which already has started.
