  • 文化转型:瑞典三个移民群体的文化 转型和行为实践 (Culture change: transformation of cultural values and behavioral practices among three migrant groups in Sweden)
  • 2015
  • Ingår i: 文化冲突 与跨文化传播 (Cultural conflicts and Intercultural communication). - 武汉市 (Wuhan, China) : 社会科学文献出版社 (Social Sciences Academic Press).
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Culture change probably occurs in all national cultures. It is a continuous process which might be accelerated under specific conditions. One of possible catalysts is resettlement of individuals or groups to another country. We believe that analyzing such accelerated culture change can provide valuable insights regarding the nature of cultural transformations. In order to investigate that, the study examines experiences of immigrants from the Russian Federation, Iran and the People’s Republic of China living in Sweden. The focus is on tracing the changes of cultural values and behavioral practices. Which values are more stable during acculturation and which are relatively flexible? Which cultural values do immigrants preserve and which do they take over from the host country? The study is based on nineteen in-depth interviews and presents examples of cultural changes and their causes in the three groups. This study reveals that cultural change may be seen as an undulation process with regard to the residence time of immigrants and the width and depth of communication with the host society. Several hypotheses stimulating and restraining culture change are discussed.

  • China's Urban Gender Wage Gap: A New Direction?
  • 2017
  • Ingår i: The Latest Changes of Income Distribution Pattern in China - A study on the income distribution of Chinese residents (V). - Beijing, Kina : China Financial & Economic Publishing House. - 9787509578971 ; , s. 285-326
  • Bokkapitel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Using data from the urban household surveys of the China Household Income Project for the years 1995, 2002, 2007 and 2013, we provide consistent estimates of the gender wage gap in urban China and investigate those factors that have contributed to this gap. Similar to past studies, we find a substantial and progressive widening of the gap from 1995 to 2007. Based on new data for 2013, however, we find that from 2007 to 2013 the gender wage gap narrowed. For 2013 we estimate the gender wage gap at between 19 percent and 25 percent. Oaxaca- Blinder decompositions reveal that the contributions of the differences in characteristics between women and men to the wage gap declined over time, and by 2013 the gap is largely unexplained. We identify key factors underlying the gender wage gap in recent years, specifically, individual characteristics, such as age, education, marriage, and children, as well as employment sector and occupation

  • European older adults’ suicide and well-being in the context of welfare state and family: Revisiting relevant theories
  • 2017
  • Ingår i: Injury Medicine(Electronic Edition). - 2095-1566. ; 6:4, s. 62-66
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Objective This article explored older adults’ suicide and well-being in the context of welfare state and family, and revisited relevant theories. Methods European countries studied were divided based on their socio-political and welfare organization. The intergenerational family solidarity model was used. The analyses used the data from the database of European Commission funded project ‘European Alliance against Depression’ (EAAD), the World Health Organization (WHO) European Mortality Database (EMDB), European Social Survey (ESS) database, Eurostat database, and the database of the study ‘Value of Children and Intergenerational Relations Cross-Cultural Study’ (VOC). Results Across the European countries studied, suicide rates of older adults had inverse relationship with subjective well-being (e.g. correlation coefficient between suicide rates and subjective general health -0.72, p<0.05; life satisfaction -0.51, p<0.05). Welfare states exert influence on subjective well-being, and thus may lead to variations in risk of suicide at the individual level. Intergenerational relationships in families play an important role in the life satisfaction of older adults. Conclusions The mixed responsibility of welfare state and family towards older adults’ suicide and well-being could be the focus of future ageing research. Social and cultural perspectives in this respect could be further taken into consideration.
