- "Att förstå rådgivning till småföretagare" is a study concerning aspects on advising small-firm managers. The strategy is to penetrate different aspects of the advisory fundtion in order to understand it better. Three distinct aspects have been chosen. On a basis of the consulting literature and the author´s own experience as an advisor to small firms a normative/pragmatic perspective on advising is presented in a critical way. A picture of the advice-needing client and the professional consultant is painted and questioned. The second aspect is through narrative, based on interviews with small-firm managers. Their stories are interpreted in order to uncover hidden meanings in their concept of advising. With the help of the concept of client identities the small-firm managers´paradoxically low demand on consulting services can be resolved. In the third and last aspect a few advisory events are viewed through the lens of the micropractices of power. Here power and knowledge are seen as inseparable based on some of Foucault´s works. Interpretation of the advisory events shows how small-firm managers are clientified in power relations. In the study finally is shown how the three aspects can be used together to gain a fuller understanding of advising small-firm managers than any single aspect can do. A new view of advising is suggested in which the degree of asymmetry in the relations and of ambiguity in the advising situation are taken into consideration.

- The overall purpose of this thesis is to make a critical analysis of the criteria problem inherent in stakeholder evaluation, especially the problem of how to select different criteria in a situation of rapid political change and conflict among different stakeholder groups in the programme context. The aim is also to make a critical examination of the possibilities for a fair and just evaluation of official educational and social programmes.The study is composed of four sections. In the first section the research problem and the aims of the study are introduced. Then the theoretical basis of the study and the connection with the theories of evaluation are discussed. The second section of the thesis contains a deeper analysis of political changes in society and an examination of the circumstances and development lines of the evaluation and the stakeholder evaluation.In the third section the case study and an analysis of different judgement criteria and conflicts of the interest groups are presented. The fourth section contains a discussion of strategies for handling the problems emerging in the shape of general criteria, e.g. social justice, or of contextual equity criteria. Possibilities for a powerffee dialogue between the interest groups, in order to agree upon certain common criteria, are examined in a critical way. How different judgements can be structured together by consensus is analysed from a cognitive and an action-oriented perspective. At the end, some reflections are done about the stakeholder evaluation, its political dimensions and the connections between evaluation theory and political philosopy and political theory.The thesis shows that evaluation of official programmes places the evaluation in the centre of a political context with different stakeholder groups and conflicts. The thesis makes clear that a more explicit perspective of political theory could be a constructive way forward for the further development of evaluation theory.

- This dissertation is a social psychological study of the influence of science on everyday thinking. The specific focus is the way in which mass media, as an intermediate arena of knowledge in society, accepts or rejects scientific concepts and findings. Particularly, it concerns the phenomenon that the Swedish mass media calls "the inexplicable violence". The thesis points to a journalistic independence from science. On the one hand this refers to the condition, that the journalist can reject the legitimacy of scientific explanations to violence. On the other hand it illuminates the establishment of independent links of knowledge, between the journalist and everyday man. This work consists of three main arguments for a journalistic independence from science. The first argument demonstrates how the scientific expert and the journalist differ in their interpretations of violence. While the scientific expert refers to social, biological, psychological or medical causes, the journalistic thinking is based upon a moralistic perception in terms of motives. The second argument deepens the understanding of the moral rationality in mass media. It shows in detail how the moral pathos gives rise to a distinct set of assumptions, differing from the presuppositions of the scientific experts. The third and final argument, establishes a connection between the journalist and "the everyday thinker". The purpose of this concept is not only to show that everyday man could reject science and formulate his own knowledge. It also suggests that even when accepted, science could not give self-evident and unquestionable answers to social problems.

- Much of what we know about the capital budgeting routines of majorcorporations derives from postal surveys sent to the head office. This articlecompares the results gained from such surveys with those obtained fromanalyses of investment manuals and interviews with corporate managers incharge of the capital budgeting routines of their groups. The analyses suggestthat the value of postal surveys can be substantially improved if information isalso collected on to whom and to which parts of the organization anadministrative routine is applicable, and on whether it is to be found in awritten and approved document; where the routine is applied, by whom, andhow strictly.
