Alfabetisering : en fråga om kultur och tänkande

• Culture and thought in the acquisition of literacy is a study of Turkish rural migrant women in a suburb of Stockholm. It is an anthropological description of the process of becoming literate, of the functions that are served by the ability to read and write, and of the way this ability is used in everyday life.The report demonstrates that the women's evaluation of and motivation, opportunities and resources for different forms of communication are influenced not only by their social history but also by factors in their new environment.This description gives some insight in to the women's domestic and social experiences which helps us to a better understanding of their thoughts and actions in the class room, the literacy course and working life. It helps us to distinguish the elements of continuity and change in their language use.
