Mediating education : the media as co-constructor of education policy

• This paper aims at examining the media as a co-constructor of education policy. The material used consists of international explorations and studies including an earlier conducted study of mine as a case study of a Swedish context. This study approaches the question of the functions of the media in framing education in specific ways. The paper focuses on the question of how the media works as to establish a situation for the educational system, form school discursively and positioning the partners involved in education and political consequences of this. Specific interest is given to media framing of education in relation to political reforms within educational systems.
