Folkmun och Luxikon : En jämförelse mellan två användargenererade ordbokssajter

• This study examines two user-generated web dictionaries dedicated to the Swedish language: Folkmun.se and Luxikon.se. These web sites are well suited for comparison since both of them have been launched by non-lexicographers (approx. in 2007–2008), are freely available and contains 2500–4000 headwords (lemmas).The headwords in the two dictionaries are similar, in the sense that they contain a high frequency of slang and dialect words. However, Folkmun.se deals with more bad language (e.g. word referring to sexual activity) and Luxikon.se includes more multiword expressions. Another difference is that the information in the definitions of the headwords in Luxikon.se is more comprehensive, which is probably due to the instructions given to the contributors.The quality of the dictionary articles varies considerably, but the outcome of non-lexicographers work gives us new perspectives on traditional lexicographic solutions in terms of e.g. lemma selection.The study also shows that user-generated dictionaries gives access to words and multiword expressions that for various reasons are not included in traditional dictionaries. The advantages of having people of different backgrounds and skills working with word collections are obvious and their work should be considered an important contribution in the field of lexicography.
